The RAM is upgradeable to 64 Gigabytes of DDR5-5600, which I personally decided to install the Corsair Vengeance series, with many sites and even Geek Squad saying 32GB max, which is simply false. So far so good. I ran into a minor BSOD issue, which the VRAM and GPU chip were not being recognized, but this was able to be resolved by updating the driver to the latest version (577.00 at time of writing). A little background for me includes working at IBM on server systems, systems testing, and scale management, along with working as a Managed Service Provider (contracted IT), Cybersecurity Specialist, and Network Administrator. I know what I'm doing with machines, to say the least. I will update this review approximately 6 months from purchase, which was on July 11, 2025 and shipment received on July 12, 2025. This machine is quite good for the cost on sale ($649.99), especially considering you get a dedicated GPU (dGPU) with 6GB of VRAM. This is good for lower-mid level graphics work, which is what I will be using this for. I installed some upgraded RAM modules so that I can work with multiple large applications at once, however, the installed 16GB of HP branded RAM and the dGPU is sufficient for gaming on High Settings (definitely not Ultra) in many of the newer AAA games at reasonable FPS. This machine is good for students who might want to play some games to decompress after some studying, or business workers for a bit extra power for the more demanding tasks. I strongly urge anyone who wants to use this for business or gaming to upgrade the operating system to the Pro version, so that you have more granular control over what runs, efficiency, and various settings that aren't available in the Home/Student version that is pre-installed (you can find deals on this with some searching). So far this has handled video (at 1080p/120fps) and photo (at 3840×2160) editing and some work in Blender with ease, and not a whole lot of resource usage. For the less technical, this works quite well for Full HD video editing and very smooth motion, and 4K photo editing with high detail and color accuracy. Blender is used for animation work, which typically requires some precision to which this is capable of. It doesn't get hot, and it hasn't reached its potential maximum workload. I haven't put this through my full testing yet, so I will update with more detailed information later as previously mentioned. All in all, this seems to be a pretty good machine for the price I paid. HP was making some mistakes with their product quality for a while, but it seems they have corrected that recently. The build quality is pretty solid, which is a dense thermal resistant plastic. The internal cooling fans (there are 2 blower style) seemed to be pretty quiet when I hit 78% GPU load. When I took off the bottom plate to install the RAM modules, the components seemed quite well organized, particularly for cooling purposes. Now for the relatively bad news: The USB-C port is only USB-C 3.0, which is capable of 5 Gigabits per second max downstream transfer... I would hope for at least USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 or USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 for 10 Gbps, but it doesn't seem to be in most HP devices (at least not yet). I'm not expecting USB4 or Thunderbolt 3/4 in a lower cost machine, but some older standards should be reasonable enough in my opinion, which it is sadly lacking. The Type-A ports are both 3.0, so at least it's that much, but again, 3.1 would have been nice. As for the minor BSOD issue mentioned earlier, I'm calling that an NVIDIA/Win 11 issue, and not a machine issue since it was easily resolved with a driver update through the NVIDIA console. Now for the good news (because you don't get dessert without your veggies first): This machine is good for the money I paid and rather decent for the full retail cost of $899.99. It's capable of a reasonably high workload, even with the pre-installed 16 GB of RAM (2×8GB modules). It's fast enough for some reasonable gaming at 80-110 FPS for many newer games. This laptop works well. Starts up fast and does what a laptop should do. It's a gaming laptop (comes loaded with Omen Gaming Hub and has a dedicated button to get to it) but I don't use it for gaming purposes. I bought it thinking the current gaming specs would be the typical user specs a few years from now. I like the computer and would likely buy it again, but here are the things to consider (most of which are just different than my old laptop and not flaws. I should have done more research on these little things and not just the performance specs of the machine.): - the power button is on the same row as the function keys, above the Backspace key. I'm used to it being more stand alone and not mixed in with other keys and "hard" to find. - The keyboard backlight is either on or off; it does not power off after a period of inactivity like I had on an older laptop. -Volume is controlled with a combination of the FN key + the FN number; it is not controlled with a single button push like I would expect, especially with a gaming computer. - Has dedicated buttons for calculator, Co-Pilot and Omen gaming if you want to use them. - There is a whistle from the fan at times, usually when running hard. - Everything defaults to saving to OneDrive (which I know is a Windows thing and not a HP thing, but still annoying). I want documents, desktop and files saved locally, not in the cloud. - The power cord is slightly shorter than old laptop and the connection to the computer often bumps my knee when it is on my lap. - Oddly, I get more static shocks from this computer than any other I have had in the past. Getting on and off the fabric couch, I get a couple shocks every time.

This laptop is a powerhouse for the price (at the time) $700. It has proved worthy of all the games she can throw at it (albeit not AAA titles on ULTRA Settings) but it does the job. The main issue when I bought it for her was the storage size. I bought a 2TB external harddrive (I know kind of a pain but Uncle Shawn only has so much money) - but it all has been working wonderfully for her for about 7 months as of this posting. I would recommend this laptop if you can find it during a sale. Again, keep in mind about the storage capacity - otherwise it is a great machine!

i love gaming but i had to switch from desktop to laptop, due to work; but had to keep it under a budget.so i went from a RTX 3060 Ryzen 5 3600 desktop pc, to this laptop. i had my concerns moving from a 12GB VRAM GPU to a 6GB VRAM mobile GPU, but this works better than expected. be aware, this is a Ryzen 7 BUT it only has 6 cores 12 threads (just like Ryzen 5 processors), instead of 8 cores 16 threads which i consider the standard for ryzen 7. no issues so far, just feels like false advertising. now the good stuff, i didn't see a lot of reviews talking about gaming performance for this specific model, even if you can search videos online for similar laptops. COD black ops 6 multiplayer and zombies - 160+ fps Balanced, DLSS performance. Warzone - 115-130 fps Balanced, DLSS performance. Rocket league - didn't check for FPS, but it runs it nice and smoothly (not a demanding game). Fortnite - 150+ fps. basically esports titles and less demanding games will work great. for more demanding games, you have to work thru the settings to have the game look good. i tried Wuchang fallen feathers on high settings and had a lot of frozen screens (didn't check FPS), had to lower down settings and activate DLSS so i could play. haven't try another games but videos are online. watch out for temps if you are playing demanding games, the laptop gets hot around the middle/right side of the keyboard. planning on buying a cooling pad with fans, in the meantime i put something in the back so this thing can get fresh air. also think about changing the nvme ssd, 512GB will get full fast. 16GB ram will also need to be upgraded in the near future. Display looks great, colors are OK. - i had a IPS 120hz 1440p monitor on my desktop, so this is not a good upgrade for me, but gets the job done.

I'm thrilled that I found this open box deal. The graphics card runs my games with ease, and the system is smooth and easy to use. I appreciate how quickly I could integrate my phone and add my Bluetooth headphones. This is a great laptop for all around gaming, streaming, and web surfing. The screen is bright and clear, sound works well. I was surprised at the weight, but I don't carry it frequently so it will be okay. I do wish it had more memory, but memory comes at a price! This machine is what I could afford, and it does have room for expansion. I'm saving to upgrade the RAM and will get an external drive to add storage space.
