    great first laptop for kids

bought two of these for my daughters. My 13 year old wasn't impressed, mainly due to lag time, so she basically confiscated my wife's laptop. my 8 year old loves it, switches from tablet to laptop, plays games, watches netflix, even skypes with her friends. The laptop is really entry level, but for someone with limited need the flexibility to go from tablet to laptop is wonderful.

This is a great investment for a student like myself! I was able to get it on sale at Best Buy for $50 less than elsewhere! It superseded my expectations and I was extremely satisfied with its performance and ease of use! I was really doubting the performance of the Intel Pentium processor, but It's really fast and reliable, the touchscreen makes it a lot easier and fun to operate, the 2in1 conversion system allows you to enjoy the power of a laptop, with the convenience of a tablet. The beats audio makes any external speakers amazing with awesome bass!!!! I was astounded to find that there are few flaws with this machine compared to the advantages. The display has no-so-great viewing angles, and the glare is really annoying. All I had to do is buy an Anti-Glare Screen Protector and it solved the problem. The battery life isn't all that bad for my needs but for other people it might be a problem (it lasts about 4 hours). Another more obscure issue Ive encountered is whenever the machine is set to "Power Saver", when you play a song it will crackle and slow down for about 2 seconds, and then it will recover and play the whole song perfectly with no issues. it happens a lot but whenever you take it off power saver it usually doesn't happen. It's kinda annoying but it's not really all that bad. I take this puppy everywhere I go and I use it to play music when I'm driving to school or work. Overall, this computer is great, and should fit the basic computing needs of most people!

    Terrible product with repeating problems.

I've owned this since June 2014 and I've had to send it back to HP 3 times now. The computer won't start up at all. Support told me it was something in the cpu that was broken so they fixed it the first time, got it back and it worked for about 5 months then the same problem happened again. Sent it back and it worked for 1 month and now the same problem. I'm a student and have to keep having my work interrupted because this product wont work reliably. It is also extremely slow and the user interface is just annoying. The only good thing about this is that it is light and easily transported, but that's no good if it won't even work. I would never recommend this to anyone and wish that I could get my money back or exchange it for something else.

    Great When It Works

I bought this PC in the mint green color directly from HP.com. The touch screen is great and the laptop is very functional... when it works. I constantly get this blue screen that says there is an error and computer needs to restart. Seems to be an issue with the Realtek wireless card from what I've read online. It happens at least twice a day now and I've only had for about 2.5 weeks. The computer has also gotten progressively slower as I've used it. I've tried to dump data and make sure there are no viruses. It's just not what I expected.

    Good Netbook

This is a good little Pc and it serves my purpose in that I know it's limitations. It's not the best choice if multi tasking with programs that are resource draining. But but simple web browsing and emails it works. This is my 1st touch screen and I'm not getting much use since I'm using my mouse. I'm using this windows 8 operating system with a windows 7 desktop configuration. Since I don't have the windows 8 tiles on my desktop I seldom use the touch screen. But it does work fine when needed. I like that it has at least 1 USB3 port. I bought a USB3 hub to add more ports. I like the ability to fold back my screen and use it like a tablet when travalling or have limited space. Though it has 4gb ram, the processor is not the fastest and performance it only satisfactory. I wish I had gotton the Intel 3i processor, but I can live with the performance it has for the limited things I do with it. I plan to add a SSD Drive and that will raise speed and performance to my liking. I got this on sale here at BB and I'm happy with it.

    Great Laptop/Tablet

I bought this for my wife to replace an older netbook she has that was running very slow. I did some research and decided on this one because of the features and price. I'm not too familiar with Windows 8.1 but the wife seems to be doing ok with it. It came with a year's subscription of Office 360 and some other apps that I uninstalled because they were just taking up space and she would never use. I also installed an anti-virus software. Overall, she's very happy with it. The only complain i have is the battery doesn't last as much as they advertise but it's not horrible.

Picked this up on sale for wife. It is full of a lot of typical HP bloatware, once you spend a couple of hours clearing off all of the junk software and rearrange Windows 8 tiles you are all set to go. The functionality of this laptop acts a lot like a tablet. It is touchscreen or you can use it like a regular laptop with a mouse. Great for web surfing, e-mail and apps. Probably not the best choice for a "work" computer (ie: Microsoft office), it may be too slow for that type of functionality. However, I would not pass this up, it is much cheaper than buying an Ipad and it has more functionality. My wife loves it, highly recommended if you can find it on sale.

OK Laptop/No So Good As A Tablet/So-so Display

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My biggest gripe about this 2-in-1 is the display. At slightly off angle, the screen brightness/contrast nearly disappears. This is particularly evident when using this 2-in-1 as a tablet when the tendency is to shift the angle of view while balancing on my lap or holding it in hand. Generally, I do not find the screen brightness too bad. It works OK in a bright room or sitting on my deck. At a fixed angle and in a darker room, the display improves. IMO text display is just fair. The above mentioned negative really drags down my opinion of this box. Keyboard is fine. Trackpad is one of the best I have used on a laptop. I do not generally like trackpads but, this is one that I can live with. A USB wireless attached mouse works fine. Wi-fi reception of my music files from my media drive work well in Windows Media Player. Occasional slowness and lag in a variety of apps/programs is common. I have had IE freeze several times even with few windows open. I think a minimum core I3 would help. I bought this on one of Best Buy's daily deals for $249. I do not think it is worth more than that. Despite my disappointment with this 2-in-1, I can live with it and I will keep it. The alternative would have been to spend >$400 on a Lenovo Yoga.

I bought this laptop in August for college and liked it for the weight and size. It is the perfect size to easily fit into my backpack and does not add a ton of weight with all of my books and such. I had my first problem today and that was that the touchscreen had stopped working. I went to HP customer service and they were able to help me fix the issue and now my touchscreen is better than ever! I would definitely recommend this product to anyone that is heading to college soon. It is the perfect 2-in-one without having to shell out the big bucks!

Gets the job done, priced right.

This works best as a second laptop. Not the most powerful machine in the world but good enough to get the job done. It’s inexpensive, well made and plenty good enough to get basic work done. I had both the Yoga 2 and the MS Surface Tablet 2, and I like this better. Battery life is fine, Windows 8.1 is a nice operating system, the touch screen and touch pad are quite good, and Windows Store apps run fine. Again, as a #1 machine it’s shaky, but as a #2 or a “fun” machine you’ll be quite happy. Tip: upgrade it with a SDD drive. What you may lose in storage you’ll more than gain in performance. It’s surprisingly easy to DIY. And you probably won’t miss the storage. As to the quibbles about bluetooth, etc. that’s probably more a Windows issue and a horsepower issue than anything else. Go into it knowing that, and you’ll be happy. If marked down, even better.

It does a great job and the touchscreen is great, very responsive and the laptop is great for office-like things. Basic power but the touchscreen really makes it much more useful to browse and windows 8 is a lot better now. It's also light and thin so it's very easy to move around and such.

    Nice Inexpensive Laptop

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This laptop and I got off to a bad start. The first one I got had a screen that was coming apart in the corner. I exchanged it and the exchanged laptop's screen would not even turn on. I attempted a third one and so far, it has been great. I purchased this laptop for basic needs, such as browsing the web and streaming services. It works perfectly for that. I upgraded the drive to a solid state drive and its performance has increased drastically. If upgrading the drive isn't an option, I would recommend you remove a lot of the bloatware that traditionally comes with HP laptops. I ended up removing over 40 games and instances of software in the first day that were just not needed, including McAfee antivirus. The screen being small makes it so the 1366 x 768 resolution is quite crisp. It looks great for HD content from Netflix. It also reverses so it's easy to set it on your lap and watch variations of video content. Pros: -Nice design (sleek and light) -Nice and clear screen -Nice keyboard -Good price -Screen movements are versatile Cons: -Comes with a lot of bloatware installed -Speakers aren't very good (but it is a laptop) -First two had screen issues

    Perfect for College Student

I bought this laptop to use for this upcoming semester of college. For the past couple of years I've carried around a very heavy 17.3" HP. Even though having a big screen is nice, I really wanted something more lightweight but didn't really want a tablet due to their limited memory capacity. After extensive research, I found this and have so far been really happy with it. For the price and everything that comes with it, I wouldn't want anything else. I love that I have the option of very responsive tablet but the memory of a laptop. The Beats sound system is by far the best I've ever heard on a laptop yet. Apps, Netflix, and other videos run smoothly. Overall, I'm really impressed and happy with the product. If you're unsure of this laptop, I highly recommend going to YouTube and watching reviews and unboxing videos so you know what to expect.

    Decent with problems

Alright, this is my first laptop I bought. I wanted something small, easy to carry, light, and with a good keyboard. This had checked it all. However what I forgot to check was the internet connection. I use the internet for everything. For writing my essays seeing Microsoft felt like being a A and doesn't give Word for free and wants people pay a good 100 dollars for that. (Really? I'm only a student with not a lot of money! I rather just not buy it and use google drive which is a good alt. to Word.) The internet is just horrible- the connection is horrible! It disconnects and sometimes NEVER connect even if the router is right next to this computer. I keep getting this problem multiple times and it stops me from writing my essay or being able to watch a few episodes. Unless you have really good internet at home or is willing to flush a 100 dollars for this go for it. It might be different from you, but this I might actually return for another laptop. Furthermore, the touch screen of the laptop loves to shake, I fear it'll just break of because of it- the power button is not on the top of the keyboard but on the side just to note. Sometimes the mouse pad doesn't work on the internet for some strange reason unless I restart the laptop. The battery life is iffy, about 4 hours or less depending on your light settings which is pretty low on my standards. I was hoping for a bit longer. Experiment with this at the store, see if you like it before you buy it.

My daughter likes this computer--she uses the hinge constantly and it works well and is solid. She flips it back to stand it up to watch movies, she flattens it to point at stuff or show people things on her screen, and she uses it like a regular computer to write papers and such. She has been happy with the machine and it was a good value for the money.

    Way too many problems...

I got this computer in May for my upcoming departure to college in August. I liked everything about it and hadn't seen many bad reviews on it, so I decided it was the one for me. Unfortunately, the cheap price directly translates to cheap design. It won't stay connected to the internet all the time, dropping randomly and taking a while to reconnect. It also has this little issue where if it goes to sleep while updating, it completely goes dormant unless the power button is held for about 20 seconds to reboot it (took me a 20 minute trip to Best Buy and Geek Squad to find that out. So glad they told me beforehand). It is also incredibly slow, almost like an older computer that's been bogged down a good bit. And the battery life is ridiculously short. I'm lucky if mine can last through a whole movie without dying. I'm just waiting for the next issue to arise at this point. I thought it was a good investment because of the x360 screen, but really that just adds to the problems if nothing else. Do not buy!! At least Geek Squad support is free.....
