Customers are saying

Customers are pleased with the sound quality, cooling features, and comfort of the OMEN Mindframe headset. Many also appreciate the bass response and the snug fit. However, some users find the headset to be heavy, and there have been some reports of microphone issues. Overall, the positive feedback on audio quality and comfort outweighs the negative comments regarding weight and microphone performance.

    Truly the coolest headset ever

Needed a new headset as my old one broke and I have recently started playing online more. I just got these and they have great sound, good style, cool lighting effects, and they are very comfortable. But I was not expecting the Frost Cap cooling to work so well. Shortly after putting them on my ears got cold and i had to go into the Omen Command Center to turn it down. After finding the best setting for me and using them for an hour my ears and the area covered by the ear cups were still cool.

This was part of a Gaming package with 3 of HP's hardware devices designed for PC gaming: HP- Pavilion Gaming Desktop, model 690-0024 HP - 25x LED FHD monitor, model HP 25x and HP- OMEN - Mindframe 7.1 gaming headset , model 3XT27AA#ABL When combined together these three devices really take advantage of each others strengths. It's always better and easier to use devices that compliment each other, as opposed to fighting with incompatibilities. Plus all three of these devices come with green LED accent lighting that completes the overall look of this bundle. This headset is one of the most comfortable pairs I have ever used. The best feature is it's COOLING technology, to make wearing headphones for prolonged time, way more tolerable. The feature is called "Frostcap" : Thermoelectric coolers inside the earcups cool the aluminum speaker grille plates near the ears, which then transfers heat from inside the acoustic chambers to the outside The design of this pair of headphones is really top notch. The headband is a self adjusting strap that is both comfortable, and looks very durable. Actually everything about this pair looks like it was built to last. The ear cups are made from a soft fabric, instead of that shiny vinyl like material most ear cups are covered in. I actually don't like the vinyl material because, it ends up flaking off, and getting stuck in your hair or ears, after about a year. So, I am very excited to see how much longer these cloth cups will last. The volume dial is conveniently located under the right ear cup, for quick access to volume adjustments, and the mic can be simply turned on or off, just be lifting or lowering the mic lever. ( an audible tone can be heard to confirm the switch in the mic position ) There is an app, that can be downloaded to your PC (The Omen Command Center) to incorporate more control over the headset. Including changing the lighting accents on the outside of the ear cups with animated effects and 16.8 million color options. You can even adjust the Frostcap cooling intensity through the app. Probably the only thing I could see missing on this headset is a chat vs game, mixing capability. To adjust the sound levels of the chat over the sounds of the game, or vice versa. I actually find this feature helpful, as sometimes people in chat lobbies are very loud, while others are slightly lower in volume. Although this is a nice feature, I do not consider it that important, that it be included on the headset, as most games have this as an option in the game settings. The USB cable is of moderate length, and a nice braided material that is usually more flexible and durable than the plastic alternative. The cord itself is about 6.5ft long, but if you need a longer connection, USB extension cables are pretty easy to acquire in various lengths. The 7.1 virtual surround sound, is way more important, especially if you are playing online competitive games. The directional sound is key in staying alive, it helps so much in locating players trying to attack you. Plus sometimes, it's just crazy how much audio game developers pack into a game. A lot of things you can't hear just by using tv/external speakers. I was in awe the first time I put on a pair of headphones like these, and heard flies buzzing around my character, or the faint music playing from an abandoned car on the side of a road. The ambient sounds are so realistic with this pair of headphones, that you might find yourself actually looking for a fly swatter. The volume this headset can put out, is ear shattering. I have not moved the slider up past 30%, and even that is sometimes too intense for me.This set can really pound out the sounds, and yet everything still sounds clear and realistic! Awesome sound quality!

I like this headset. It is really comfortable. I can wear it for hours and not have my ears sweat. The sound is good and people can hear me fine on the other end.

Best Gaming Headset for Extended Gaming

I like over-ear gaming headsets, I find the sound quality better for extended gameplay. But I find my ears start to sweat and I get uncomfortable. So was super excited to get the HP Mindframe because it promises "earcup cooling technology". The HP Mindframe boasts "thermoelectric" features which draw heat away. Yes, it works and after a 2 hour session on Destiny 2, I have no complaints about sweaty ears (FYI, you can adjust the cooling using the Mindframe app you run on Win10, the same app can also be used to play with the Mindframe's lighting). On the flipside, the Mindframe connects vis USB only. This isn't an issue for me, as I am mostly a PC gamer these days. But if you want to dual-use this on a console it's not the headset for you. Build quality is great and it doesn't feel cheap. The 7.1 audio is something I am on undecided on. I can't fault the audio quality but I have never used other 7.1 headsets before. It makes for an immersive experience and in a FPS, it definitely adds a sense of realism and makes you appreciate the audio engineering in a game. Overall, super happy and impressed with what HP have done.

There are a lot of things I really like about this headset. The self adjusting headband gives the perfect fit. The volume control on the ear cup is easy to feel and adjust. The mic works very well, and the tilt up to mute is brilliant. My favorite part, the super comfortable ear cups have air conditioning for your ears. Over the ear headsets tend to make your ears get hot. The Mindframe's will keep them cool as long as you want to play. On top of all that, they have a very good sound for a gaming headset. The advertised 7.1 virtual surround is a bit misleading. It uses Windows Sonic for Headphones. So technically, any set of headphones can be "7.1 virtual surround". Also the HP software is somewhat limited for customizing the RGB lights.

    Not cool enough

I bought this headset because my ears get hot after wearing a headset for a bit so I thought this would be the perfect solution. There is cooling going on inside the ear cups, but I could not feel the cooling unless I squeezed them against my head. The sound and mic quality I found to be good, but this headset is heavy so I could not wear it for a long time. It was worth trying it out for $49.99

I've used many headsets and headphones over the years, these are probably on the bottom end of those that I'd recommend. The Audio quality on them is ok. There is 7.1 Virtual Surround, but it's always on, you cannot turn it off at all. There's not much in the way of Audio Controls whatsoever. There's no adjustment of Sidetone so you can't hear yourself. There's one control on the headset themselves and that the volume. I do like the feel of it though as it's metal and infinitely moves. The headset has a lot weight to it. this is good and bad though. The bulk of the weight likely comes from the FrostCap tech and the Peltier cooler's in the Ear Cups themselves. There's no adjustment to be had with the headset either. There's a band that flexes in-between your noggin and the assembly of the headset itself. Because there's not adjusting to be had they were quite uncomfortable for me. The Cooling aspect does feel gimmicky. It's very weird to have cold air on your ears while listening to things. The outside of the headset's ear cups gets quite warm as the heat from the unit is dissipated into the aluminum of the Ear Cups. It's not hot, but it is warm to the touch. It could potentially become a problem down the line. I'm not really sure of the dependability and life of them. There's a warranty on them at least for a year so if you have any issues I'm sure there won't be a problem. If you've got a smaller head, you'll probably have an easier time with them. I think if the cost involved in the tech would have been put more towards the drivers in the headset you could potentially have a winner on your hands. Also being able to adjust the amount of cooling would be great. Perhaps in a following iteration we can see an improvement.

    Sound Drop Issues

I have had this headset for about 10 months now, bought it with my gaming laptop. It worked great for a while but in the last few months when I am playing games like League of Legends and FFXIV along with using Discord to talk to friends, the sound will zap out for 1 second and come back only with the game sound (Discord sound is nowhere to be found). You would think it was a driver issue but unfortunately, I tried one of my old school headsets that have always been advertised with skype from like 7 years and I don't experience that issue. I will have to try a new pair but if the 2nd pair fails, then I am through with this brand.
