Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the powerful performance and good build quality of the 15.6" Gaming Laptop, along with its attractive price and customizable RAM. However, some users mention that the fan noise can be noticeable under load and that battery life could be improved. The keyboard's RGB backlighting is also frequently praised.

An excellent laptop, especially for the price.

This thing rocks! I use it for productivity work, and I couldn't have asked for a better laptop for the price. The 1660TI and AMD processor pack enough horsepower under the hood to make rendering video a breeze. The screen isn't the brightest, but its not dim by any means, and has good color accuracy which is most important. I went ahead and purchased a second M.2 SSD to expand the storage, and will eventually upgrade the RAM to 16gb as well. The build quality is excellent for the price, and feels premium. Very happy with my purchase!

Well I actually returned this laptop and got another gaming laptop powered by an intel CPU. But I ended up returning it as well and yes I went back to this. First thing i love about this laptop is that it doesn't look like a gaming laptop, second this particular AMD ryzen 7 runs pretty cool. In comparison to the other laptop when downloading a game from steam this laptop stays at 40-41 C while the other laptop went from 40 - 65 C in the blink of an eye.... Let's not even talk about gaming... let's just say the other laptop can fry an egg. Since It hasn't been a month since i've owned this thing but I can say that gaming is a great experience.... the temp while under load floats around 80-82 C and the 144hz it's just smooth as butter. The only downside is the flex of the screen. But it's still a solid build and I doubt this will be a problem in the future unless you don't take care of your laptop. One more thing I would advise to upgrade the ram to at least 16 GB your future self will thank you later.

Omen laptops guaranteed 2 fail at 2 years

I work for a large IT company as a level 3 help desk, so I am routinely fixing laptops. Over the last few years I've fixed several omens as personal favors, I also purchased my own in 2017. in that time I've seen a consistent issue at 2 years the machine fall apart. Lots of issues suddenly appear. Bios updates failing is common, GPUs no longer functions with the motherboard. By far my least favorite and the most common is static. Every one of these machines has had some type of static issue most likely caused by the overuse of unnecessary pieces of plastic and metal in the laptop or possibly bad wiring. Regardless of the cause I've seen brand new batteries permanently discharged in weeks, fans need to be replaced because the components are fried and for nearly all the problems related to the static the only solution you find on HPs website is remove the battery which of course immediately breaks your warranty. My omen which I am thankfully able to soon replace is so bad I've replaced the battery 4 times since january even touching its keyboard will cause the system to shut down. imagine that a laptop that you cant use in a lap because doing so would immediately short the system drain the battery permanently. And dont get me started on trying to find an HP approved battery that's a whole other mess. As far as how it works, the best newest game I could get to run decent on a 2018 model was a game from 2015. I dont expect much out of a laptop but dont call yourself a gaming laptop if you use your entire processor to run ticket to ride and you still have issues. I'd mention something about the lighted keyboard but that stopped working by the 3 rd week I owned it. wifes great compared to two cans on a string. compared to a 2015 business laptop from lenovo it stinks. graphics when it works are pretty good. Did I mention the touchpad broke by about the 8th week? I dont use the touchpad but it should always work. My favorite parts right now dust gets stuck in the fan vents because of poor build choices the output line for the headset jack sometimes works sometimes doesnt. using blue tooth headset almost always switches to jack midway through zoom meetings, oh and the final cherry? the web cam that I didnt have to test until March, about a week after my warranty ended, turns out never worked. not sure why but I have yet to get the laptop to acknowledge the web cams existence. I'm pretty sure there is a wiring issue there My advice take two rocks smash them into your head and look at the pretty birdies before you by an omen.

Finally a good gaming laptop in the 1K price range

Overall this is an excellent laptop. I us it for photo editing and casual gaming. I tried few games on high settings it ran everything perfectly fine. I can also use Photoshop and Luminar 4 with no issues and I don't have to wait long for edits to show. with Luminar its still not 100% seamless but its lightyears better than my old machine that had a corei7 and with a Nvidia 930M graphics card. Although the 8GB of memory is cutting it close for this application. I had photoshop, 1 tab of chrome, and steam open at once and it was up to 7.2GB being used. So if you use photo or video editing software then I would consider adding more RAM with this machine. What I like about it: -Easy to work on/customize memory and drive (8 screws and the entire bottom shell comes off and you have full access to hardware) -better than average cooling system for a laptop -no bloatware pre-installed -2 internal NVMe slots (allows for later expansion of storage space without removing original boot drive) -OMEN software allows me to monitor CPU and GPU temperature -looking past all the specs, this thing just runs everything fast. Which is more than I can say for my past "gaming laptops" that may have been spec'd out to game but they were still unusable with certain titles. What I don't like -nothing. I love this computer, and I use it in place of a desktop due to space and this is the first laptop I have owned that does everything that I want without major performance issues. (Never thought I would say that about an HP product, but man have they come a long way in the past decade. I hope they keep up the good work) I think at the normal price I would spring for the 16GB/1TB version. But right now at least with the sale, there is a $300 difference then its worth getting this, even if you have to spend another $100 to upgrade the ram and the drive space, you are still coming out ahead. (I did upgrade the ram to 16GB for photo editing, after trying it with 8 for a few days) I have had this laptop for just over a week now. I will update if anything bad happens.

    Not a "Fan"

I really wanted to love this laptop! The reviews were great, it was super fast, and the backlit keyboard looked very cool. Unfortunately, the first Omen I bought made a high-pitched sound every time the fans kicked on low. The fan sound didn't bother me, but the high-pitched sound was almost unbearable. I did some research and it seemed like a common problem associated with the fans. I returned my first Omen and exchanged it for another of the same model. I brought home my second Omen, set it up, and then the fans kicked on. This time there was no high-pitched sound. Great! But, then the fans started making a totally different sound than the first Omen. Instead of a steady fan noise like the first one, it made a pulsating whirring sound. I tried to use the laptop for a while but I just couldn't get used to that sound, so I ended up returning the second Omen. I would've loved this laptop if it weren't for these issues with the fans, but if the noise doesn't bother you, this would be a great gaming laptop!

Good laptop, but design compromises are apparent

Pros: This model and the intel models have great cooling solutions. The components are solid and great for gaming. Cons: The keyboard and trackpad are poor, and I had keyboard ghosting issues (key presses not detected when gaming and pressing multiple keys). The monitor panel has a lot of flexibility which does not bode well for the lifespan of the monitor. When closed, the panel does not sit on the keyboard. It leaves a gap between the keyboard and the monitor which, combined with the flexibility, makes it worrisome to put in a backpack for travel.
