Lots of Money for a Noisy Laptop

Nice Computer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The computer is very peppy and responsive, no delays. It feels solidly built Great battery life. After 2 hours use battery is still around 90%. Downgraded due to the mouse pad, it does not have separate buttons, have to click in the corner but clicking often move the mouse pointer. I use the touch screen more than the mouse. Also when you flip to tablet mode and rotate it to a portrait position the screen orientation does not switch automatically, has to be switched manually. Could also use additional USB ports but I knew that going in so I bought a USB-C hub. Overall I would recommend it.

Disappointing
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At first I was impressed with this beautiful and sleek computer. That changed as soon as one of the speakers stopped working. HP's solution is to reboot it. This is inconvenient to do every time it happens, which is too many. For the price of this piece of equipment, it should work! I regret walking into Best Buy.

Another bad experience from HP

Great once you get it working
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Good: The 360 touch screen is crisp and responsive. It comes with a nice sleeve and the stylus. Windows 10 is much smarter than any other version. It’s lightweight, beautiful, and can run beefy programs like the adobe suite and SolidWorks/creo/autoCAD. HP Spectre has its own tech support line (you’ll probably need it). The bad: You will need to spend 1-3 hours downloading HP drivers before you get to use it. If like me you think, meh it can’t be that important. You may find yourself on calling tech support and facing a black screen within 30 minutes. The 12-ish drivers HP didn’t bother to install range from the system that allows you to back up your computer to Bluetooth. You have to download those off the HP website. You’ll have to check that same site periodically throughout the lifetime of the computer. The HP support assistant (an app on the computer) only notifies you of the “critical” driver updates. There doesn’t seem to be an automatic way of tracking if your drivers are up to date if they aren’t deemed “critical.” In comparison to windows 10 daily automatic updates/checks for updates, this seems clunky. Additional downside, the fan seems to be loud and ineffective. ———— If you can brave the pain of setting it up, you’ll love it. If you’re looking for something you can used right away, look elsewhere.

Excellent Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Spent a solid 3 weeks researching (laptops, towers, all in ones) and visiting electronic stores to test different products. Eventually, I narrowed down my choices to the HP Spectre x360, the Dell XPS, and the Macbook Pro 13. For the specs offered, and at the price point I received the Spectre for, it was no comparison. The Spectre is extremely fast, the 4k screen is amazing, and the build of the casing screams quality. Upon setting up the laptop I ran into some issues that almost caused me to return the product for the Macbook. I believe this was a Windows issue (freezing/lock ups, windows hello malfunction), and HP helped me resolve the issue by doing a clean install. I havent had any issues since and HP was very helpful. The reviews about the fan being loud and the coil whine are true. The fan hits about a 40db level of noise. In my experience the fan doesnt run as often as others. I streamed hours of Netflix yesterday and the fan didnt go on or get hot once. With music or tv in background you barely notice it. If you work in a quiet atmosphere this may bother you. For a laptop at this price you'd expect better, but from the research I conducted most lap tops make the same noises. (check youtube and see for yourself) I went ahead and purchased 3 years of HP care with this. If it doesnt break within the 3 years they refund your money. My only other complaint is the bronze color. The laptop is sleek but I'd prefer a silver or black. If you're on fence with this product I'd say buy it and test it yourself. You can refund after 15 days, but I'm confident in saying you'll love it... if you dont mind the occasional noises.

Very powerful laptop with lots of cool features.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop has exceeded my expectations. I am very impressed with its ability to power on and off seemingly instantly. The lightning fast speed is pretty consistent throughout (when browsing webpages, playing video games etc.). It has a ton of built in memory (solid slate) which is awesome too. Comes with Windows 10, so you can play Xbox games on it as well. I hook my Spectre up to a large monitor and plug in an Xbox controller and can use it to play all sorts of games (it even works with some pc games you have if they are also available on Xbox - like Overwatch/Destiny). It is very quiet, and can hang with just about any desktop at a fraction of the size and weight. Makes me wonder why I ever bothered with a desktop computer.

Great HP Spectre Laptop!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.HP - Spectre x360 2-in-1 15.6" 4K Ultra HD Touch-Screen Laptop - 8th Gen Intel Core i7 is just amazing! New on the market and no reviews as of yet before I purchased this system. Love it as a MacBook guy and use it for work and home. The one thing I had an issue is two boxes later of this system it didn’t come with the stylus but stated stylus is included. So check the box before leaving the store! Otherwise enjoy your new HP Spectre!!!

Fast, Faster, Fastest
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I originally purchased the envy model about a week ago, which I was pretty happy with (5 stars). The couple of things I was skeptical about where the mechanical drive and no dedicated graphics card. I'm so accustomed to how fast SSDs boot up know that I no longer have the patience for the slow boots (comparable) and long load times of certain heavy apps. All in all this laptop is exactly what the title states FAST!!! It is a noticeable improvement over the Envy 360 which was solid IMO. Also, pairs great with the Bamboo Ink in all apps (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator etc..) Pros: -Fast (SSD and 8th gen CPU) -Compact -Sleek -Screen is very responsive Con: -Runs a tad bit hot

peliminary review - absolutly great so far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is, I believe so far, the best laptop I have owned. It has great hardware, specs and performance. Start with pros: Great screen / display - colors, brightness, sharpness all good Large 16 GB ram - makes multitasking easy Discrete video - good for all but the most demanding games 512 GB SSD - much faster loading and accessing than mechanical drives Backlit keyboard - great for low light situations - slight bleed through on top row Reasonable sound from speakers The only cons I have noticed - and by no means a deal breaker : Fans do run often and can be heard as a soft whir Gets a bit warm in certain areas An issue doing an update - Microsoft issue. KB4093112. There is an new update to correct - do your research. Overall, this is a powerhouse by many standards, and will provide fast performance to all but the demanding gamer. Again, this is a preliminary review, and I will amend if I discover any plusses or minuses, but so far I am extremely pleased.

This Computer is the Best Bang for the Buck
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you wan't a reliable computer that is powerful, lightweight (under 5 lbs) and is going to last. This is the computer for you. I have 0 complaints with this machine. The SSD keeps it running fast no matter what you are doing. The graphics card allows for flawless speed while editing (adobe products) or even gaming (minor gaming like minecraft or fortnite, please don"t expect it to be a full on gaming computer). As a employee i have had many returns because the "fan runs too loud". This is not true, yes the fan runs but no more than it should. I mean come on, it has a graphics card, 4k screen and a i7 processor. If you are doing anything on it, its got a lot of power waiting to be unleashed, so of course the fan is gonna run when you start putting it to work. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Whether its casual use or heavy editing. Its gonna last.

Great Value -- Nice crisp machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Compared quite rigorously with Dell both XPS 13 and Latitude models, this is about $500 less than Dell machines comparably loaded (16 GB RAM, 528 GB SDD). Battery life excellent. Crisp display. Fast!

Beautiful laptop with terrible trackpad
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved this laptop's beautiful display, top notch build, aesthetics, but it has a terribly dysfunctional trackpad. Two-finger scrolling is shoddy. If you do a lot of quick scrolling 1) the mouse disappears while scrolling, and 2) it registers about 300ms of cursor movement as you start scrolling. This means that after several scrolling gestures your mouse pointer is no longer over the scrollable region, and scrolling stops. It also registers unwanted clicks during this process. Took it back, and observed the same behavior on the store demo. Other brands do not exhibit this behavior. The new 8th gen processor is fast, but only if you're plugged in. It locks the CPU down to like 50% while on battery. In fairness, this can be reconfigured and was not a contributing factor to the return. Thunderbolt 3 port won't drive 5k monitor, but worked for 4k via Thunderbolt 3 port.

Just Disappointments
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Build quality should not just be by how the laptop looks and feels on the outside. Build quality is also about the inside of a laptop. Like the motherboard, connecters, processor, type of ssd used, and things one cannot find out about until actually purchased. And of course, based on performance. This is my experience in search of hoping to get one that didn't have some kind of defect or serious issue. Pro's: 1. They all looked good in dark ash. 2. They all had a great keyboard 3. All came with 8th gen I7 8550U processor. Negatives: 1. All had some light-bleed/light-glow (one was so bad the top left screen looked like the sun just without the yellow. 2. Color accurracy was off on all except for one. 3. Three had loose usb type-C connecters, which are used for charging, or to connect adapters for ethernet, monitors, or thunderbolt docks. Loose connecters lead to premature wear and shortens the lifespan of the unit. 4. On 2 laptops, I experienced random blue screen freezes, when opening the "settings" window". 5. Only the 1st one came with a Samsung SSD! It was an early Oct build. All the rest had Toshiba SSD, no matter the batch, or build date. I was lead to believe from pro reviews that this Spectre model from BestBuy came with top of the line Samsung SSD. 6. Sound from speakers was not good, only one produced clear sound and provided some instrument separation, when listening to music. 7. All had had "coil whine!", when unplugged (not charging). However, coil whine was only audible in quiet settings and was of the "high pitch hum" variety. Sounds like faint ringing in the ear, which can be quite annoying. 8. Trackpads also need serious improvement. You can either softly tap on center of trackpad to single/double click, or press down firmly to left/right click, and in both scenarios the cursor would often jump off target causing either nothing to happen, or opening/performing an unintended command. Sometimes, when the cursor stayed put, and eventhough the computer sounded out my single, or double clicks, nothing would happen, and I found myself having to repeat my single, or double clicks more often than l would like to open applications. 9. Two had deformed bottoms, which caused one to rest on the table where the vent is located blocking any air from reaching the cooling fans. Since the feet were hardly touching the table I could not even open the lid with two hands because the laptop would slide so easily. One had a bent boottom, which caused the front left foot to not rest on the table also causing the laptop to slide back too easily. At this time, I CANNOT recommend this laptop! HP ?????

Speedy but Questionable Quality Control
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very fast computer with a sharp screen. However, it wasn't long before the screen image became less bright and also unstable after a few hours of usage. In addition, one of the two speakers stopped working.

It worked for just over 24 hours
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Gorgeous laptop! Wonderfully fast, loved the sound and the keyboard. I researched this purchase long and hard and was loving my new laptop, working on moving all my documents, iTunes music, etc. over from my old dying desktop. A mere 31 hours after I purchased it, I did a routine restart after loading some software and copying a bunch of iTunes stuff from the old computer, and it hung up while restarting Windows. Despite multiple attempts to open Task Manager and to cycle the power off in order to get the machine to respond, it is still hung up on the Windows Restart screen, just spinning, spinning, spinning...It's been four hours so far. So, I have a beautiful new $1500 doorstop. Too bad--I've owned several HP products in the past and they've performed wonderfully well. I really loved this laptop, but, sadly, it'll be going back to Best Buy tomorrow on my way to work. Good thing I still have my old desktop as a backup until I find something that will work.
