Customers often highlight the responsive touch screen, strong performance, and lightweight design of the Spectre x360 2-in-1 laptop. Positive feedback also frequently mentions the long battery life and fast SSD. However, some users note that the laptop can get warm during use and that the fan can be noisy at times. The relatively high price point is also a recurring concern for some customers.

Prettiest laptop I've ever owned

Must Buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At this time I have purchased this computer for 1499.99. For the specs at that price you really can't complain. Speakers are amazing for a laptop and track pad is really responsive. This computer basically has identical specs to the 15.6 Macbook pro with touch bar that cost about 3000. For half that price for this HP with those specs and a 4K display, you really can't go wrong. Computer is fast and sturdy due to it's aluminum chassis. This really is a luxury computer in the PC world in my opinion. However I only have one complaint about this laptop which is the screen. Its a little hard to open especially with just one hand. But other than that, this truly is an amazing computer for the price you pay for the specs. Best PC I have owned in years.

A Very Pretty Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lasted me about 4 years until the battery decided to start expanding, so I had to move on to a newer machine. We had a good run, though. The pen is pretty useless, but it was nice that it matched. Speakers very nice.

Excellent laptop but with one annoying flaw
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are a lot of reviews on this laptop that go into much detail so I'm not going to repeat the same information here. I'm simply going to describe one annoyance that I have with this laptop: The USB-C based power adapter walks loose from the computer constantly. If the laptop is sitting still on a desk, then the AC adapter is just fine. However, if you pick up the laptop and use it on your lap, every slight movement of the laptop jiggles the connector just a little bit and within a few minutes the connector walks out far enough that the laptop will no longer be charging. Note too that the connector does not have to come out far. It only has to come out less than the width of .5mm pencil lead before charging will stop. At first I thought that this must simply be a limitation or the normal behavior of a USB-C connector. However, today I had the need to plug a thumb drive into one of the USB-C ports. To do so, I had to plug in a cheap $4 USB-C to USB-A adapter and I was surprised to find that this cheap little adapter clicked into the USB-C port with a nice solid "click". Clearly, this adapter was not going to walk loose like the HP AC adapter connector does. So here is the quandary: Do I simply have a bad connector on my AC adapter, or is HP simply using a not so high quality connector on their AC adapters? I have only seen one other person comment on this in their review, so if anyone else wants to comment on my review and let me know if they see the same issue I would certainly appreciate it. I'm hoping that I simply have a problematic AC adapter and that my experience is not what everyone is seeing. Other than this one tiny annoyance, I am absolutely loving this laptop.

Its alright
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did not meet my expectations. Was expecting a 5-star device but it deserves 3, not because of the looks but because of the cons which I listed below along with some pros. Got this hoping to be a fast & portable business laptop, mostly doing stuff in Adobe's CC suite such as Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, etc.. all that good stuff. But the dual core just can't really catch up, if only it was a quad core, now that will give this an extra star. Meaning, do be wary that rendering / exporting 4k media will sometimes lag or freeze the program & start to overload the laptop so be patient with it. The main reason I bought this laptop was the display & the appearance of the laptop. It is very nice, being a designer, I take looks & attention to detail very high priority when buying anything, Also let me say, it's very premium with the gold & dark ash color combo & the aluminum chassis makes it sturdy, even the box was amazing (I'm for sure keeping the box) I really love the new HP logo on this & the S P E C T R E lettering on it is minimal & beautiful. Expect to turn heads with this one. Now let me break this done for you so you can decide whether it's a right fit for you ( if the cons don't bother you go ahead & get it, you will surely love it! ) Keyboard: CON - the keyboard has fewer keys than an average keyboard ( no delete keys on sides, etc..) so it took time to get used to CON - backlight on the keyboard is not customizable CON - my old laptop had a hotkey to turn off the screen only ( was good for privacy ) PRO- nice spacing, smoothness & travel Connections: CON- like any new ultrabook you only get 1 USB .0 slot PRO- 2 USB C slots PRO - Fast HDMI & SD card slots CON - Audio jack doesn't produce sound good for bass Software (Windows 10): CON- "unlock with a smile" doesn't work at all, it has only unlocked my laptop once with my face even when tried in different lighting PRO- its windows 10, still better than mac os ;) Display: CON - Since most programs & software are targeted at HD 1080p, & this being a 4k UHD display, everything looks small (icons, etc..) PRO - ITS A FREAKING 4K DISPLAY! It's beautiful & the small bezels make it so much better! Perfect for editing my 4k images Camera: Seems decent with nice wide angle, should be a little more HD though because you know... the display is 4k after all Speakers: PRO - Decent loud sound & points at you CON- At max volume it sounds bit muffled / static PRO- Bass is actually decent for integrated speakers Battery: PRO- charging is fast thanks to the USB C PRO - battery lasts a long time, gets me through the day when max charged ( at low to medium brightness, doing casual design work ) Touchscreen: (not really a big fan of touch laptops because it adds extra weight/ bulk & pricing, however...) PRO- It's actually pretty fast & it doesn't seem heavy & bulky compared to my friend's dell touch laptop CON - Windows still needs to improve touch functionality in their software PRO - Pinch to zoom in & out is nice (doesn't work in all programs, such as folders) CON- Sometimes when holding it or moving the laptop I accidentally touch the screen & it moves or closes something I had open... "360" aka tablet mode: PRO- Nice to design with PRO- Easy to adjust screen position to one's liking CON - Too big & heavy to hold like a real tablet Final thoughts: I still think it's very good but wished it was a quad core, for the price its alright, it is still better than a mac! If you need strong power for gaming this obviously won't cut it for you, but if you need this for work and or using Adobe CC programs it will be perfect especially the bonus of being able to use a stylus, but remember to be patient when exporting big 4k resolution files.

Fan & Other Odd Problems - Including Warranty Issu
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first purchased this computer, I loved it. A bigger alternative to my Surface Pro but much cheaper than a Surface Book. However, an odd assortment of problems started to surface with the navigation within a short time. But the kicker - and why I'm rating this computer 1 star - is the fan makes a horribly loud noise. Sometimes for hours. My business is on my laptop so it's not easy to just give it Geek Squad and live without it for a week. When I inquired about my service contract, I learned the fan wasn't covered by Geek Squad. They would need to ship it to the manufacturer - and not return it for 3 weeks. So, I'm now in the process of moving all my data to a new Dell I purchased from the Microsoft Store. The reason I moved to the new supplier is Microsoft offers much better warranty protection. If the laptop fails for any reason, I can get a a new laptop (or similar model) after paying a $79 or $99 deductible that same day. Unfortunately, this purchase has made me lose faith in HP products and also Best Buy warranty protection.

Has Issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decent laptop after working the initial kinks out. This brief review is after one month of ownership. My first reboot after the initial startup and configuration resulted in weird hard disk errors that required me to go into the BIOS and reboot from there. After updating graphics drivers, the hard disk errors disappeared, but the laptop would randomly freeze, requiring me to do a hard reset to get back into Windows 10. After other driver updates through HP Support Assistant along with Windows 10 updates, the random freezing disappeared, but mouse cursor freezing issues remained. The cursor randomly freezes, sometimes taking 5-10 seconds to act normal again. Lots of research on the web indicates that this is not an uncommon issue and that HP should be aware of it. In fact even HP Support Assistant was having issues, although a recent update to that program seems to have fixed it. I guess my bottom line is that every issue seems to have had a cure, however why should there be issues at all? This is a $1,500 laptop that should be quality controlled up front, without these ridiculous issues. I install dozens of new computers every year, and this one was by far the most finicky. While I would recommend this laptop to someone who has some technical expertise to troubleshoot and repair, I believe the average Joe, at least from what I experienced, who be significantly frustrated in getting this laptop going. Feature-wise, this laptop rocks. But basic functionality like trackpads, graphics, and even HP's own trouble-shooting Support Assistant software should work right out of the box. For that reason alone, I am not recommending this laptop to a friend. One final thought - the 4k high-def display is incredible, however certain programs (like QuickBooks, for instance) simply render too small. This isn't just an HP issue, but any manufacturer with a 4k display will experience this issue. I guess that is the cost of adapting new technology - software is playing catch-up.

Great 4K display
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a college student I wanted something portable yet fast especially as I always have multiple tabs open. This computer doesn't disappoint it is reasonably mobile and sturdy and has a smooth core i7 that works great for all my multi tasking.

"APPLE KILLER"
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Read in a recent review on line that this computer wad dubbed the Apple Killer, I believe it. This laptop is first class all the way. I have owned apple in the past but now back to Windows and glad I did. Everything you could want and do in a laptop is on the machine. AWESOME display, super quick, beautiful case and design and half the cost of an apple 15". Give this one a try guys, you won't regret it.

2nd one is awesome!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought my first one and was very dismayed to find that the touchpad would intermittently stop working. It would freeze while I was moving it then jump to random spots. Best Buy being the awesome store that they are let me exchange my defective x360 (Model Number: 15-BL012DX) for a different one without any hassle. The second Spectre x360 is awesome, the screen is brilliant, the computer's fast, lightweight, comes with a stylus and leather carrying case, and looks great.

Maybe I got a dud
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm willing to accept that maybe I just got a dud and hopefully HP will replace it because I've had the laptop too long to return it to HP. The trackpad is pretty unresponsive. Two finger scrolling is inconsistent. The trackpad is generally very slow and since it's so big you have to reach very far to the right to right click. Often when I want to right click it registers a left click. The laptop gets very hot and loud under minimal load. The charger stopped working after a few weeks, but HP did replace it. I can type in my password faster than Windows Hello can recognize me. On the positive side, the laptop is beautiful, the screen is great, construction seems feels solid, and I enjoy the keyboard. I think what I mentioned before likely speaks to the quality of the laptop and probably would be similar for others. The remainder of the review applies to my specific unit and my experience with HP support. I'm totally willing to accept that it might be just my unit that slipped past quality control. And look, tech support is never a joy. My laptop is frequently getting very hot. I believe it started with the HP Support Framework eating up tons of resources and maxing out the processor. I think that because the laptop was getting so hot, it caused hardware issues. When doing basic tasks like browsing the web and opening new tabs, I get short freezes, or all the windows turn black. Audio is occasionally garbled, and wifi is frequently dropping. I have had two HP Chat sessions and have not been able to solve my issues. I was told several weeks ago that someone from their escalation department would call within 24-48 hours. I went through the Web Chat Support process again and was told again someone would call, still no call. HP did send a package for me to send the laptop in for repairs, but given that it is a new laptop and one of the top of their line, I am hoping to just get the notebook replaced. I use it for work and it would put me in a tough spot to be without a laptop while it's in for repairs.

Spot On Machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thoroughly enjoy this laptop. It is of great build quality, great screen resolution (though not as good as the Lenovo Yoga 910), and good keyboard. I love the pen is included with the package and not a separate buy like Apple products. The Iris Scanner is good as well. I absolutely love the color and overall look of the machine.

Nice laptop, lousy touchpad
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great laptop if you need the screen size, which I do. However, the Touchpad stinks. The responses, regardless of the setting are herky-jerky. if you are going to buy this laptop, resign yourself to using a mouse.

Even my nontech wife could use it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It took a little work on my part to configure but works great. Camera recognition by Windows Hello was very fast as was fingerprint recognition. Sound was also very nice. Would strongly recommend this laptop even if it is a bit expensive.

Almost everything I was looking for
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall it is a really great laptop but giving me too many issues. Pros: -Great screen -Great speakers -Great multitasking -Great keyboard spacing Cons: -Have to adjust to smaller icons on some applications due to 4K but that's isn't a deal breaker. -THE LAPTOP FREEZES UNEXPECTEDLY. My pointer will lag and jump around and text will not appear when pointer is freezing/lagging/jumping. It's a great product in theory but it cost way too much to freeze when running basic applications, which is a basic feature any laptop should be able to keep up with. I am on my second HP Spectre x360 and will probably be returning this one as well. Has anyone else experienced these issues?

I wanted to love it...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked great out of the box with easy set up. Screen resolution is fabulous and love the touch screen capability. I could easily see dropping the mouse use and using the touch screen only. The issues that caused me to return this laptop: The screen bounces when you use the touch screen. I purchased this mostly for photo editing and found the feature useful. Thought I could live with the bounce but I found myself holding the back of the screen so it would not bounce when using the touchscreen. I downloaded a few applications and when I restarted, the unit took 8 minutes from sign on to ready to perform. I did this several times but still took 8 minutes every time. My old laptop from 2011 and with 1/4 the RAM and lots more junk in the system, takes less time than this thing to restart. I wanted to love it but back it goes.

Great Computer with One Fatal Flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is sweet. Awesome keyboard, trackpad gets some getting use too, included stylus works well for the most part, and the screen is gorgeous... when working. The 15" Spectre x360 has issues however with a flashing and blacking out screen. About every 15 to 30 minutes, the screen will black out and flash in patches for about 30 seconds to a minute. This is unbearable and HP has known about the issue for over 4 months now... There have been no reports of this on the smaller 13" version though. I plan on switching to that one soon.
