    Spectacular product

After 5 years with my struggling gaming laptop I figured it was time for a lighter and better upgrade. Bought it directly from HP to get it before Best Buy had it in stock. Got the 4K with Iris Graphics, 16GB RAM and i7- 6560U. Ran Premiere Pro a few times and there was no lag, of course it heated up but then fan managed to cool it down. But there was no noticeable slowing down. And the fan was not annoyingly loud. Picture is sharp. Every now and then you'll encounter software that is shrunken because of its lower pixel density and even if you try to disable display setting on high density display it doesn't work. Just gotta deal with it until your software gets that 4K treatment. I can’t attest much to screen brightness because my display is usually set on the darker end about the lowest darkness up to 35%. I’d say it’s bright enough. And sometimes it’s as if the display adapts to ambiance brightness. Speakers? Well you get 4 B&O, 2 up top and 2 on the bottom that works simultaneously, but that doesn't amount to much. When there was news about this product at CES I think they said only 2 will work at a time depending on how you orient it but I guess they shied away from that. Just don’t expect impeccable sound. Even settings can’t be tweaked enough to make it sound much better. Sound is OK at best. Lenovo Yoga 900 excelled in that category. It only has 2 small speakers placed at the bottom but boy oh boy will it blow your mind when you flip it around the sound adapts. This PC doesn’t when you flip it around so even when maxing volume it can be hard to understand dialog from the video you’re watching. Found it weird that the touchpad is a bit wide but I guess it has its perks especially when dragging a window without holding that left click. Another possible problem I noticed is when you pinch or press down the lower right of the pc, just right of the touchpad, there seems to be some kinda click. Hope it’s not just my PC that does that. To conclude, yes I would recommend this PC to anyone looking for a light computer less than 5 lbs with good sound, good picture, and a screen no smaller than 15”.

This is the highest end of the HP Spectre line , all around premium feel, machined aluminum build is very light and sturdy, works very well as a laptop and tablet, 4k screen is bright and beautiful, performance with 6th gen i7 processor and 16GB RAM is fast and responsive, highly recommended

    Application Scaling Issues

    Posted .

While I'm not a computer expert, I have learned enough through researching this problem that there is an issue between the newest technology related to DPI on the HP Spectre and applications that haven't caught up to the technology. After researching and troubleshooting the problem, I found that many of my apps (a business app and a photo app) will open to a tiny microscopic window that is unreadable. Unfortunately, the problem is not resolvable by simply changing the window resolution or or using Ctrl/scroll/+ to enlarge the window. This seems to be a problem of apps that haven't caught up with the DPI feature on this computer. I recommend trying out your most used programs and apps before buying this computer or you could be in for a lot of frustration. Aside from that issue (and it is a big issue) the computer is lightweight and fairly fast. Took some getting used to the touch screen (it was my first time using one), but a very nice feature. I really like how the screen flips around for tablet use too. My previous computer had a DVD reader/writer onboard as well as a keypad. Didn't realize how much I would miss both, but it's a trade off for having a lighter weight, more portable computer. I'm using an external DVD reader, but it's a bit clunky and adds clutter to the desk. Speakers are okay for functional use but I'm not impressed with the speakers for listening to music. Also, I frequently lose the speaker function after a windows update. Ideally, I would just reload the drivers, but sometimes that doesn't work and I have had to do a restore point a couple of times resulting in installing each windows update one at a time to see which one is wiping out the speaker function.

I think I bought a dud. I had to call HP 3 times in 2 days on this computer, in which I traded in for a different brand. HP isn't what it use to be.

Best Windows 10 Laptop that I have tried

I have tried several windows laptops and have returned them for various reasons, mostly bad drivers, slow response time. This laptop has fast and responsive boot times and multitasking doesn't seem to slow it down. I'm not a gamer, so I can't tell you anything about the graphics for that. I had a few issues at first but after automatic driver updates everything seems to be working fine. My only complaint is the trackpad, but not just this laptop, it's all windows trackpads just aren't as responsive and smooth as Apple Mac's, hopefully there will be a update for that in the future.

Not So Good On The First Try

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Out of the box I loved everything about it. Having used it for two days a few things have bothered me which will force me to return it for another one, hopefully I won't have the same problems twice. The first thing to happen was some screen flicker at random times, or I get a black screen for about thirty seconds and it goes away on its own. Second, any video watched in full screen will speed up parts of the video as it if I were fast forwarding but not the whole screen. It does this every time I use full screen only. I also find the keyboard very difficult to see in daylight as the there is no contrast between the letters and the keys. I had also hoped that it would work a little faster then my previous laptop which did not have an SS drive, but the difference is not that noticeable. Granted I had a very high end Toshiba, but it just fell apart literally. I am a photographer and am on my laptops at least 4 to 5 hours a day so I do know what I am talking about. I'll give this one one more try and hope it works, I really do like most things about it.

I purschased this laptop about a week ago and it is already the best i've ever owned. It did cost a pretty penny but boy it looks absolutely gorgeous. I just wish HP had kept the "Spectre" logo on the top like the 13 inch model. The 4k screen is stunning. Its very fast, responsive and incredibly easy to carry around. The dual core skylake i7 should be more than good enough for all but the most demanding of tasks. No bloatware too . Just some minor hiccups with crashes and some blue screens in the start but after a few updates it has been working like a charm. One thing, it does come pre-installed with McAfee and for some reason it wouldn't let me download chrome. I had to finally uninstall McAfee to get chrome and i've been using windows defender ever since.

    Great Computer

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this computer to replace a 7 year old Dell. I looked for six months and did not find anything that I liked. I stumbled upon this computer after reading many great reviews. I wanted something that was light, portable, fast and had great battery life and the Spectre x360 delivered! Seems better than a MacBook Pro and is a lot cheaper for the 15 inch version. It is very versatile being a 2 in 1. I opted to go with the larger 500 GB hard drive and not with the 4K screen so the battery would last even longer. Best Buy did not carry this option, so I ordered from HP directly. The SS hard drive and I7 processor make this thing super fast. Downsides if any have been getting used to the large mouse pad and the speakers aren't that great. Takes some getting used to Windows 10, but that's the same for all new computers. Doesn't have a CD drive built in, which is fine. Hardly ever use those things anymore and would rather have the computer be lighter. Would definitely recommend.

    The Perfect Laptop? Almost..

This laptop is amazing to say the least. 4K display, backlit keyboard, 2-in-1, Linux compatible, and touchscreen. I am a controls/automation engineer that uses this every day for programming and CAD design. It works great and has plenty of power to run multiple VMs simultaneously. As a tablet, I can simulate touch applications I develop while testing equipment where the equipment is. The metal case is great. Works well in my 3-monitor desk setup. Only complaints: * Keys on keyboard should be black for better contrast, especially in low light conditions. * Screen tends to want to fall if tilted further back. * Stock SSD is way too small for my needs. Upgraded to 512 immediately. Will get a 1TB now that they are out and have come down in price a bit, * Power button is on the side and can accidentally get pressed too easily when in tablet or tent mode. I was initially hesitant on the larger bezel, but once you use this as a tablet, one begins to see that the bezel is perfect the way it is. This really is a great laptop, even considering the above. It is a work of art and its fine craftsmanship, quality, and design is plainly visible from every angle. (I have owned this since Feb. 2016)

Purchased in 2016 from BB. Two issues I noticed from the beginning. Overheats quickly and the battery life is extremely poor if you utilise the recommended settings. Specs: 4k ultra hd 16gb 256 ssd. Just as good as machines being built today.

The first one they sent me it took two FULL days with HP support. I couldn't set up my email and tile addresses were not displaying properly and crashed when opening. Almost gave up. HP support determined it was an operating system error and Best Buy no problem returned it after the return period and ordered me a new one. The new one took 2 seconds to set up with no problems. So different than the first one. This laptop is fast with a gorgeous screen. Looking forward to using it now. I guess if you get one with a decent OS you'll be very happy with this laptop. Maybe i was just the unlucky one. I like that it's 360 and I bought the active stylus but have not used it yet. Would have given it 4 stars because of all the trouble I had with the first one, but I can't downgrade it as this one works so perfectly and is a premium machine.

This computer was a replacement for a Sony convertible. The Sony does compete with this computer very well but it does not have the clear graphic (4K screen). The screen on the HP is so clear. The keyboard is not easy for me to see because it’s all a silver color and the letters are small. There is no RJ45 network plug. It’s too thin, I think. (We bought a USB to RJ45 adapter.) The power connector to the computer is too large if you have plug it in various places. It might break off. Try to make if more of a flat, sideways plug. Although it’s fast, it could be faster. It is fast to connect to a wireless network. It is easy to carry and use.

I bought this computer a little less than a month ago. It was really fast and the display was very nice. However, I did end up returning this computer for a different one. Upon start up, the computer would sometimes freeze and I would have to reboot it. Other times the screen would go blank. This process would happen a few times in a row, which made the start up take forever. Sometimes it would take 15 minutes just to get the computer going. While I did not have a good experience with this computer and did not end up keeping it, I still gave this computer 4 stars because the one that I bought was open-box and that could have been the reason for the issues. for me, the only other issue was the size. It is really big! I didn't realize this until I took it to school, but, it is very, very thin and light. If not for the freezing, I would have happily kept this very fast computer.

Just got this from my local Best Buy .. thrilled with this purchase! Okay, so I've only had it for an hour but set it all up and so far so good :) For over a decade I had a MacBook Pro, and this aluminum body of the Spectre reminds me of it, only the Spectre is way more thin and sleek. I got tired of the bad battery, spinning pinwheel and other issues with the Mac so I made the leap to PC, which I'm used to using at work anyway. I am currently studying to become a Front End Developer (web coding) and I'm not into gaming or video so I think this model should be sufficient. There are only 2 minor issues I'm wondering about so far with the Spectre: the bottom did seem to get a little hot, but I don't know what to compare it to (if it's typical or not, who knows). I'm hoping having the SSD will prevent a lot of the issues I had with my Mac regarding overheating and SMC fan control (that drove me nuts). The other thing is I'm not used to this type of trackpad, since the edge next to it is very thin it will take some getting used to figuring out how to position my thumb and do left and right clicks (anyone have any tips?). Aside from that, this is one beautiful-looking notebook! For comparison if it helps anyone, I had been looking at the ASUS Zenbook Flip previously, which seemed nice but I did not like the hinges (they were too shiny and distracting, and created a gap of space between the screen and the base. I also decided I couldn't bear a 13" screen which seems just way too small for a main computer esp. when I will be doing coding. I decided on the Spectre because it gives me a 15" screen yet is very lightweight compared to other brands of the same size, and I did not enjoy lugging my 15" MacBook Pro into coffee shops. I also had to have the convertible 2-in-1 feature, because I often like to connect my laptop to an external large monitor at home, and the flexibility to put in a "Tent" position is perfect for this, since it gets the keyboard out of the way and you could put the laptop to the side of your big monitor and use an external keyboard. I also considered the HP Inspiron at first, that is until I went into the store and tried it out -- way too heavy, and I hated the trackpad! The Inspiron's trackpad has that "scratchy" type feel like nails on a chalkboard which was a total dealbreaker for me. This Spectre has a nice smooth trackpad by comparison. I found the Lenovo laptops to have a cheap, plastic feel which did not impress me. The Acer brand wasn't bad as far as feel/look goes, but I read bad reviews about that brand. With other HP models, I thought the Pavilion looked nice but too small at 13" and I absolutely hated the HP Envy which seems to have very sharp edging all the way around the base. Overall, this Spectre X360 15" model has every feature that I needed at a minimum. To get everything I wanted, I had to bump up my price range from $800 to this $1,200 Spectre (on sale for $200 off was $1150 before tax). Bottom line: It was the only way to have the specs/design AND have the SSD.

I got this computer about 2 months ago and I am so pleased with It I decided to leave it a review. This is without a doubt the nicest computer I've ever owned. Its aesthetics and performance are both top notch. With the solid state hard drive this baby boots up in about 10 seconds. On top of that it basically can turn into a high performance 15 inch monster tablet. It comes with windows 10 which is in my opinion the best operating system windows has come out with yet. Its also one of the prettiest computers I've ever seen, I think it even has macs beat in that department. If this computer is in your price range, I highly recommend it. P.S. This computer is perfect for students! With Microsoft OneNote (not included) I use it to take all of my class notes and Its very easy to keep all of my school info organized which has always been an issue for me. Because this computer is touch screen I can draw any sort of figures and symbols I need and also keep up with lectures easier by typing out notes .
