Absolutely amazing laptop. Exceeded my expectations. And want to say that Bestbuy's Price Match Guarantee is wonderful. Price dropped twice within a week of purchase and they made the adjustment without any questions. Very courteous customer service. I'll be back!

I looked at all the 2 in 1 computers and the salesman brought this one out for me to see. It was love at first sight, it's got the WOW factor for sure. I love it and would highly recommend to anyone. Just wish it came with the pen at Best Buy.

    limited functionality

I have the X360 15T112dx model number, purchased from Best Buy. The machine has many excellent features, and I bought this model because it was more forward looking than the Elite models that were available in November 2017. However, this laptop is not suitable for use both as a portable laptop and and a dock-coupled desktop computer. HP evidently decided that they would not enable full communication through the thunderbolt controller to non-HP branded docks in this model. Further, they do not make this model compatible with any HP-branded docks such as the HP Elite thunderbolt 3 dock. It seems to me that a $1500 machine should be capable of serving as a Display link source for more than a single monitor, accept power delivery, and actually be able to provide docks with usb 3 capability. HP has said nothing publicly about these deficits, even though the relevant forums are full of complaints and cries for help. Whether HP did not enable these functions in this model (although they do exist in some of the platform models) because of DRM issues or laziness, the end result is that I will not support HP in the future (Typed on my old Elitebook). So if you want a pretty, fast, carry around laptop, fine. If you want full functionality that appears to be offered in the package, not so much.

Too Noisy - Had to Return It

    Posted .

For a relatively expensive laptop with an SSD drive this thing was just too noisy. Loud buzzing, clicking, whirring sounds made it sound worse than a laptop with a mechanical hard disk. After 18 hours of ownership I contacted HP and they said it was "a problem with the motherboard" and that they could fix it. I passed on that offer since an 18-hour-old machine shouldn't have to be sent in for repair. If HP can identify the problem and say they can fix it based on my description, then they should be addressing this issue ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE! In doing some research online I discovered it's a fairly systemic issue with lots of people complaining about the same issue. My parents had just bought the same machine and in helping them set it up I noticed theirs was buzzing, too, but it didn't seem quite as loud (but we were in a louder environment and I only used it for 20 minutes). It was enough buzzing, though, to make me think every single one of them is going to buzz. Sadly, I took mine back for a refund. All I want is a QUIET laptop with latest gen i7, 16GB, 4K, dedicated video card, 15.6" screen, SSD-only. Is it really too much to ask?

So wanted to love this Laptop

I really wanted to love this computer. I originally got this laptop before Christmas and there was major heating issues. Running over 85 degrees Celsius for simple tasks such as google. I then returned this for another HP Spectre. The next one didn't have the heating issue but there was a nasty coil whine and this irritating clicking noise with the trackpad. When plugged in the coil whine disappeared, which is very odd. I returned this for another laptop. I really want to love this computer. it is absolutely amazing. But I am worried that if I get another HP Spectre, it will have the same issues that the previous two had. This is very disappointing for a laptop that costs ~$1500.

Every single aspect is just about as good as it gets here in 2018. Even though it makes weird computing sounds all the time.

    Unstable Screen

Screen cracked after 6 months. Buy accident protection! Never dropped. Just poor design. Check HP support forums to see how many people have reported this. When you spend over 2000 dollars on something, you expect it to last. I have been using HP computers for over 20 years and won't buy again. poor customer service. They will charge you 659 plus tax to repair. Touch screen is now useless. Look elsewhere for a more durable computer

    Coil Whine - AVOID

    Posted .

This laptop has (and has had) a documented history of coil whine. Basically, even if the fans aren't running, the laptop emits a light noise from the electronics components inside of it. This is present all the time, and sounds a bit like a CD drive accessing a CD or a hard drive accessing data from the drive, only a bit quieter, and it happens 24/7. In a loud environment it isn't that noticeable unless you put the laptop up to your ear. In a quiet room, it will slowly drive you insane. Absolutely unacceptable for a product of this price.

    Annoying whine

    Posted .

Just bought the 15.6" UHD i7 Spectre and I'm returning it tomorrow. There's an annoying whine coming from it. It's either coil whine or coming from the CPU. I don't recall noticing this in the first few days of use but maybe I started listening more closely after noticing the fan blowing loudly after a cold startup. Lots of people have complained about this and it appears that HP have known about this problem in their laptops for a while. They're hoping people just live with it or don't have the option to return it. Luckily, I'm still within my 15 day return window. After Dell and Samsung laptops, I was reluctant to buy HP, but I liked the specs on the Spectre. Bad choice. Stay well away.

    Loud and audio issues

Besides it just being an annoying loud fan, within days of getting this laptop I experienced issues with the audio. Intermittently instead of playing an audio file I would get a screech/static out of the right speaker (and it did it with my right earbud too!). I contacted HP to get this fixed - they couldn't help me unless I would send it in to get repairs - as a college music student I can't go without my laptop so I returned it for a refund to get another device. Horribly disappointed in this because it appeared to be a great laptop with good specs. 10/10 do not recommend.

Have had this unit for a week now. Toshiba M.2 SSD is slow and cannot be password protected. I expected more from a laptop of this price. Otherwise excellent.

    Poor quality build

This laptop was working fine until one hinge got messed up causing the screen to crack when trying to close it. Also the laptop itself the shape has deformed due to what I found out is battery swelling. Everything is out of warranty now and I would expect a $1500 laptop computer to last more than 4 years.

    Only lasted 2 years

We bought this laptop as it was "state of the art" and we believed it would last longer than a product of lesser value. The laptop stopped working in less than 2 years. HP support was horrible, and wanted up front payment for services prior to diagnosing the issue. I bought a Lenovo at the same time for my son, and it is running like a charm.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP. AFTER 15 MONTHS OF USE IT STOPPED WORKING BY ITSELF. THE MOTHERBOARD IS BURNT AND HP WILL FIX IT FOR +$700. DON'T BELIEVE ME PLS GOOGLE IT. I AM ONE OF THOUSANDS WITH THE SAME ISSUE.
