    Decent machine, sans high-pitched fans

Solid computer. I picked it up around Black Friday for $949, which was a steal for the specs. Pros: -Decent battery life for a gaming laptop, over 6.5 hours performing light tasks with slightly lowered brightness -Weight: The actual laptop itself is lighter than what's listed, which is the box weight. The laptop itself is around 4.6 pounds. -Design: Sleek and understated. Can easily be used in a school/work setting without drawing much attention -RGB: 4 zone (really like 3 zone + WASD keys) is a nice bonus. Omen updated the software which now adds animated RGB instead of static. -Keyboard: I like the layout. There are dedicated arrow keys. There are also dedicated buttons for Omen Command Center and calculator, if that is important to you. It does not have a numpad, but I did not mind. The power button is next to the delete key, but you have to press and hold it to turn the computer to sleep. It also has a bit more resistance than the other keys, so accidental presses have not been a problem for me. You can enable function lock through the bios. The keys have decent travel, although I wish they were a little more tactile. Cons: -Build quality: Not as sturdy as I would have liked. The lid is a little flimsy. It wobbles while typing and flexed when pushed down on when the laptop is closed. However, I don't see this as a durability issue, just a nuisance. -High pitched fan noise: This is a kicker, otherwise it would have been 5 stars. The fans run slowly at idle, emitting a high pitched noise similar to coil whine. When the fans are running at full blast, it is not as noticeable. However, whenever the fans kick on during light tasks, it is extremely noticeable. I am not sure if this is a defect or if this is the norm among all HP Omens, which is why I am debating exchanging for another one. In the meantime, I will monitor it and see if it decreases over time. Overall, its a well-constructed machine. I just wish there was a way to turn fans completely off when doing light tasks, which would avoid the high pitched noise altogether. I would recommend it for the sale price I bought it for ($949). For $1349 you can definitely find more powerful hardware.

Great laptop with amazing cooling capabilities, but man are the speakers bad. They make a buzzing noise that I could not fix with updating the drivers, so I just unplugged them. I don't need speakers for it anyways. Kind of bulky too, but very happy with performance so far.

Having thoroughly put this machine through it's gaming paces over the last month or so, I feel like I can finally give prospective buyers some realistic expectations for the Omen 15. For those in a hurry: Pros: -144hz screen -Better than average cooling system -Onboard Speakers are pretty serviceable -Keys have good travel and aren't too loud when typing -Non-"gamerish" design means it can blend into an office well -Omen Light Studio can produce some neat RGB effects on the keyboard despite it only being a 4-zone -Decent amount of ports -GTX 1660 Ti is perfectly adequate for playing modern AAA games at decent frame rates -Relatively easy to upgrade RAM and add a second SSD -Fans can be loud, but not deafening Cons: -Screen isn't G-Sync enabled -Plastic lid which rather easily yields to pressure produces some concerning screen flexing -Bloatware -8ms response time on screen can lead to occasional ghosting -So-so battery life UPGRADING: I owned the cheaper configuration of the Omen 15 with 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD for about a month before exchanging it for this model. I picked this up on sale for $950 USD, and I ended up installing an additional 1TB Samsung Evo Plus SSD in the second m.2 slot. For someone who's never upgraded a laptop before, the process was fairly straightforward - the only obstacle was some initial difficulty in prying off the back panel. I felt that 16GB of RAM was just fine for my purposes, but if you want to upgrade, make sure you select 3200MHz RAM that can run in dual channel so the Ryzen 7 CPU can take full advantage of it. THERMALS: This is a bit of a mixed bag. My thermals weren't necessarily bad to begin with, since they were running within the manufacturer's acceptable parameters, but I'm not particularly comfortable with my CPU temp maintaining 80-85°C for long periods of time. My solution was to follow the steps in a Bob of All Trades video on YouTube where he shows how to disable turbo boost on laptops with AMD processors (just search for his review of the Zephyrus G14 if you're interested). After disabling boost (and opting for either no boost or efficient boost), my temps never exceed 65°C, even in the most demanding games like Red Dead Redemption 2. Disabling boost had no perceptible effect on gaming performance, so if you want to lower your temps significantly, I'd definitely recommend it. GAMING PERFORMANCE: I'm able to pull at least 60 FPS in all the latest AAA games with a minimum graphics preset of medium/normal. If you're used to playing on the base X-Box one or PS4, then this will be a marked upgrade for you. In some older games like Dying Light and Batman Arkham Asylum, I'm able to hit 90-110 FPS with all graphics settings maxed out. In Borderlands 3, I average 60-80 FPS on medium/high settings, and GTA V runs at 80 FPS on high settings. Metro Exodus, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Control, and Far Cry 5 all look great and will all run at 60 FPS with some tinkering in the graphics settings. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice runs at a solid 60FPS on ultra. PRODUCTIVITY: When I'm not popping heads in Borderlands 3 or eating random carrots I dug out of the ground in Red Dead Redemption 2, I'm producing music in FL Studio or Reaper, and I'm a college student. The Ryzen 7 4800h is more than capable of keeping up with my CPU-heavy plugins, such as triggering Steven Slate Drums 5 with my Roland TD-17 kit or running my guitar DI through Bias FX 2 with zero latency. Multi-tasking is a cinch on the Omen 15. As I type this, I've got about 27 Chrome tabs open with GTA V paused in the background, and performance remains as smooth as ever. I can't speak to how the Ryzen 7 with the GTX 1660 Ti might handle video editing or 3D rendering, but if you're planning on those types of tasks, you may want to invest in an additional monitor, as the max screen resolution is 1080p. CONCLUSION: This feels like one of the best bang-for-your-buck laptops in this price range, but if you can get it on sale for the price I did (Again, I paid $950 USD), then you should ABSOLUTELY pick it up.

The performance is good. Could run FarCry, Dota and WarZone without any issues in high quality and great FPS. Anyway the hinge looks kind of flimsy the battery life isn't the best. but overall if you take good care of your laptop I think it's a good choice for the price.

great product, really fast and snappy. My biggest issue with it is battery life. Dies pretty quickly especially when not plugged in. Kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop, which is designed for portability.

I bought this laptop with no expectations as this is my first hp product. I should day I'm really impressed. I had read reviews regarding the flex in screen. It's not a problem at all. Actually the screen has enough flex since it's not glass and I'm sure it can handle a lot. Also the softwares are really good. Get everything thing updated from the hp center. Also the battery life is good in battery saving mode. Almost 7 hours for surfing and light gaming. Coming to games: it could handle everything what I could throw it at without flinching. And I do more of photo and video processing and it can handle it very well. It was the best deal with this config during Thanksgiving. Would definitely recommend it below $1000

I've had this laptop for over 6 months and this laptop is amazing. PROS: It runs games smoothly at over 100 frames on all high settings and well over 144 on lower settings. It doesn't usually get super hot even over hours of playing games. It's super easy to navigate and set up and the built in software is the same. The speakers are also nice quality and the camera isn't the worst. CONS: The keyboard feels good but is not durable at all. My r key started breaking within the first couple of months and it actually popped out of the keyboard. Then the x key broke later. I take good care of my stuff and this is not my fault. I used it lightly while playing games like cod and battlefront 2 and the keys just stopped working. Other than that this, the laptop will fit your daily needs and more but you might need to buy a separate keyboard.

So far, so good. It feels very solidly built. Keypress feels good. I like the configurable keyboard backlight, not just the harsh red of some gaming laptops. I haven't done anything super-taxing with it, but it has worked well for the encoding and live-streaming tasks that I have tried so far. I don't love the expandable ethernet port, but I guess that's what you get now that laptops are so thin. Still works so far. This is my first foray into the world of dedicated graphics cards. Some complexity to manage there, in terms of which apps can run on Nvidia and which have to use the integrated graphics. No major issues though, just some learning curve particularly for live-streaming.

I will start this review by saying that this is the first Windows laptop I have purchased for myself since 2002 - I've been using Apple laptops for the past 18 years. However, some of the design software I use requires Windows, and let's face it - running on native hardware versus inside a VMWare virtual machine on a Mac will always give better performance. AND I had the desire to be able to do some casual gaming from my Steam library - games that Apple made unavailable to me with their macOS 10.15 update, which disallows 32-bit programs. So it was time to try something new... I've long been an AMD fan, and spent several months researching laptops with the latest Ryzen 4000 series processors, narrowing it down to an ASUS system and this HP. I am VERY glad I went with the HP. I like the keyboard with the full size cursor keys a LOT. Performance of the 8 core / 16 thread Ryzen 7 4800H processor is second to none, and out performs my desktop Core i7 system. The GPU also is robust, handling 3D modeling and engineering software I've thrown at it with ease, as well as maintaining high frame rates at 1080p in some of my Steam titles such as Skyrim. Things that drove me to choose this system are: 1. Expandable - the RAM is NOT soldered, and you can swap the stock 8GB x 2 for up to 32GB x 2 for a total of 64GB of RAM. There are two M.2 2280 NVME slots, and I added a second Western Digital 1TB SSD to my system already, for data storage. 2. Great performing processor. The Ryzen 7 4800H is in my opinion the best mobile CPU available right now. 3. Good GPU - sure the NVidia GTX 1660 Ti is not the highest end gaming GPU right now, but its plenty powerful for a system with a 1080p display. 4. Decent Battery life. I am getting 5-6 hours of battery for general purpose computing (no gaming). 5. Not too heavy. Sure its 5 pounds, but my Macbook Pro 15" was about 4.5 pounds, and I really don't feel much difference. 6. NOT a 4K monitor. While my Macbook Pro and my iMac 27 handle 4K and 5K extremely well, Windows does not seem to do well with font scaling and app scaling on 4K or 5K displays. I've tried it with my desktop Windows system, and so many apps for Windows just don't handle it well. So for my purposes, I didn't want a 4K high res monitor for a Windows laptop. 7. Good price/performance ratio. You get a lot of bang for the buck, especially if you catch it on sale for a couple hundred off like I did. All in all, I would recommend this system to a friend. All in all I recommend it.

I absolutely love this laptop. Great for any needs, display quality is excellent with a ton of storage space and very quick processing speed. I haven't had any trouble regardless of the game I download (although I do hear that fan working hard sometimes.) I use it for my day-to-day needs as well and it's great (maybe except for the lack of the number pad.) The design and look of the laptop is really sleek and attractive, battery life is good, and I would definitely buy this laptop again given the choice. 5/5 for me
