Out of the box, the unit impresses with its sleek design and an adjustable stand that exudes durability and solidity. The available 280Hz and 1ms response time make my movement look like a pro with smooth transitions that provide a buttery smooth competitive advantage. The inclusion of the G-Sync (it has G-Sync or for the AMD FreeSync) ensures that I am gliding without screen tearing or stuttering. The QHD resolution is something they write poems & songs about. From streaming to just online browsing, the look is sharp, vibrant, and clear. On top of that, the VESA DisplayHDR 400 makes colors, shadows, and highlights pop in a way that feels more cinematic, and the IPS Black panel keeps everything consistent across wide viewing angles. Hence, the picture always looks good, no matter where I’m sitting. It’s also surprisingly versatile. The built-in dual speakers are clear enough for casual use like review text, but I would add a headset or peripheral speakers to complement the unit. The OMEN Light Studio lets you customize lighting effects for your setup, and there are plenty of ports to swap between console and PC easily. Little touches, such as the integrated cable management, keeping the desk looking clean instead of cluttered, and the adjustable height, which, to me, should be mandatory for all monitors as a tall guy myself. I’ve been using the HP Omen 27 Gaming monitor with IPS, QHD resolution, and 280Hz max refresh for the past week, mostly on a desktop with a 4080, swapping between Apex, Forza Horizon, and a bit of Baldur’s Gate 3. I was coming from an older 144Hz 1080p monitor, so I figured this was a good base to check out differences. I wasn’t sure if I’d actually notice the bump to 280Hz, but turns out yeah, you can feel it, especially once you’re in that 180+ fps range and above. If you’re stuck at 100 to 120 fps, maybe not so much. But once you’ve got a game that can push it, the smoother motion is noticeable and kind of addicting. Unboxing, you get a generic looking monitor. Like anything gaming, it has RGB lights, though hidden on the back, but otherwise nothing striking. On my desk with my other monitors, there was nothing special you’d notice from the monitor itself. One thing to note, it looks pretty flush, but if like me, you prefer your monitors on an arm, you can actually remove the mount and access a VESA mounting hole behind the attached hinge that lets you rotate/tilt the monitor on its stand. There’s a plastic panel that passes over the hinge and covers up the screw holes. I’ve had similar monitors and didn’t realize there was a way until now. Swapping to my monitor arm reveals there’s a lot of empty space with the monitor housing which makes me wonder if that’s for passive cooling. Setup was easy. Plugged it in over DisplayPort, turned on the PC, and it just came up running at full resolution and refresh. Windows saw it fine. Didn’t touch the Omen software, though I saw it was available. I usually just adjust monitor stuff through the buttons on the back, which are kind of annoying. You get used to them but they’re not super intuitive. Took a few tries to find brightness and contrast, and it doesn’t help that the on-screen menu feels just a little bit slow to respond. Not terrible, just not snappy. Out of the box color was okay. A little cool compared to my other monitors right next to it. I nudged the color temp slightly warmer and turned the brightness down since it was set way too high for my room. After that, it looked really solid. Nothing jaw-dropping, but for what I do development work, general surfing / web productivity (online office apps), and some occasional gaming and media, it worked. Text looks super clean, which is what I wanted from QHD at 27 inches. No scaling needed, and it’s a nice middle ground where everything just looks a little sharper. Gaming is where this thing makes sense. I played a few rounds of Apex at around 200 fps and it just felt cleaner than my old 144Hz panel. Motion was smooth and I could track targets better in my peripheral vision. Not a massive jump, but real enough that I wouldn’t go back. I did notice a little ghosting on default overdrive settings, mostly when panning quickly across dark backgrounds. After switching to the lower overdrive preset, that mostly went away. So yeah, something to tweak depending on what you’re playing. HDR is technically here but I wouldn’t really count it. It’s DisplayHDR 400, which basically means it can get bright enough to check the HDR box but doesn’t really give you the color pop or contrast jump you’d want from actual HDR content. I turned it on in Windows, watched some test clips, and then turned it off again. It wasn’t hurting anything but it also didn’t feel worth keeping on. Blacks get brighter, not darker, and shadow detail isn’t really any better. The stand is fine. It adjusts easily and doesn’t wobble. Ports are where you’d expect them. Two HDMI, one DisplayPort, some USB ports. I didn’t try HDMI but apparently you don’t get the full 280Hz there, which is fine since I’m only using DisplayPort anyway. I did run it through a USB hub at one point and everything still worked, though I didn’t test peripherals much since I’ve already got a keyboard/mouse setup I like. One thing I liked more than I expected was the anti-glare coating. It’s not too aggressive and cuts reflections just enough without making everything look dull or fuzzy. I haven’t noticed any weird flickering, power issues, or dead pixels. Wakes up reliably from sleep and hasn’t reset any of my settings, which sounds like a low bar, but with some monitors it’s not guaranteed. Would I recommend it? Yes, I would. It is a nice step up if you’re coming from a lower refresh or 1080p screen. QHD at 27" feels like a good combo for a single monitor for someone more gaming focused, you get sharpness and performance, and the 240Hz panel has enough motion clarity to make the jump worth it, at least if your GPU can keep up. You’re not getting deep blacks or true HDR, but everything else is solid. For my personal setup, where I’m more on the engineering development and web productivity, I didn’t see much of a change in my day to day. The initial screen quality seemed to have a slight bump, but I stopped noticing that as the week went by so it could have been the newness.

The features are what you would expect from a higher end gaming monitor, but the high price may deter you from buying one given it’s getting close to OLED prices. The monitor looks nice and has a subtle light in the back. There’s a DP, 2x HDMI, USB B out, and an audio out. The stand doesn’t take up that much space, and it can rotate vertically, but doesn’t rotate horizontally. The viewing angle is fine up to about 30 degrees before the color starts to shift. The cable management is minimal. Just a clip in the middle of the stand, and you will see cables hanging off the back. The built in USB hub is great for controllers and storage devices, reducing cable clutter around the PC. At this price, I would rather it had a USB C connection. It does have speakers, but they’re not great, sounding hollow and small. Though having speakers rather than none is a plus. The menu is operated by the radial cursor on the back, a bit out of reach. Within it, you can adjust built in gaming features like crosshair, timers, and response time. You can also adjust the light on the back. You can also have it where the audio is coming from the USB cable rather than the video signal, so you are able to have separate sources from video input. The display has deeper blacks compared to my other gaming monitor, and I saw no signs of edge bleeding. Blacks and whites are uniform. The blooming is minimal and not really noticeable during typical use. SDR looks great. HDR, at 400 nits brightness, is enough to give a punch to the lightning effects, but still not a drastic difference. The refresh rate is super smooth. I didn’t have that many games that can run 1440p at 280fps, but when it does, it was a nice gaming experience. I didn’t notice any ghosting and overall everything looked great. The price is the biggest drawback. At full price, this monitor is approaching the price of an OLED. I don’t have much to complain about the display itself, but it’s something to consider.

Starting out of the box, this monitor is easy to assemble with the arm snapping onto the screen and the base plate having a toggle screw to attach it to the arm. No tools required. The monitor can be tilted, height adjusted and also rotated to portrait type orientation. The specs are all high end, although I do have a caveat. The 240Hz refresh rate is only by DisplayPort connection. If you connect to your desktop/laptop by HDMI the refresh rate is limited to 144Hz. The 1ms response time and G-Sync/FreeSync Premium ensures you will get smooth gameplay at high frame rates with either an Nvidia GeForce or AMD Radeon GPU. My favorite game, War Thunder, plays flawlessly on this monitor with my Nvidia GeForce GPU powered laptop. The panel/display type is IPS/LCD, which is ideal for gaming. The screen resolution is QHD, 2560 x 1440, giving it excellent clarity, and the colors are rich and bright. The monitor is also HDR capable but turning it on I could not see any difference in depth and richness of color no matter the color setting (Native, Standard, RTS/RPG, etc.) on the monitor. Researching this I learned that only on OLED monitors do you really get the benefit of HDR. So don't choose this monitor based on its HDR capability. The monitor has an RGB square (standing on one corner) light ring surrounding the back panel mount. It can be somewhat customized with the panel toggle control but to really get the most out of it download the Omen Gaming Hub to get the Omen Light Studio. The Omen Light Studio enables layering of lighting effects along with enabling those same effects on some compatible devices, like my Razer Deathadder V2 mouse. The effects are really cool! Ports include 1 x DisplayPort 1.4, 2 x HDMI 2.0 and a USB hub with 2 x USB-A 3.0 and 1 x USB-B for power. A DisplayPort Cable and USB Type A to B cable are included with the monitor. Dual 3-watt speakers provide the audio. The sound is typical of monitor speakers, okay for watching videos but for gaming, music, or action movies, you'll want to use headphones or an external speaker system. Overall, this is an excellent gaming monitor, (noting that refresh rate is limited to 144HZ with an HDMI connection) that gives smooth gameplay with vivid color and excellent clarity.

I've been a Samsung gaming monitor user for a bit but I got a chance to try out this HP Omen monitor and have been quite impressed so far. From the get go, it has the usual ports and such you'll find on any monitor out there. This does have 2 HDMI slots as well as a DisplayPort 1.4 port. The speakers on this are OK I'd say. I normally play with a headset so I generally don't use, or care, about any built-in speakers on monitors. That said, they provide decent enough sound if that's what yo8're using during gameplay. Screen is bright and offers pretty good color. The 280Hz refresh rate is nice. It's faster than my current Samsung Odyssey at 240Hz. Not noticeably different but still plenty fast enough for my system. Comes with HDMI, DisplayPort and USB cables out of the box so you're ready to plug in and get gaming. The RGB on the back is a nice touch too although I'm unable to see it the way my desk is currently setup. Overall, very nice primary monitor for gaming. Only con is that there is no side to side adjustment on this monitor; only up and down. Might be a big deal for you or not. Since I usually mount my monitors to arms on my desk, this isn't an issue for me.

I was in the market for another gaming monitor with a high refresh rate that looks great and would not break the bank, and the HP OMEN 27" IPS QHD 280Hz panel was the perfect fit. There are other monitors that offer higher peak brightness, better color, and more features, but you will pay a premium for those. This HP OMEN hits the right price point with the features that matter most. Yes, the screen uses IPS technology. When shopping for monitors in this price range, you cannot expect to check every box on your wish list. With that in mind, this display delivers a fast panel (280Hz and 1ms MPRT) with excellent resolution and wide viewing angles. In my opinion, 2K resolution is the minimum for 27-inch displays, and the HP OMEN delivers. At 2560 x 1440, individual pixels are invisible at a normal viewing distance and text remains sharp. The color accuracy is more than good enough for gaming with some tweaking. To be fair, there are very few monitors I have owned where I was happy with the picture right out of the box. I am particular, especially with another monitor on my desk, so I will dive into the custom settings and adjust the color profile until it nearly matches perfectly. My only complaint is the 400 nit peak brightness. The display technically supports HDR, but you should not expect a dramatic improvement. Actually, I do have another complaint, and that is the grey uniformity. Being an IPS panel, this along with the less-than-perfect blacks from light bleed is just a trade-off of the technology. The stand is a highlight, and I appreciate the ability to rotate the screen into portrait orientation without buying an additional mount. I do not use this feature often, but it is nice to have. The stand is also solid and does not suffer from excessive wobble when you bump your desk. This OMEN provides all the connections you need. I use DisplayPort for my PC and have my PlayStation 5 connected to one of the two HDMI ports. When you see it in person and consider the price compared to the features, it is an excellent monitor. If you are coming in with OLED expectations, you will likely be disappointed. At its core, this is a midlevel gaming monitor. The reality is most people will not have the hardware to fully take advantage of the refresh rate this panel offers. I am very happy with this HP OMEN and believe most people would be too.

The Omen 27-inch IPS 280Hz Monitor was shipped in its original box. It was well packaged as per the Omen standard. This is a 2K 2560 by 1440 resolution monitor. The monitor has 2 internal speakers. These speakers are on the low end and sound tinny. When the monitor was plugged into the gaming computer, the better speakers were turned off and the Omen speakers took over. To get the best out of this monitor I would suggest you hook up the display using the Data Port connection. If you don’t have a Data Port connection on your computer, I would recommend the use of an HDMI cable. Utilizing the Data Port connection allows for use of the maximum refresh rate. The monitor has on the back the following ports. 1 Display Port 2 HDMI 2 USB Type A 1 USB Type B Overall, for an IPS monitor this is a good starting point. The Omen Application for the Microsoft Store allows you to adjust the monitor to your liking. You can also download various games from within the application. I am completely happy with this monitor.

Im someone who is not ready to switch to OLED and i dont think mini LED IPS monitors are there yet either. I had some budget 1440p LG 144hz monitors ans they were good enough. But man these are just so vastly superior to those. Maybe its that IPS Black 2000:1 contrast vs the standard 1000:1 (my lg never really did above 800 though) but the darks are definitely darker and the display is brighter and more colorful. Dead space remake, space marine 2, cp2077, helldivers 2, darktide all looked amazing on this screen. Honestly if you arent sold on mini LED or OLED. This is probably the best monitor to get today to avoid those. Hopefully RTINGS.com does a full review
