This laptop is very good and gets the job done. It has touchscreen capabilities like a tablet, very fast browsing speeds, awesome at streaming digital content, good battery life, and is very slim and sleek compared to other bulky laptops on the market. The only problem that I have with this is that it lacks a CD disk drive. It's not a problem seeing that we're in the digital era where compact disks are becoming extinct, but it's very awkward. What if I wanted to watch a DVD? Well that's too bad, because you either have to stream the movie online, or hope that Youtube has it uploaded. The touch pad is also 100% responsive, and the right/left mouse clicker is built into it which reduces clutter around the main keyboard. There's also DTS studio sound for your external speakers that sounds pretty good. Overall, I'm loving and enjoying my laptop, but you've been warned.....No CD drive.

Light, Powerful, Great Battery Life for PricePoint

This laptop uses an Intel Atom N2840 "System on-a Chip", a similar high-level processor-technology to that used to make smart phones compact and battery efficient. (Cellphone processors typically use a different instruction set and different Operating System.) The positive about SoC's is fewer parts means better battery life, less heat. The negative in this case is the memory and storage limitations (2GB RAM VS the 4GB in most laptops, and 32GB eSSD VS 1TB spinning disk). Also, the memory and disk are built-in to the processor chip, so not replaceable, not upgradable. Another significant aspect of the N2840 is that it is a 64-bit processor(the only 64-bit Atom so far). This means that 64-bit versions of applications, and 64-bit Java browser add-ons will also work, you are not limited to 32-bit versions if available. Others have commented about disk space limitations. I had about 4-6GB usable initially, and closer to 10GB after upgrading to Windows/10 (free until July 2016) and following procedures to clean up Windows/8, findable with a web search for increasing storage space on net books. A 32-64GB SD card can be inserted into the built-in SD slot (get class 10 card) and designated for documents, downloads and media, giving plenty of space. The touch screen adds about 1lb to the weight of this laptop and is not really necessary once upgraded to Windows/10. The hard glass of touch screens seems slightly more breakable than more flexible non-touch screens, but provide a more immersive video experience. The bright color makes it much more unique and identifiable, which I feel makes it a less likely target for theft. I also love the quiet no-fan design. Great for travel, only light laptop & power adapter & USB phone charge cable = less techno-junk to carry. I'd recommend several free programs as add-ons. DVDfab & Handbrake for movie lovers, Media Monkey & Audacity for music lovers. VideoLan's VLC for excellent playback compatibility. And Apache Open Office for free, compact, compatible word processing, presentation and spreadsheet. Windows/10 provides Print-to-PDF-file capability.

This is well worth the $279 price tag. This is faster than your average discount laptop. The clarity of the screen coupled with the chicklet keyboard only make this touchscreen laptop even more of a joy to use. Does not overheat, is not heavy and with substantial slots is ready for anything you give it. SD slot, usb slots and and HDMI port.Has easily become my only go to PC.

Fantastic Value for a Competent Device

I bought the HP Stream 13.3" laptop for my wife after seriously considering available Chromebooks and some mini-laptops. I was hesitant, but she (and thus, I) am extremely pleased with the device. Great price, stylish and practical design (not to mention the free year of Office 365, etc.) make this basically a no-brainer for someone looking for a basic laptop for everyday use that doesn't look like something out of the bargain bin. Boot time is excellent, as befits a Windows 8 with a SSD. More importantly, the laptop can go to "sleep" and pop back up almost instantaneously. Battery life wasn't super important for us, as my wife doesn't generally ever use it outside of home, but it is completely adequate in the 5-7 hour range. To my surprise, my wife LOVES the touchscreen and uses it a lot and prefers it to the our tablets (iPad and Android) even if there's a longer reach to use it. The chiclet keyboard is excellent - well spaced, nice feel and for less than $300, who is going to complain about a lack of backlight? My wife is an extremely adept typist and says she prefers this keyboard to any laptop she has used. The screen looks great though yes, the viewing angle isn't that great - but it's a laptop - how often are you on the edges looking at it? The display is bright and crisp...would be great to have full 1920X1080, but again, at the price and with a 13" screen, you're not really missing anything. And one has to mention the style factor....it's not flashy, per se, but the blue case and gradated color scheme on the interior has caught the eye of almost all our friends who have seen it. It's nice to see some panache on laptop at this price point. Weight is a touch on the high side in my opinion, but it's still light and portable.and my wife, having used smaller, lighter laptops, likes that it has just a little bit of heft, she thinks it seats more firmly in her lap and doesn't feel like it's going to "fly away." If you are in need of a "budget" laptop and are willing to sacrifice things like local storage space, I could not recommend this laptop enough. Between the free year of cloud storage and the cheap addition of removable media, you have an extremely competent web-surfer/MS-Office-wielding/video streaming/quick and fun laptop with plenty of USB ports and an excellent touchscreen for less than $300. I truly think this is one of the best bang-for-the-buck laptops I've encountered in years.

I am loving this laptop so far! It's super fast, really nice looking, and it works great! Love the fact that it's touch screen and I haven't stopped using it since I got it! I only use it to surf the web and write essays, just the basics for a regular laptop, and it fulfills my needs! Thank you hp for this great laptop! Thumbs up :)))

This laptop is super cheap for a reason. It processed everything so slowly it was like using dial up. We ended up returning this after having it less than two weeks. It was more of a hassle than its worth.

A nice product for tne price. Managed to download Windows 10 and MS Office 365. I expected the Stream to run slower after the downloads but overall, the speed surprised me. Videos run fine and browsing is smooth. The touch screen is a great feature at this price point. Would highly recommend for those on a budget and looking for just the basics .

I purchased this for my husband who is definitely not a tech savvy person at all! In the past, I always relied upon the Geek Squad to come to my home to properly connect items such as a PC and laptops but in this case I decided to try to connect it on my own. I surprised myself by accomplishing the task without any outside help! And even better, my husband chose to end his Internet days so I adopted the Stream for myself. I've got to say, I really like it. I have no plans to upgrade to Windows 10 as I'm comfortable with 8.1. But I would say it's worth a try. And the price is definitely right!

This laptop is a great product for the money. IF you have done your research, and you know what you're buying, I see no reason you will not be pleased with this item. It is not designed to be a powerhouse daily driver of all your software, photos, games, music, and video. It is however, the perfect daily driver for all your Microsoft Office needs, web browsing/research, and school work. I use this for my College courses and it is exactly what I hoped it was. Very low memory capacity, and not a top of the line processor or screen, but the screen looks perfectly fine to me even compared to my UHD smartphone. The processor is plenty powerful for the basics, and the memory isn't a huge issue if you're willing to use cloud storage or purchase expandable storage to utilize the USB ports or the SD slot.

Revised review: Windows bloat eats up drive space.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

WinSxS bloat eats available drive space. The Windows folder keeps growing and growing...this is actually normal for Windows. Problem: the system only has 32 GB of disk space (similar to an SSD, not a mechanical hard disk)..after just a few weeks, Windows/WinSxS grew to almost 10 GB, Windows used 17 GB, was down to 1 GB left at one point. The system had only Office 365 and a few tiny apps installed. Used DISM.exe and the Task Scheduler to attempt to shrink WinSxS.. Used Windows Cleanup running as Administrator too: I knocked off a couple of gigs, but I ended up having to run HP recovery to do a full reinstall. I have two of these Hp Stream Notebook 13 C002dx systems purchased over the last few weeks..both suffer severely from Windows bloat. An HP tech suggested a recovery CD, will try that when it arrives (will have to buy a portable CD drive if I can't network install from my desktop PCs). I haven't given up though: will try Linux or Windows 10 if I can't fix the vanishing drive issue. These systems are still sort of usable, you just won't be able to add many apps. If HP had designed these with 64GB disk space instead of 32, all would have been well. I can clean Windows for a while, but the bloat soon takes over. Manual deletion of the WinSxS folder or its files is not recommended: you'll break the OS. Many other users seem to have this issue as well as I checked for a solution online. With this system, the user starts out with 21 GB, not 32, because a third of the drive is recovery software. Windows eats most of the rest. That leaves the system seriously crippled even for minimal usage requirements. Attempts to take ownership over the Windows/WinSxS folder were defeated by the system..TrustedInstaller interferes with DISM.exe, et cetera. On the positive side, I think HP did a good job on the hardware build. Sound was a problem at first with lots of distortion but a BIOS upgrade and a switch to Windows drivers seemed to clean it up mostly. The system can run Office 365, but , as I mentioned above, when you're down to your last gigabyte, the system will soon come to a grinding halt. I very much wanted to like these, but the Windows bloat issue turned a working system into a brick. Ran Ubuntu 14.04 from a USB stick: had to set the BIOS to legacy. Ran into wireless problems and Flash issues but others with these issues say that these are fixed with 14.10. If Windows 10 doesn't cure the bloat issue, I'll toss Windows for Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Still working to get these to work...

Touch screen is great, boots quick, wi-fi connects flawlessly, fast on Office and internet applications, battery life is very good. What's not to like? A year of Office 365 included. Plus, it's a really cool blue color. Internal memory is not great but that is no secret and a 64 GB microSD card fits flush into slot and fixes that. I really love this little computer!

This computer does the basics and it is better than a Chromebook because it has windows. However, it has some things that I do not like, like for example, the mouse pad which feels cheap and it is oversensitive. Just by sliding a finger to the side, it will take you to other sites and you get lost. Other things to concider -The batery cannot be replaced, so when it dies you will have to get a new computer. -No CD unit. -No room to store pics or videos. -The camera sucks. -The keyboard sucks. -The mouse pad sucks. Like people say, you get what you pay for!

I recently purchased this laptop and I have yet to have any complaints about it. It's super light, a beautiful color (if you love blue of course) and the keyboard is perfect. The mouse is similar to that of a Mac which is great for a computer that is so inexpensive. Also, the touch screen is a plus! The only downside of this laptop would be the fact that it comes with only 20GB of memory but so far I have not had any problems playing and running the Sims 4 and also having multiple tabs up at once. It's perfect for anyone. Overall, good quality for the money.
