Poor Quality Laptop - HP Support Even Worse...

I have used HP laptops for years with very few issues. As such, I never buy additional protection such as Geek Squad etc., because I always thought I was protected by HP in regard to quality and the one year warranty. Boy was I wrong. The laptop itself was ok. Not particularly fast for having 8 megs of RAM and an I5 processor. Eight months in, I started getting periodic blue screens and the machine would reboot. I ran several diagnostics which identified it as a RAM issue. I called HP phone support and was subjected to the worst customer service experience imaginable. I say customer service even though it was tech support because the technician knew nothing. He ran my machine though basic HP diagnostic tests and kept insisting it was software issue. He wouldn't issue help with sending my machine back for repair or help with any warranty support. I keep a transcript of the session because I was shocked. I called an HP service center directly who confirmed over the phone that the problem was probably a RAM issue. I had to drive quite a ways but ended up dropping the machine off and the RAM was replaced under HP warranty. The machine is functioning without the blue screen issue but I remain shocked at the terrible HP support. I needed another machine for my business and purchased a Lenovo from Best Buy instead. My advice is that if you purchase and HP laptop, invest in the Geek Squad protection or be prepared to battle HP to get them to honor their warranty. If I was not technically savvy, they never would have replace the faulty RAM.
