    3 Defective HP Spectre's x 360 in a week!

I have been a satisfied HP user for years, but the HP Spectre x 360 convertible 4K was a huge disappointment. I had been excited about purchasing the computer, but when I got it home, I quickly found the new machine had issues. It would not install software from a disk (error messages "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 redistributable package ATL security package (x86) install was unsuccessful" was one of the errors I received), the mouse pad was unresponsive at times, and the screen would freeze when searching the web. I was disappointed, but sometimes you get a bad machine, so I took it back to Bestbuy and swapped it out for another HP Spectre x 360 with no hassle. I went home with the second machine and set it up - SAME ISSUES! I contacted HP Support and after two hours, I was told it was a software problem not a HP problem. I contacted Microsoft Support, and after an hour and a half, the tech got the software loaded (after doing something to the operating system, which the tech said was the problem). All good, or so I thought, but the operating system fix did nothing to resolve the hit and miss responsiveness of the mouse pad and the screen freezing up on the web, nor did it resolve future error messages when attempting to install a software program from a disk. Therefore, I went back to Bestbuy, and since they didn't know what the problem was, I took my third HP Spectre home hoping it would be the one without any problems. At home, I booted the new machine up and almost immediately the same problems occurred for the third time. So, back to Bestbuy where an extremely helpful employee spent at least an hour with me trying to understand what was going on with these machines. I was thinking maybe I had done something wrong, but when the guy at Bestbuy tried his hand at the machine, he received the same error messages and concluded I needed to get another computer - a fourth computer. For me, that was strike three against the HP Spectre, so disappointed in a brand I had felt comfortable with for many years, I decided it was time to look at another brand. The HP Spectre is a beautiful machine and super fast, but I had three in a row in less than a week and each one of them not only had problems but the same problems. This was my dream machine, but sometimes dreams are just not intended to become reality; very disappointed. I can understand sometimes getting a defective computer, but what are the odds of having three in row with the same identical issues. The only conclusion I can come to is there is a problem with this whole line of computers. I hate to say this, but my experience with the HP Spectre was not good; not even close. That is a shame since HP was in my opinion at one time the best of the best. I'll start shopping again, but as much as I hate it, I will be looking at Lenovo or Dell instead of HP. BEWARE of the HP Spectre. On the positive, side the help I received from the folks at Bestbuy was outstanding.

It's a great laptop I really enjoy using it. But the only thing I don't like about it was the log in portion, I couldn't imagine how "Windows Hello" is not compatible in this nice laptop with this kind of professional quality. Windows Hello even worked with my previous Dell which was a few year old . I wasn't going to return it,because I bought this for my son as gift so he doesn't like it just because of not having the log in flexibility.

    Very glitchy

I bought this laptop for graduate school and I was less than unimpressed. The laptop I received functioned like my 15 year old dell in the basement; struggled with loading pages, was hardly able to load videos, constantly froze, and started overheating on a dime. I discovered I wasn't the only one experiencing strange, unacceptable issues with a brand new laptop. Online reviews are hit or miss for this product, and the rep I spoke to informed me that they see lots of issue with this model. I took it in and got it swapped for a new Asus which is soon to arrive. I'm staying away from HP from now on, unacceptable.

I bought it for its 16 GB RAM. However this laptop has a few major issues: 1. The screen constantly blacks out then you get the error message "Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered". 2. WIFI stops working once in a while. I know it is the laptop and not the network because it never happens on other devices. HP Support has been unable to fix these issues. They initially said intel drivers need to be updated. When they checked, the laptop had the very latest drivers. I am already past 14 days and can't return it to Best Buy. I hope HP will take it. So much pain after spending all that money. Hopefully this will help someone.

I purchased this laptop when it was on sale for $999.00 so I hit a good deal compare to the original price but I had to exchange it for three times and I finally gave up and returned it for good! The first one was a defect so it had several issues and it was sent back to the factory ! The second one the space bar was brocken and it wouldn't work also some times when I turned it on I only saw black screen and I had to turn it off and back on a few times for it to work so I thought I give a third one a try the Third one the noise was muffled sometimes and It would heat up crazy so I knew that If I exchange this one and the 4th one has issues too best buy will not give my money back and to lose a 1000 dollars no wayyyy so I gave up!! HP has this way highly priced yet they don't care enough to make this with no problems and issues so unless this is priced around 700 box I would not even look at the direction of this machine! The day I returned my last one another customer was returning his exact model!!! Anyways, my first time trying HP was such a disappointment! I hope this review helps someone!

The best feature of this product is that it turns into a table and is light weight. The memory and speed is poor. Bluetooth continues to shut off and i have to restart. I have taken this machine to the geek desk 2 times and online support 2 times. Nothing has changed. They have reset items and I still have no speed and other problems. The screen cracked 2 months into getting it. I had it in a carry case and never dropped it. It looks like a pressure crack. If you buy one get the coverage package at the top level!!!!! Don't plan on doing much with this other than looking around.

    Cracked screen, broken fan

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Was looking for a top end laptop with a SSD and have always supported and enjoyed my hp devices (2 different Envy laptops and printers). After a few weeks I noticed the fan was very loud and some apps were running sluggish. I took it back to Best Buy and they were able to swap it out for a new one. The fan on the new one was quieter and all was going well until two months later, I started getting phantom screen clicks. After a few days I noticed a large crack running most of the way across the screen. There were never any drops or anything placed on top of the laptop, it was basically a desktop as I never really took the computer out of the house. After speaking with HP support they informed me the cost of repair would be $700. The computer is now basically worthless as I can't use the track pad, touchscreen or mouse, the phantom clicks take over the laptop. Extremely disappointed in HP and will never buy another product from them. There are plenty of similar stories out there on this computer, wish I had listened to them before purchasing. I have not had a chance to speak directly with Best Buy yet, I am hoping there is something they can do to help.

    Good laptop, lousy windows 10!

After having the laptop for nearly 36 hours, I have been on HP support, ISP support and Geek Squad trying to get the laptop up to date, all drivers updated and trying to figure out why it's running so slowly. Short answer is the darned Windows 10 Anniversary update which did not come pre-loaded (no surprise there) and an older router designed for Win7 which I use on my desktop. Specifically bought a Win7 Asus desktop computer a couple of months ago because I find the operating system to perform well and didn't like all the Win10 cons. Now, 5 hours into the Win10 Anniversary update, I'm 15% complete - it's a pain in the butt. I debated long and hard about buying a similar MacBook Pro, and to save $1K I decided to go with the Spectre. Disappointed, yes -- and I still may return the darn thing just to get an OS that doesn't require all driver updates and constant required Win10 updates. Had to purchase a new router that is backwards compatible just to try and speed things up. Go with a MacBook Pro - just easier to get off and running!

    The worst

Had it 7 months when it crashed. I took it to the Geek Squad. They couldn't fix it so they sent it back to HP. They supposedly 'fixed' it, sent it back and it still didn't work. I called to try to get a refund or a least a credit towards another computer. They promised to call me back within 2 days for a resolution. A week later they have closed the account, never having even called me back. What a waste of $1000+. They won't even stand behind their products that are under warranty. I wouldn't trust them for a second.

Please look at issues with screen cracking on this product before purchasing. My screen cracked after 6 months with product. HP product groups show this to be a prevalent problem with this model

    Screen Wobbles

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The two hinges are not strong enough to support a 15.6" screen. The screen wobbles when you type or even touch the laptop. I guess HP needs to use one wide hinge (like MacBook Pro and Samsung Notebook 7) to avoid this problem in future models.

    Screen Cracks Without Abuse

I loved this computer for the first 2 and half months I've owned it, however, one day after just opening my laptop the screen cracked from the upper left corner. I went HP support and found that they have flex issues with the screen based on customer postings. There were 5 pages of customers who had experienced the same problem. HP advised that since it was physical damage it was not covered under warranty and the best price they could give me for repair was $715. I own two HP laptops and internally they performed well. I can't believe that their response after seeing how many screens have cracked is to charge $715 for the repair.
