Computer screen turned black and cost me 2 day of
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a court reporter and cannot afford to have my computer shut down on me. I tried getting it to work for two days whuch cost me money. Could not turn on or off. Brought to best buy and they had to remove hard drive because they couldn't turn on or off either even thought computer was lit up. I didn't want another one because I was afraid would do same thing and I paid too much for it.

A great device, though some odd design options.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an excellent laptop with some... interesting design choices. First is the fans: maybe it's just mine but even under a light load they have a whistling sound that is tough to describe. They're by far the most obnoxious fans I've heard on a laptop. The bottom of this laptop gets HOT... like 'don't keep this on your lap if you want kids' hot; even with only light to moderate usage on the balanced setting. Second is the SSD: This uses an Intel H10 NVMe SSD. It has 32GB of Optane + 1TB of QLC* storage. The storage is bifurcated at a PCIe level but treated as a single device at a software level. Where a normal NVMe SSD would have up to 4GB/s (~3.5GB/s) read and write, this only can get to about 1.9GB/s due to the fact that half of the bandwidth is dedicated to each device. There doesn't appear to be any SLC caching on this drive, either so once you exhaust the Optane memory cache the performance falls off a cliff. It will settle in around 350MB/s write after ~25GB written so if you often write large files from a high-speed source then you should consider the version without Optane which has a much faster SSD (for that specific purpose. There are advantages to the Optane version because day-to-day tasks are lightning-fast off Optane device and it's rare that I run into this issue. Third is most easily fixed by the end user: Out of the box the screen looks absolutely awful. Like 'how did anyone approve this' awful. For some reason mine shipped without HDR (high dynamic range) being enabled. To make sure yours has it enabled type 'HDR' into the search bar and choose 'Windows HD Color Settings' and enable HDR across all of the apps and desktop. Then after a second your screen will go from a red-heavy mess to looking like a very, very nice display (it might also explain the negative comments about the display itself because the 'diamond' pattern disappeared when I did this). (It also allows for HDR Netflix, and YouTube when using Chrome and HDR videos which look spectacular in 4K). (When you're in the HDR menu you can also change the SDR display. I bumped mine down by about 12 (50 ->38) to make everything a little whiter (cooler) as it's quite warm (yellowish) out of the box with HDR enabled. The included pen is not satisfying to use. It's springy and you have to push a certain level (~50%) to engage a 'click' on the screen and it can take multiple attempts to get it to register. This is a stark contrast to my Tab S4's S Pen and my Apple Pencil, both of which are solid while still allowing for both pressure sensitivity and accurate/consistent clicking/engagement. You can only get either the LTE (WWAN) -or- the 4K screen, which is strange (and Best Buy's pictures erroneously showing the SIM card for the LTE on the 4K model don't help the buying process... SKU 6376413 does NOT have the SIM slot displayed in picture 4.) So that's the... I suppose you could say bad? decisions (minus the fans which are objectively bad). What about the good? The keyboard is excellent, as is the Precision trackpad. (Person tip: change the tracking speed from 4 to 5 and change the 3-finger gesture from minimize/maximize all apps to adjusting the volume). The speakers are quite good and miles better than my old Yoga 910. The build quality is superb. The screen (after enabling HDR) is spectacular. The fingerprint reader works every time (no camera-based Windows Hello, which is fine because it allows for slimmer bezels). The screen is nicely weighted on the laptop (my Yoga 910 had the heavy 4K screen at the very top of the display which made it prone to tipping over on your lap and the hinge move when touching the screen). The MicroSD card reader clocks in at at least 100MB/s read and write (the fastest my cards will go). This has basically my ideal selection of ports: 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports, a USB A Port, headphone jack, and MicroSD card reader). My USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gb/s) SSD clocks in at a full ~800MBps when using USB-C and ~450 MBps when using the USB-A port. This device uses the latest, and extremely fast, Intel CPUs with Intel Iris Pro graphics (basically the best of the best for laptops without dedicated graphics for the moment). There is moderate bloatware on this. It's mainly McAfee, ExpressVPN, HotSpot Shield VPN (2 VPNS?..), LastPass, and Dropbox. Maybe 3 minutes it took to remove everything but LastPass (which isn't immediately obvious how to remove, it's not listed anywhere that I can see). It would be much better if Lastpass had an easy uninstall option. *QLC stands for Quad-Level Cell. From fastest to slowest it goes: S(ingle) level cell M(ulti) level cell T(ri/triple) level cell, and finally QLC which is the slowest SSD flash storage right now. These are collectively named, SLC, MLC, TLC, QLC. Generally QLC drives contain an amount of SLC (fast) cache to lessen the effects of its slowness. This drive contains only Optane cache which is very small but very fast (arguably faster than SLC).

Computer is Worth it review is for something else.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have avoided using HP for more than 10 years because of its bloatware. If another HP supported third party ad pops up on my computer I will return this laptop. This is the reason my computer will not buy HP and why I have encouraged others to avoid them. I'm giving you another chance do not disappoint me.

Reserved lap top with tech she had sold it.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Called ahead for product availability. Tech said they had one and she would put my name on it. It was explained we were on our way there. When we got there it had been sold and the tech denied any knowledge. Manager would not speak to us. Very poor customer relations.

Defective product and poor service
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed Windows 10 Pro. The associate was happy to sell it to me but this computer won't allow the upgrade. I've been denied a refund and Geek Squad wasn't the least bit helpful in trying to resolve the problem. I don't recommend this product or this store.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked great for a week than a operating issue with the BIOS. After returning and getting a replacement, there was a hardware issue with the fingerprint reader. I gave up and returned to bestbuy.com return center. It was delivered three weeks ago and no refund

Great. Look no further
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, I saw a review here that had an issue with the screen. I am a little perplexed by the comments. I am using this for both medical, photo and video apps and find it to be one of the most accurate, bright screens with as much if not more latitude than any other notebook. Yes, the elephant in the room for all OLED is "true white" which tends to be a little warm compared to LCD alternatives. The presets HP gives are pretty good, better than I was expecting. However, a simple calibration will bring the screen to better specs than you can imagine for a notebook. Is it going to replace a $3,000 Eizo for photo editing or a $6000 dollar Barco for med apps? No, of course not. Is it better than any other notebook at this price I have ever used? Absolutely. I tried a Z workstation notebook and as an all around ultrabook that you will take everywhere with you, I found this one to be tops. I saw a review where they questioned the "design" and didn't like the colors of the gold with black. Gimme a break. The keyboard is not as good as my previous Thinkpad X1 but much better than my wife's MacBook Pro. This is the first notebook I have used where the touchpad works flawlessly, not quite as good as a MacBook Pro but much better than any other Windows laptop. Not sure why the touchpad on the Thinkpad is so bad but this one is awesome. Give what you get, in such a small package for the price, I can't believe HP could do it. I played with the "HDR" version of the XPS and really like it. However, I like the screen better on this, like the ergonomics better and love what you get a cheaper price, which includes the top of teh line processor, a pen, a carry case, an OLED and 1TB of storage. You kidding me? My only quibble is that when you buy the OLED there is no room for sim card for AT&T or Verizon. No biggie for me as I can tether to my iPhone when necessary. However, that was built in to my ThinkPad. Battery is very good at 75% brightness and obviously drops the higher the brightness BUT still much better than I was expecting for a machine with these specs. If all day battery life is your thing look elsewhere, with a lower resolution and less bright screen. I rarely give a piece of hardware my highest recommendation but this one deserves it.

Amazing Lap Top
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced an older Lenovo 15" LT with this one. Super fast, love the keyboard and no issues with the screen reflection. I don't use it outside so no reflection issues for me. The 4K AMOLED screen is stunning for my one on one presentations. Watching 4K content is crazy good. Discount made it to good to pass up for what I needed.
