Display resolution and Setup issues

I picked this up on a Black Friday deal (open box Excellent Condition and tested through Geek Squad ). Plugged everything in and ready to start only to find out the display resolution off the HDMI port was at least 200% enlarged. I couldn’t move the screen left or right or up and down with mouse or keyboard to find the continue prompt. Frustrated I took it back and ask Geek Squad to see if something could be done. They told me Id have to have an appointment. I got in line and returned it! So here’s the kicker… I went online and found another open box excellent condition at a store 34 miles away. Didn’t want to wait a couple of days with shipping so i drove down, picked it up and went to run setup. And guess what happened. This one didn’t come with a dongle for the keyboard and mouse. Used my old wireless keyboard and mouse and connected fine. Started to run setup and again the resolution was expanded. I was able to get through 3 prompts and when it got to wireless network and I couldn’t move the screen. The mouse moves and i can adjust the volume on keyboard but so I know no issues with communicating. I swapped out the monitor…same issue. Placed both monitors on old pc and they both work fine snd resolution is fine. Now I’m reading all this other nonsense and wondering why the Geek Squad is releasing these back n the store when you can clearly see there are resolution issues preventing the setup to get through. HP is usually a good product as i have worked and fixed many in the field doing service. But now i have to look at other options. Definitely staying away fromthis line!

I've used computers of all kinds before, and never had any computers quite so fast for everyday tasks.
Press the power button? On in mere seconds - faster than any other SSD based PC I've used. Open a browser? It just opens. Go to a webpage? It just opens. Want to open Krita, Scrivener, or other lighter creativity software? It opens as quickly as the application itself will allow, if it has a splash screen, and otherwise will simply open instantly.
In short, for productivity, this thing is an unstoppable beast. You may need to upgrade your RAM or add a dedicated graphics cards for more intensive workloads - digital audio work, video editing, graphics rendering, etc. - but as a workstation, this thing will probably last a very long time.
My personal rig (primarily a gaming PC) has high end hardware on the AM4 platform. It doesn't hold a candle to this thing's general speed, and it's not close, either. It takes longer to boot, to be ready to use after it has booted, to open just about any software. it has more RAM and it has a better graphics card, but the only thing it can really do better is gaming. This thing is truly impressive.
Not to mention, this computer looks fantastic. The design of the case is modern and sleek, simple, unintrusive, yet it still draws your eye. If it used a standard motherboard layout, I'd put my gaming PC into this case.
As far as the components themselves go, it's about what you'd expect from a prebuilt office PC. There are no airflow fans inside the case. No intake, no exhaust. The only moving part in the entire PC is the CPU fan (and as a result, it's practically silent. You can only hear it if it's quiet and you get particularly close to it. You'd never notice if you had any sort of noise around you or were wearing headphones). There are 2 RAM slots, and only one is occupied (with green, thin RAM, no heat spreader), so there's room to upgrade there. There is only one SSD slot, and it's hidden under the CPU fan shroud. You can upgrade it, but 1 terabyte to start is solid enough, and you'd need to reinstall an operating system to do so, so I don't think it's worth the effort for most people. There is ample room in the case for a graphics card, but the power supply doesn't have any PCI power cables you could use, so you'd be relying solely on slot power. I'd love to upgrade this thing to a gaming rig, but any graphics card I could use without changing the motherboard (proprietary power connectors) and PSU wouldn't really be enough to match the performance of the processor.
One quirk about opening this computer - you need a Torx bit or flat head to do it. The side panel screw isn't a standard thumbscrew. You can't take it off without a tool. The motherboard is also secured using said torx/flat head screws. It's a bit odd.
I did attempt to game on this, although not very much. I tried Dark Souls Remastered. After lowering the settings a little and turning anti-aliasing altogether, it ran at 60FPS if there wasn't too many things on screen at once. it would drop to about 50fps at its worst. It could probably emulate up to PS2 games respectably, and could play lighter games without issue, but if you're looking to play anything demanding whatsoever, this is not the computer for you.
I should mention that this came with a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse. They both use the same dongle. The keyboard is nice - it's got a good heft to it, and typing on it is smooth and simple. Chiclet style keys you could find on a laptop. There's no switch to turn it on or off - it seems to just work when the PC is on. I'll mention that is has a little bit of delay when you first start typing, sometimes. Not bad enough to cause an issue, but it is noticeable. The mouse is alright. It works great, but it's not very ergonomic.
The computer came with the usual software - HP software for "optimizing performance," McAffee, that kind of thing. Not a terrible amount, all simple enough to remove, but enough to warrant mentioning.
All in all, I think this is a great computer that will last as a personal workstation for quite a long time. The price is a bit high for sure, but for everyday tasks and lighter productivity, you can't beat it, and it will likely remain a fast, reliable computer for years to come. If all you want is a workstation to get things done, and browse the internet, I think this is a candidate worth considering.

Love My HP AMD Ryzen 7 OmniDesk Tower Computer

I was in need of a tower desktop and wow does this fit the bill! I decided to order the Ryzen 7 8700G model instead of Intel and it has 16GB of Ram and 1GB of SSD. Also was accompanied by a nice wireless keyboard and mouse. It weighs in at about 14 pounds so not lightweight but I like that.
After opening I was impressed with all the inputs and the neat gray wood-look panel on front. Something different from any other computer tower designs I've seen. I got it set up next to my monitor and as I use 2 mixers for recording singing music videos was hoping the Ryzen chip would be compatible with the program I have. To my delight it was but before all this you plug it in of course and there will be lots of updates so allow at least 20 minutes or longer depending on your internet speed. I'm used to Windows 11 so the initial setup was very easy for me.
One neat thing I noticed is there's a space between the wood paneling and the chassis where air is drawn in via the cooling fans. Keeps the heat down to a real minimum. On the front panel it comes with a USB Type-C port at 10 Gbps, one other USB Type-C at 5 Gbps, two USB Type-A ports at 10 Gbps, two more USB Type-A at 5 Gbps and a 3.5mm headset jack. On the reverse you'll find four USA 2.0 Type-A ports, ethernet input, an HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4a, plus 3 audio jacks for IN, OUT and MICROPHONE. I needed the extra ports, especially the convenience of being in the front, for my mixers and accessories.
Most of my computers use 32GB but I found the speed to be more than sufficient, even with 16GB of Ram, for whatever I threw at it. This computer rocks! Played some internet films perfectly with no buffering although I do have 1GB of internet speed. It has AI included if you use that feature. I found it to be quiet which I need when recording or trying to concentrate on my work. It's very responsive for multitasking, efficient and played a few of my Xbox games very well.
I definitely recommend the purchase of this HP computer. I am pleased as can be with mine from the designer looks to lots of ports and its responsiveness. A superb quality buy at a decent price!

Had to replace my Windows 10 machine at home. This one met my requirements for storage space and RAM. Nice looking case. The SSD makes the machine so quiet, I forget it's on some times. A lot of USB ports. Nice to have them marked with capacity. I would have liked an internal drive bay for an optical drive. After a week of use, the speed is good. Still loading new software but so far everything is working great.

TDLR - Decent desktop for everyday use, business or home. Stays quiet, set to a limited power target which keeps the temps in check. Copious front IO makes up for the general lack of rear IO. Questionable/near zero upgrade paths, which should be a no-no in 2025. Single 16GB stick allows for another stick to be added, but limits out of box performance. Includes fairly nice wireless keyboard and mouse.
Case/Build - Good looking small desktop, gray fake wood front, has a bunch of front IO. Opens easily. Zero case fans, limited to a crazy shroud system over the CPU heatsink/fan. No open NVME slots. Uses a 12vo power supply so there aren’t any normal connections available.
General performance - Good enough out of the box performance, wifi 6, but still connected at 1.2gbps to my wifi 7 AP. They limit the 8700G to 65w on both short and long boost, even though the chip should boost higher and peak around 88w. Decent Samsung SSD that peaks at around 5GB/s reads. The lack of dual channel memory does leave processor and graphics performance on the table. Everyday tasks, including email/web browsing/youtube all work fine, but if you want to try even light gaming, or anything CPU intensive, the 8700g and 780m are going to underperform due to the lack of dual channel memory.
(To back up my claims, I tested with a dual channel kit I have, the system only ran memory at 4800, still saw a ridiculous 84% increase in 3DMark time spy. Even the CPU test Geekbench 6 saw a 25% increase in multi thread)
Cons - While I have my issues with the memory, I have even bigger gripes with HP releasing a system in 2025 that has very little in the way of upgrade paths/is going to be near instant e-waste once it hits EOL.
Proprietary motherboard
single SATA port with no power connector
specialized power supply that cannot be easily upgraded
low rated power supply (even though there is a PCIE 16x slot open for a future graphics card upgrade, you’ll be limited to a GPU that has no extra power connectors)
Zero open NVME SSD slots even though it looks like the motherboard can support an extra slot, it just isn’t soldered on.
Single fan on the heatsink for the entire system. Zero case fans. The case only seems to support a single rear exhaust if needed. Shroud system directs air, but to keep temps in check HP limits the peak performance of the 8700g. Still hits over 85c under a longer CPU load in a cool basement.
HP has a bit of a dud on this one, not the best value, if it's going to be a “set and forget” office PC or something similar you’ll do ok with it, but anything forward thinking or thinking of future upgrades, I would look elsewhere.

The keyboard is nice and hefty with a nice click to the keys, the mouse however is sharp all along the top molding. The dongle for them can be stored in the mouse which has a weird way of opening where you pull the top off to insert the batteries.
The internals are clean, but there isn't really much room to upgrade if you want to, the PSU is just the bare essentials without even the switch on the back and there does not appear to be another slot for an NVME short of adding a PCI-e adapter. There are traces on the motherboard where one could be soldered but that's unused. You do have an additional slot for another stick of DDR5 ram if you want.
The antenna is mounted low on it so if you have the computer on the floor you're signal isn't great.
The built in wifi isn't particularly fast and the range position of the antennas doesn't appear to help the range. I got at best 200mbps of downloading when I move the computer closer to the router, when I had it in another room it took an hour to download the initial updates for Windows. I actually had to physically pick up the computer and place it on top of another computer to improve the performance.
If you're just planning to use it for web surfing and some light workloads it will be fine, but the ability to play games isn't there outside of fairly old titles and less resource intensive titles. I tried Dark Souls III out just to see if it would work, it required the resolution to be dropped to below 720p and the graphics to be set to medium or low to get 60fps.

Video capture + editing pc; Run up to 2 heavy apps

The HP OmniDesk Desktop AMD computer tower has been a good solution to achieve a dedicated station for my latest analog video capturing process. I did the initial startup and downloaded a couple softwares in an evening. That process took as long as I expected and once it was up and running, everything worked quickly and efficiently. I like that the set-up gave me the option to bring over all the settings from my Microsoft account like dark mode and accent color. It’s convenient that this bundle comes with the necessary AAA batteries to power the included keyboard and mouse, which are very easy to connect and start using.
The available ports on the front of the tower are great for connecting my external SSD, HDD, and USB capture hardware. I somewhat regularly transfer 50+GB of JPGs, RAW files, and 2K video files, so having easily accessible USB-A / USB-C ports with 10Gbps & 5Gbps signaling data rates is ideal for transfers. The rest of the ports like HDMI, Display and additional USB ports are accessible on the back of the unit; this is where I connected the mouse USB dongle.
As far as RAM and storage go, this system provides the medium and mid-range specs. The 16GB RAM is able to run heavy applications like OBS Studio, granted I’m capturing and not streaming, and I’ve even opened up Premiere Pro as OBS was running and started editing a video. I haven’t noticed any significant slow downs. When I ran Premiere Pro and OBS Studio at the same time, I heard the CPU/fan running a little harder. But that would be expected given the specs (16GB RAM) and considering I was running two moderate to heavy programs at once, meaning the CPU is working hard.
This middle of the road computer is a great option for most people, especially if you’re going to use the internet, create or store documents, use it to store videos/pictures, play movies and even a little more than that like using a heavy application or two. If that sounds like your use case, the 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage is likely enough for you. I have a lot of large video /photo RAW files, etc. so 1TB isn’t enough in the long run, but I’m the type of file collector who has about 8TB of files stored externally (which is why I’m considering additional storage). If you don’t handle tons of large files, 1TB may be suitable for most people.
I’m pleased so far these past few days playing around on this computer. Considering that many of the specs are not too light, not super heavy, I think it’s going to be a good experience for casual users and then some. It’s suitable enough for my video capture project and light editing, so I’m glad I have this dedicated station for it.
I anticipate I’ll want or need 32GB of RAM if I want to turn this station into an A/V editing suite. RAM and additional storage are likely the most reasonable upgrades I can make to this pre-built computer. The reason I may not upgrade the GPU is because the ones I’ve looked into would require me to also upgrade the PSU. I’m currently searching for a GPU that’s compatible with the PSU on this model. The computer is working well so far, but I would love to upgrade RAM and storage eventually.
I had some hiccups when I booted the computer a couple of times, but it was after specific circumstances: one was an accidental power outage, upon startup again, it just wouldn’t go past the black and white hp logo screen, so I had to stop and start booting again. The other time, the boot was taking forever, so I stopped it, unplugged all the storage and usb devices from the front of the tower, and startup was quick/successful after that. I’ve had to unplug devices for another computer that had a startup issue like that so in this instance, I knew what to do and didn’t have issues after that.

This is a great computer. The price is reasonable. And it comes loaded! It has ample USB ports. Be sre to check the connections of your monitor to make sre they fit. You may need to get an adapter if you are using an existing monitor from an older system. After I figured it out, it was easy to set up and use. No fault of the computer. I'm not very tech-savvy. It runs very quiet and it is very fast. It came with a wireless keyboard and mouse plus a free month of McAfee antivirus. The only other thing I would caution would be that it doesn't have a disc player but it doesn't really need one for set up.
I'm very happy with my purchase.

I was originally going to buy directly from H/P Website.
But had to do a bank transfer in order to by the H/P Website Computer (it was a Ryzen 5) The bank transfer took 24 hours. Next day I checked the H/P Website and the price had increased over $200. I did a search using the "Omnidesk" as a search word and Best Buy was selling this Omnidesk which is a more powerful computer for only $40 more than the original price of the Ryzen 5 I had been originally looking at on H/P Website, this Omnidesk Ryzen 7 Now has been registered, Updated, has had Norton installed and my personal files from my Old Computer transferred to this Omnidesk. It's been operating very nicely.
