Overheats even when off
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is my second Spectre in a row, and I'm done with the brand. The case is flimsy and can barely hold its internals, and the device's lid sensor is completely unreliable. It will power itself on randomly while completely closed and untouched, then then start to overheat while sitting there doing nothing. You can't transport it without it turning itself on, cooking itself alive in its carrying case, and then having a dead battery 20 minutes later. Sleep and hibernate settings are completely unusable, and trying to use settings in Windows to override the cheap hardware does nothing. It's just an unforgivably bad laptop case and design, and way too much frustration for how much it costs.

I’ve taken it back to the store and no one could figure out what is wrong, I’ve contacted HP and no one could figure out what’s wrong! Computer runs DANGEROUSLY HOT, (too hot to put on my lap) it burns through power cords like they are butter, the battery life is a whole 20 MINUTES, if I am lucky, and it SHOCKS YOUR HAND when it gets hot and you touch ANYWHERE that’s metal!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS LAPTOP…… DO NOT BUY!!!! ***WARNING***

It has all of the options i needed for grad school, with the bonus of a 2 in 1 and keyboard num pad. I wish they made the new one like this. Minimal issues by 3 years old that were quick for geek squad to replace. It was damaged after repairs before i picked it up so it was ultimately returned. If it wasn't for that, I'd still have it. It holds up well and is the best ive had.

It made a spectacular first impression when I opened the box. The design is sleek, elegant, and luxe. The rose gold on the edges is so pretty! Beyond first impressions, here are the pros and cons that I've noticed over the past several months: Pros - Beautiful design - Sturdy - Fast and robust enough to handle more demanding programs like Photoshop and Blender - Excellent touch screen - Fingerprint scanner for biometric sign-in - Links up to my Samsung (!!!) - 2-in-1 transition is very smooth, yet the screen is never loose or floppy in any given position Cons - Heavier than my previous laptops have been - Tends to heat up quickly and fan can be a bit loud - Fingerprint scanner will occasionally stop working, requiring a reinstallation of the driver (no big deal, just a bit annoying) As a side note, I use this machine for programming, graphic design/digital drawing, writing, a tiny bit of 3D modeling, and watching lots of TV and movies. Overall, the pros of this beauty far outweigh the cons for me. I've recommended it to every person who has told me they're looking for a new laptop.
