I got a chance to review the HP OmniDesk Desktop (Gray Wood Edition) as a family PC and light workstation, and it’s been a pleasant surprise in both style and substance. Right out of the box, this desktop doesn’t look like your typical PC tower – the front panel has a modern gray wood-inspired finish that really stands out. It’s a subtle gray woodgrain pattern on a trim that frames the front, giving the PC a bit of personality without being loud. I’ve got it sitting in my living room, and it actually complements the furniture – a nice change from plain black boxes. HP also mentions they use recycled metals and plastics in the build, which I appreciate as an eco-conscious touch. The build quality feels solid; the chassis is Jack Black (HP’s name for the black-colored case) with that gray wood front trim, and it’s both sleek and understated. For a pre-built machine at this price, the design and finish get a thumbs up from me. Several friends who saw it even remarked that it looks “classy” for a PC. It’s definitely a system you don’t mind having on top of the desk, where it’s visible. Performance-wise, the OmniDesk holds its own for a wide range of tasks. It’s powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 8000-series processor (8700G in my unit, 8 cores/16 threads), paired with 16GB of the latest DDR5 memory. In everyday use, this combo absolutely flies – heavy web browsing, Office apps, photo editing, and 4K video streaming all happen without a hiccup. I typically have dozens of Chrome tabs, Spotify streaming, and Photoshop running together, and I haven’t experienced slowdowns or high fan noise. In fact, the system is remarkably quiet; even under moderate load the fans are whisper-quiet, thanks to the efficient CPU design (AMD optimized these chips for cool and quiet operation). The 1TB SSD (a PCIe Gen4 NVMe) also contributes to the snappy feel – Windows 11 boots quickly and programs launch in a snap. For those curious about numbers: I ran a quick CrystalDisk test on the SSD and saw typical Gen4 speeds (~3.5 GB/s), so no complaints there. 16GB RAM is enough for multitasking right now, and since it’s DDR5 it offers great bandwidth. The only time I felt the strain was when I tried some heavier video rendering and had multiple VMs open – in those cases, more RAM would help. Fortunately, the OmniDesk is upgradeable: there are accessible DIMM slots (supports up to 32GB) and an extra M.2 slot for adding another SSD, which gives some peace of mind for future upgrades. Graphics capabilities depend on the configuration. My particular model came with integrated AMD Radeon graphics (Radeon 780M) on the Ryzen 7 chip. For an iGPU, it’s actually quite impressive – it handles everyday visuals and media flawlessly. I connected dual monitors (one via HDMI, one via DisplayPort) and had zero issues driving a 4K screen alongside a 1080p screen. Casual gaming is doable: I tested Rocket League and Minecraft at 1080p, and the Radeon 780M ran them smoothly at medium settings. It struggles with AAA games like Cyberpunk unless you drop to low settings and 720p, but that’s expected for integrated graphics. The nice thing is HP offers an option with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 if you need more GPU muscle (there’s even an open PCIe slot in mine where a GPU could be added later, though the PSU is 280W, so any upgrade needs to be modest). For my use – which is productivity, content consumption, and light gaming – the integrated Radeon is fine. It even accelerates some GPU tasks (I did a bit of Blender viewport work and simple 3D modeling for fun, and it was acceptable). One cool surprise: the machine supports up to four displays connected simultaneously (between the various video outputs and USB-C), which is great for a trading station or a multi-monitor office setup. Most people won’t use four monitors, but the fact it’s possible shows this PC isn’t kidding about being a productivity hub. The connectivity and ports on the OmniDesk are excellent and truly modern. On the front of the tower, I have two USB-C ports (one 5 Gbps and one 10 Gbps), along with a couple of high-speed USB-A ports – super convenient for quick plug-ins of USB drives or charging gadgets. There’s also a headphone/mic jack at the front for easy access. Around the back, HP loaded it with additional USB ports (including USB 2.0 for keyboard/mouse and older peripherals), an Ethernet LAN port for wired networking, and both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 for video output. Wireless connectivity is up-to-date too: Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 are built in, so my internet and wireless peripherals have been fast and stable. I connected a Wi-Fi 6 router and got full throughput on downloads, and Bluetooth headphones pair without issue. Another neat feature – the keyboard that came with the PC has a special Microsoft Copilot key. At first I didn’t know what it was; pressing it brings up Windows 11’s AI Copilot sidebar. It’s actually useful for quick answers or summaries while working, kind of like having a little AI assistant at your beck and call. It’s not something I use constantly, but as an early adopter I find it cool that HP built this “AI key” into the experience, showing they designed this PC with Windows 11’s latest features in mind. Now, let’s talk about user experience and any drawbacks. Setting up the OmniDesk was painless – HP’s out-of-box experience was straightforward, and there wasn’t too much bloatware aside from the usual trial of McAfee and some HP utilities. The included wireless keyboard and mouse are decent (they match the PC and get the job done, though serious typists or gamers will likely upgrade these). The PC runs very quietly during web and office work; under heavy load you can hear a gentle whoosh, but it’s far from distracting. Thermals seem well-managed – the chassis has ventilation on the sides and back, and even after a long session, the top of the case only gets slightly warm. One limitation to be aware of is the power supply: the 280W PSU is efficient and fine for the included hardware, but it’s not intended for high-end GPU upgrades. So, if you plan to turn this into a gaming rig later, you might have to swap the PSU (which may be proprietary, as is common in OEM PCs). For most buyers in this category, that’s not a big deal. Another minor con is that while 16GB RAM is adequate now, heavier users might outgrow it; upgrading is possible but it would’ve been nice to have 32GB in a “Ryzen 7” config out of the box. Lastly, the beautiful front panel doesn’t have any external drive bays (no DVD drive, etc., which is normal these days) – not an issue for me, but worth noting if you’re old-school and still use optical media. On the plus side, that solid front contributes to the clean look and likely helps keep noise down, since there’s no open grille right in front. Overall, I’d rate the HP OmniDesk Desktop as a fantastic all-around PC for home or office use, especially for those who value a mix of performance and aesthetic design. It’s not a hardcore gaming monster, but it doesn’t pretend to be – instead, it excels at everyday productivity, content creation, and entertainment while looking stylish and running quiet. I’ve been using it as a work-from-home station by day (lots of multitasking, video calls, spreadsheets) and a media center by night (streaming movies, light gaming), and it hasn’t let me down. Below is a quick rundown of pros and cons from my experience: Pros: - Strong performance for multitasking and productivity – Ryzen 7 CPU and fast DDR5 RAM make the system very responsive. - Sleek, modern design with gray wood-look front panel (refreshingly different aesthetic) and a compact footprint. - Plenty of modern ports: dual front USB-C, multiple USB-A, HDMI + DisplayPort, etc., plus Wi-Fi 6 and BT 5.4 built in. - Runs cool and whisper-quiet even under load (great for office or bedroom use without fan noise distractions). - Easy setup and decent upgrade paths – RAM and SSD are accessible, and an optional GPU (like an RTX 3050) can be configured or added. Also comes with a matching wireless keyboard/mouse for convenience. Cons: - Not a gaming powerhouse in base form – the integrated Radeon graphics limit high-end gaming; consider the RTX 3050 model if gaming is a priority. - 16GB RAM is fine for now but might be limiting for heavy users; you may need to upgrade to 32GB for memory-intensive tasks. - Power supply (280W) isn’t geared for major upgrades; those wanting to add a high-tier GPU or many drives may find it insufficient without an upgrade. - A bit of pre-installed bloatware (e.g., antivirus trial), though it’s easily cleaned up. - No USB4/Thunderbolt and no optical drive (not expected at this price, but worth noting in case you need those features). Ideal For: This HP OmniDesk is perfect for students, professionals, or families who need a reliable PC with snappy performance for everyday tasks and a touch of style. It’s great as a home office workhorse, a family multimedia station, or a productivity machine for someone who might dabble in light gaming or creative work on the side. The small touches like the Copilot AI key and multiple monitor support make it feel future-proof and versatile. If you want a pre-built desktop that boots fast, handles multi-tasking with ease, and doesn’t look boring, the OmniDesk is a great choice. On the other hand, if you’re a hardcore gamer or want to do heavy 3D rendering, you’d either opt for the discrete GPU version or look at more specialized gaming rigs. For its intended audience, the OmniDesk offers a wonderful balance: plenty of power, modern features, and an attractive design that doesn’t need to be hidden under the desk. I’ve been thoroughly satisfied with it and can confidently recommend it for general-purpose computing needs.

The computer keeps shutting down due to a kernel power issue which I am trying to identify. Every time it happens the computer no longer recognizes a second monitor. In order to get it recognized I have to delete the raedon 780 graphic and then reinstall it. I am not sure if there is aproblem on my end or an issue with the HO omni itself.

This PC is garbage and does not work. The first one I ordered would crash a lot. I was able to exchange it but I am having the same issues with the second one. Now I am out of the tiny 15 day return window and I'm stuck with a lemon. Do not buy if you want a PC that doesn't randomly restart with "Faulty Hardware Corrupt" message every couple hours! Very upset Best Buy will not let me exchange for a different PC.

Only buy if the integrated graphics will suffice. Even though the motherboard has a PCIE slot for a graphics card, the bios won't allow you to install one.

Bought two of these. Took me awhile to get around to hooking them up, didn't notice the 15 day return window which ended yesterday. First one suffers the black screen issue others have reported. Was informed by Best Buy that I had to contact HP since window had closed. Problem is you must register PC first, neither one will register, not by manual entry or auto detect. Now what? Something is up with these computers.

For the price of this computer you would hope that it could at least run Minecraft with some average shaders. However, this device disappointed me at every turn. I have heard jet planes that had a more quite take-off than this computer. We had this device in our home for less than 3 days before we decided to trade it in and spend a few more bucks to get something way better.

It worked for a couple weeks and then started freezing with a black screen, even after resetting the PC. Can't even set it back up now because it goes black and freezes during the setup process. This seems to be a common problem with this model, apparently. I'm very disappointed with HP.

There is an issue with either the video card or the Motherboard but having lots of issues with the screen just going black for a while then comes back. Now I have to shut down one of my employees to take it in to get checked. Loss of production by an employee just because poor quality of a brand new computer.

Best Buy had the brand new PC i bought for3 days. I was told the system would be set up so all i had to do was plug it in. That did not happen. The keyboard, mouse and speakers will not work. I set up my old mouse and it works just fine. Best Buy did not properly set up this PC. I cannot rate the HP system because i can not get it to work. Now i will spend the afternoon looking for the elusive technician..

Had to exchange the cpt because of operating problem. The monitor had to be exchanged because it arrived damaged. Your store would not exchange saying it was beyond warranty time. There was NO Monitor to use with the computer so did not discover its issues until the new monitor was exchanged. The store charged me $50 to buy extended warranty OR No Exchange would be allowed. Basically you robbed me of $ 50 . This will be my last purchase from a dishonest firm.
