Excellent machine for an amazing price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought it recently but have already put it to the test. The computer starts up in like 4 seconds, love the light up keyboard, touch pad works great. Being an architecture student I mostly use it for Adobe, CAD and other rendering programs. I installed Lumion (a program my older computer wouldn't even run because of the graphics card) and it runs super smoothly and it comes out with amazing graphics, it doesn't lagg even when I put it to the highest quality possible. The combination of the graphics card, ramm, SSD disk and i7 processor works perfectly. Overall it's a great machine for an affordable price compared to other similar computers.

Portable Powerhouse!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was originally looking at the 17" model due to the longer battery life and additional 4GB ram, but decided that it was just too big. Upon opening the box, the packaging was very basic. There is a paper quick start sheet on top, a foam tray, and the laptop wrapped in a plastic bag. The power brick is housed in a cardboard spacer/divider. There's no paperwork, etc. Very basic packing. The first boot up was a little sluggish, which is to be expected with Windows configuring everything... no big deal. Subsequent reboots are insanely fast. From power on to my login screen is just under 4 seconds--that's thanks to the 128GB SDD installed. (The 17" has a 1TB SHD which is conventional hard drive with an 8GB NAND drive built in; though the hard drive used in the 17" is 5400 rpm, rather than the 7200 rpm on the 15" unit, if I'm not mistaken?) I loaded up WoW and there's absolutely no lag time, whatsoever. I'm planning on using this more for work and occasional gaming. So far, I'm very impressed. The keyboard is very responsive. Having a full num pad is a bonus! The touch pad is very responsive as well and responds to gestures such as double finger scrolling, etc. I'm usually not a fan of touch pads, but this one is nice! The screen is bright and has very good visibility from different angles as well. The anti glare coating is a nice touch as well. I wish it had a touch screen though--there was some confusion early on in the listings. The downfalls on this machine is that HP has essentially made the unit disposable. The memory and battery are not accessible by the customer, so it is not possible to upgrade, unfortunately. For this reason, I was considering giving 4 stars. Overall, very happy with the unit so far.

I am greatly happy with this laptop.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very fast booting time <10 seconds. Plenty of fast ram memory. Great data storage capability 1TB. Fast video with bright display. Worked fine without a glitch. The battery power last hours long event when using video chat mode. Very light weight <5 pounds. The PC connected by itself to existing network very well. The Bluetooth speakers connected with out issue. I would bye this PC again and I am re-commanding it to anyone else. The keyboard is dark but it has back light function with F5 Key.

Gaming laptop with good value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this Christmas gift for my high school-aged nephew who is a MMO and turn-based strategy game player and also does a lot of typing for school and fictional story writing. He's has nursed a mid-range HP Envy through 4 very tough years of taking it EVERYWHERE and a much younger little sister in the house (looks like casualty of World War 3). He seems to really like this Omen. Touch screen or convertible didn't appeal to him much as he already has a tablet he enjoys so we saved some money by not making that a must-have feature. He also didn't see much need for an SSD drive but I knew how much I have enjoyed my SSD over the last 2 years. Instant-on from sleep and just a few seconds for a total reboot or startup is a VERY nice feature along with lightning fast operating system responses. He's now hooked and wonders how he ever dealt with HDD boot times. The backlit keyboard however WAS a must for night gaming or typing and the red keys help with visibility. The GTX 960 graphics card isn't a monster but more than enough for his type of gaming. Those looking to run very high/ultra detail graphic settings AND 60+ frames per second on the latest first person shooters and driving sims should probably dig a little deeper into their pockets for a more expensive rig with a beefier GPU card. But if you're looking for a nice price/performance balance, this computer is a great value with its typical HP build quality and support.

Surprisingly Good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will start by saying I work in the computer industry for a living. I am NOT a gamer. I usually only use HP's at work. They make great servers but I have never been a fan of home laptop/desktop from HP. Being in the industry I get asked for information on systems all the time and I always recommend and send them towards Dell. Any way I have been looking for a system to do video/photo editing at home and could not make a decision on what to get and also wanted to keep my costs down. I happened to be at Best Buy and saw this HP Omen. As I said I usually stay away from HP but it really had everything I wanted inside and the price was fantastic! so i figured what the heck I have 15 days to decide if I like it or not so I purchased it. I have been using it about a week now and all I can say is WOW gives me a whole new perspective and outlook for HP home products. I have not had one moment that I thought yeah that's the HP I expected:) I have been able to edit 4K 4.5 Gig files from my GoPro without the slightest hesitation or glitch. So far I have to give this an outstanding rating. Only wish it would have come with 16Gb Ram but that is easily fixable!

Excellent for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this computer for school. I do a lot of programming and 3D modeling for school. This allows me to do that no problem. The touch pad is little flimsy, just use a wireless mouse or wired one. Problem solved. It runs quiet and keeps cool as well.

Great machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first laptop that I have purchased for myself. My wife and kids have had a few different ones, but I'm normally a Pro Desktop user. I bought this for my new job and the gaming capabilities that it has. I cant run WoW in Ultra mode, but it does very well on high settings. would have rated it 5 stars but I cant see any way to hook it up to a docking station. But other than that, it's darn near perfect for me.

Great Computer for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have not had the Omen for to long but I have to say I have found some great things and some not so great things. First of all, for the price the Omen boots up really quick we are talking in under 10 seconds easily. Secondly, it plays all my games well (granted its usually on mid to low quality. But I knew that was the case when I was buying it.) Now for the not so great part. I have noticed while I am playing the W key seems to get stuck. My character will continue to move even after I lift off the key. Not very awesome. The worst part of this computer is the sharpness of the bottom edge of the key board. When you're laying your wrist down on it while playing games it chaffs away at your skin causing some rather painful sores.

Excellent Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop has great specs and I haven't had any issues so far. I love the speed, and the resolution is spectacular! Another excellent laptop from HP, this is my second after having a Pavilion for 3 years. HP keeps putting out great, top-of-the-line equipment!

Nicer than expected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picked this up for the wife. She mostly uses it for college and light gaming. So far she has no complaints. She mostly plays older games such as Star Craft, this laptop has no problems running it and the display is beautiful. The build feels pretty solid and the keyboard is pretty nice for how thin it is. We feel it is a nice laptop that will be around for a while.

Excellent laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop for the intention of gaming, browsing, and school work. It excels in all 3 facets and nobody should be disappointed. Only complaint I have is I'm not the biggest fan of the mousepad, but the pros heavily outweigh that one small con.

Excellent Purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been a Mac person for quite some time now and only decided to go with a Windows unit after 10 came out. I am happy to see that Microsoft finally put some real skin in the game. To say that I am pleased with this unit would be an understatement. The display is really good and the speed is more than sufficient. An aluminum body would be an improvement, but if you are desperate for that feature, go with the Envy.

Buyer beware
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop with the free web root anti virus bout 2 weeks ago. I thought it was great and worked awesome for gaming at first since the game I play is online but the anti virus disk is useless and if you want to download a game on a disk goodluck. What kind of 1029$ "gaming" laptop doesn't come with a disk drive oh that's right this one! Heck my cousins 300$ walmart laptop has a fricken disk drive. Very un happy I wasted my money and now have to buy a usb disk drive.
