Great performance with excellent temperatures

This laptop has great hardware balance with a smart selection of cost-performance components, and there are no noticeable bottlenecks. The CPU/GPU performance and operating temperatures are excellent.
The overall quality is only slightly marred by the lackluster screen and small SSD size.
It's a great choice at sub $1000, but at $1400 there may be other potential worthwhile competitors.
CPU:
The CPU is an 8-core 16-threads Zen 4 processor, and it runs at 60W under 100% load and up to 65W for short bursts. This is a mid-range laptop CPU, and its multi-core performance is about half of the 32-thread laptop CPUs from Intel and AMD. Its single-core performance is also a little lower than the high end laptop CPUs. In Cinebench R24 the 8845HS' single-core performance is ~100 pts and multi-core is ~900 pts, compared to i9 13980HX's ~125 pts single-core and ~1750 pts multi-core. Considering the other components in this laptop, this CPU is perfectly serviceable and well balanced. Additionally, the temperatures are fantastic at around 70-75C under stress tests.
GPU:
This particular 4070 has a maximum 120W TDP as configured by HP. While some 4070 mobile GPUs can go up to 140W TDP, there are hardly any performance benefits post 100W, so having the TDP capped at 120W is a good decision. The GPU once again has great temperatures, running between 70-75C under full load. Overall, this is one of the coolest (as in temperature) running laptops I've owned. I've had several higher end gaming laptops and they've all had very high temperatures - my other laptop at the moment is an Asus ROG Strix G18 (2023) with a 4080 GPU, and the GPU is always teetering on the edge of throttling (the threshold being 87C for the 40 series).
As for performance, the 4070 pairs well with the 144hz 1080p display and has no problems with modern games. It's able to maintain 2505MHz core clock under full load (at factory settings), which makes this an excellent 4070 sample, as many of the laptop 4070s are unable to reach 2500MHz. The 8GB VRAM is unlikely to become a bottleneck for 1080p resolution.
In the HP Omen software, the user can choose between Hybrid GPU mode (Optimus) and Discrete GPU mode (MUX switch). Choosing Discrete GPU mode requires a reboot. There is no support for Advanced Optimus.
Screen:
The screen is a bit of a weak point compared the rest of the components, with its official specs being 300 nits and ~62.5% of sRGB gamut. Comparing this with my Asus laptop, which has a 500 nits screen and a wider color gamut, I can tell that the Victus is dimmer and colors are less saturated. The overall screen tone also appears warm, with the white color appears to have a slight yellow tone.
On the flip side, the screen has good greyscale, with decent brightness and contrast properties. It also supports Freesync, and seems to work just fine in Hybrid GPU mode via testing the Nvidia Pendulum demo. Note that Freesync needs to be enabled in AMD Adrenaline software.
On my screen there's some slight light leak at the lower right corner, however light leaks are just about unavoidable for laptop screens, and this particularly one is not severe enough to bother me. It also came with no dead pixels, which is a refreshing contrast with the 3 Asus laptops I returned consecutively last year for dead pixels. Even my current Asus laptop has a sub-pixel defect, so seeing this HP laptop with no major screen defects feels quite miraculous.
Speakers and fan noise:
The speakers are on the quieter side and a bit lacking in bass, though I think they do the job just fine. The fans can be pretty loud while gaming, and can be a bit distracting as the noise level may overpower the speakers. However, this is a common issue with modern laptops, and I suggest using headphones/earbuds while gaming on laptops in general.
SSD:
SSD's capacity is low at 512GB, and requires replacement if you want more space, as it occupies the sole NVMe2 slot. The SSD performance is about ~3000 MB/s read and ~2700 MB/s write.
Battery life:
The battery lasted about 6.5 hours playing YouTube videos via wifi in Eco mode. CPU was using about 3W @ 30-35C, which is very efficient. For reference the Asus G18 lasted only 3 hours under the same testing conditions, despite having a larger battery.
Ports:
There are 3 USB-A + 1 USB-C ports (all of which are USB 3.0 5Gbps), 1 HDMI 2.1 port, a LAN port, and an audio jack.
There are no Thunderbolt ports, though that is to be expected from an AMD laptop.
Other components:
This system has 16GB of 5600MHz CAS 56 memory. It isn't particularly fast, but pretty decent for a laptop in this price range.
The keyboard does not support RGB lights - just white - which is functional for typing in a dark room.
The wireless chip is WIFI 6 (not 6E), and its speed is not that fast. It gets about half of the speed of the WIFI 6E chip in my Asus laptop (~350 Mbps vs ~700 Mbps) under identical network conditions.

Specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU
RAM: 16GB DDR5
Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD
Performance
This laptop absolutely delivers when it comes to raw power. The Ryzen 7 CPU handles multitasking and heavy workloads with ease — whether you're editing 4K video, compiling large codebases, or running multiple virtual machines. Paired with the RTX 4070, gaming performance is phenomenal. Most modern AAA titles run on Ultra settings at 1080p or 1440p with high, stable frame rates.
Thermals & Noise
Fans do ramp up during intense gaming or rendering sessions, but it's expected with this hardware. Temperatures stay within reasonable limits, and thermal throttling has been minimal in my experience. I recommend using a cooling pad if you're running it under load for long periods.
Battery Life
As with most high-performance laptops, battery life isn’t the strong point — I get about 4–6 hours on light usage, but much less when gaming or editing. This is more of a desktop replacement than a long-day unplugged machine.
Ideal For
Gamers who want high FPS on modern titles
Content creators (video editing, 3D rendering, graphic design)
Developers working on GPU-heavy projects or simulations
Power users who need serious multitasking capability
Pros
Outstanding performance for the price
Handles gaming and creative work effortlessly
Premium CPU/GPU combo
Fast boot and load times with the SSD
Cons
Battery life is just okay
Fans can get loud under load
Final Verdict
If you're looking for a laptop that blends desktop-class performance with decent portability, this AMD Ryzen 7 + RTX 4070 combo is hard to beat. Whether you're gaming, creating, or just need the horsepower for demanding work, it's a smart investment.

I am a content creator and I was complaining alot about how i travel alot and cant play the games I like to play, then my friend told me i should get this laptop and he said its decent and should be good ENOUGH for my expectations. I bought this laptop on sale for 900 dollars pretty good deal if u ask me but anyways I bought it and I played a some games with it. I like to play marvel rivals and I mostly played that and I was more than happy with how it performed like on lowest setting u get around 300 fps but since the display on this is only 144 hz u will only see 144 fps so i decided to put it on max graphics and max everything at it got around 60 to 140 fps which is way better then I thought it would do. But this was all on a stable charge,I tried it on battery and dont get me wrong its still good but its ALOT worse but its whatever I guess. One thing i didnt really like about it was how loud it was but I play on headphones and if you play on headphones you WILL NOT hear this machine. Over all I like this laptop and its good for content creation as well as gaming really all I needed was a 4070 and anything more then that would be too expensive so if u can find a deal for this and at the time of reviewing this machime its on sale SO GET THIS I LOVE IT!

This gaming laptop ticked a lot of boxes. The full power 4070 mobile is wonderful. The powerful efficient ryzen 7, 8000 series pulls through without a hitch. Additionally, the cooling system on this device is remarkably good at cooling although, somewhat loud. The sound is mostly just the sound of air rushing. The fans themselves dont have any high pitched whine like some other laptops.
I had no issues running this device with black ops 6 on maximum settings. The resolution is full hd 1080p with ips matte display which was very crisp and glare free. Although one major drawback for me is color accuracy. I am not doing Esports with this machine so a higher grade of color gamut would be preferred for my use case. (I game casually and prefer better color accuracy and resolution)
Pros.
1. Excellent cooling.
2. Very powerful hardware.
3. Price when on sale.
4. Upgradeable ram.
5. Light weight.
6. Good battery life.
7. Crispy full hd antiglare display.
Cons.
1. upgradability of ssd. There is a single m.2 ssd slot.
2. The chassis is all plastic and the screen flexes very easily.
3. The screen has roughly 63 percent srgb color gamut and some significant back light bleed or at least mine did.
4. Keyboard is very spongey feeling with not very defining clicks.
5. Track pad follows suit with keyboard. non defining clicks and poor tracking.
Good portable gaming system if plug into external monitor you can crank up the resolution while getting superior color gamut.
However in laptop mode the screen is quite lackluster.
It does the job though with good battery life in place of great screen. Trade offs sometimes need made right.
Overall I do recommend this laptop for gaming, Not for productivity though its kind of a single use machine in my opinion. Subpar keyboard and track pad No photo editing unless using external monitor.
If you plan to use all external peripherals, this machine would excel at anything you need within reason of hardware limitations of course.
Thank you for reading my review, I hope it is as comprehensive as possible and aids you in your final decision whether or not to purchase this machine for your use case.

Great Value for Gamers: Best Buy Gaming Laptop
This Best Buy gaming laptop delivers excellent performance for its price. Equipped with a powerful processor and an NVIDIA RTX GPU, it handles most AAA games smoothly. The 144Hz display ensures fluid visuals, and the sleek design adds portability without sacrificing quality.
However, battery life is average, and the fans can get loud during heavy gaming. For the price, though, it’s a fantastic option for gamers seeking a reliable, budget-friendly laptop.

HP Victus RTX 4070 Laptop – After Upgrades, This Thing Rips
I got this HP Victus 16.1” gaming laptop not too long ago, and I’ve already upgraded it with 32GB of RAM and a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD — and wow, it flies now.
Even before the upgrades, this thing was solid. The Ryzen 7 8845HS and RTX 4070 combo is crazy fast. Out of the box, it handled everything I threw at it — gaming, editing, multitasking — no stutters, no lag. But after the upgrade? It’s like it unlocked beast mode.
Games like Call of Duty, Forza, and even heavier stuff like Cyberpunk run smooth as butter on high/ultra settings. Temps stay under control, fan noise is there when it needs to be, but nothing too wild.
The 16.1-inch screen is bright and sharp, great for gaming and streaming. The speakers are okay, not amazing, but I usually wear a headset anyway. Keyboard is really comfortable, and the layout doesn’t feel cramped at all.
With the 32GB of DDR5, I can run heavy software, emulators, VMs, and still have room to breathe. And that 4TB 990 Pro SSD? It loads everything instantly. I’ve got all my games, files, videos — no need to worry about space now.
Battery life is average, but let’s be real — this is a performance laptop. Plug it in and unleash it.
Overall, I’m honestly in love with this setup. For the price I paid, and with the upgrades, I feel like I have a desktop-level machine that I can take anywhere. HP really nailed it with this one.

Abosolute monster…the victus is tearing up all AAA games with high fps….playing ghost of tsushima, nfs unbound, assassins creed mirage and other games on ultra settings with ray tracing and dlss 3 on smoothly without any lag whatsover and the best part is that the tenps never get high even in an intense gaming session.Highly recommend it you just have to upgrade ssd to 1TB or 2TB and you are good to go.Even though it says it has a 1080p display it supports a maximum resolution of 4K in games probably because of the high end gpu.

Great price to performance with the star of the show being the 4070 GPU. You won't find another laptop or desktop below $1000.00 but with that being said. HP had to cut some corners as majority of the budget went to the GPU then the processor. The screen is a high refresh rate but that's about it, 1080p is a weak point but you won't probably won't tell the difference on a 16inch screen but colors are washed when turning on HDR. Also, I upgraded from 16GB RAM to 32 for faster loading times and multitasking. However the 512GB hard drive is just an insult. You would be lucky to get 4 major title games loaded. So I had to upgrade to 2TB Nvme. So I paid about $765 for an open box which was fantastic. Then $100 for 32GB RAM and $120 for Nvme. Addressing my 2 biggest issues besides the screen and still less than $1k

Really powerful laptop. Has almost all the features I needed in a laptop to be used for college and gaming. I am coming from Asus G14 which is very light but not very powerful. This is a welcome change. Did Firestrike and Time spy tests in 3d Mark. It shines in all of them.
The best thing I noticed about this laptop is that temps never exceed 80 during gaming or benchmarks. Build quality is so so. Can only charge through 65 W charger when it is off. Tried various 100 watt but could not make it work. Screen is Okayish not very bad, would be wonderful if it was 16:10 instead of 16:9. I liked the keyboard and touchpad of G14 more. Battery life could be better.
But in the end, it has the best value for money for a gaming laptop with rtx4070.

To begin, I bought this laptop on an amazing sale. It was by far the best deal I could find on a gaming laptop with an RTX4070 laptop graphics card. It has performed very well in the past few weeks including hours of AAA gaming. I feel like it was a great purchase for the price I paid. For full price, there are a few "flaws" that would have annoyed me. First, this thing runs HOT when gaming. I am very careful to ensure the exhaust vents are clear to help move the hot air out. Second, the battery life is dismal when gaming. I get about 1 hour with the settings maxed. Last, the screen is okay but not great. I knew this going in and I am satisfied. By the way, I swapped to a 2tb SSD and 32 RAM using Geek Squad and they did a great job.

Great computer well built, and at 900 for the 4070 it was the best deal of the 24 holiday season for 4070s in the price range as this is better than the loq and worth the extra 20 compared to that one. I love it and it works well for Fortnite and other games
Screen doesn’t do hdr which is kinda lame considering the beefy card that can output beautiful graphics but the picture still looks nice.
Volume isn’t that loud but max vol is good enough for gaming, not much louder than a phone
Just needs to be plugged in if gaming
Overall worth the cost when it was on sale for the card. I will probably upgrade to 32gb ram since 16 kinda bottlenecks the card but only on really intense games. Will also get a larger ssd since it only had like 400 gb after OS download and one game

Excellent performance got it on sale for $900 and definitely worth it at that price. Only downside I have experienced is the screen has some back light bleed in the bottom left corner but only really noticeable on a black screen and of course the battery life is horrible but you don’t buy this laptop for battery performance. The fans are loud but that’s to be expected but in turn they keep the laptop surprisingly cool. I don’t regret my purchase one bit.

The laptop runs cool. I had to update a lot of the drivers and BIOS to get everything running properly. Also, the Ethernet port took a long time to initialize, and the automatic Windows and HP troubleshooting didn't solve the problem so it seemed like a hardware issue. The screen is probably the worst part of the laptop, with pretty bad viewing angles (starts becoming dark 30 degrees off center) and washed out colors. I'm not sure how useful the HP software is as well, with McAfee installed by default (removed it immediately) and HP Omen still running in the background even when removed from startup. Otherwise, the laptop runs quite well and is a pretty well put together package for the price. Keyboard and trackpad are also quite standard, no issues there.

Really good gaming laptop. That 4070 is a beast, it can run any game without any problems. The only downside is the battery. It doesn’t really last that long, but you want to be connected anyways to get more performance. Another con is the ram and the ssd but you can always upgrade those later. Other than that it’s a great laptop especially if you get on a deal.

I love the Victus. Incredible performance, graphics, and smooth quality gameplay. The design is sleek and comfortable. The only downside would be the battery life when using the laptop to specifications is very short. From 100% to 10% in about an hour, hour and a half. Not a problem if it is plugged in but taking gaming on the go might be cut short.

I couldn't be happier with my purchase of the HP Victus 16.1" Gaming Laptop! Right out of the box, this machine impressed me with its sleek Mica Silver finish and solid build quality. But where it really shines is performance — especially for gaming.
I primarily bought this laptop to play Counter-Strike 2, and let me tell you: it runs absolutely flawlessly. I'm consistently hitting 300+ FPS even during intense moments, thanks to the powerful combo of the AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS processor, 16GB DDR5 RAM, and the beastly NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU. Everything feels buttery smooth, super responsive, and just an overall amazing experience.
The 16.1" screen is stunning, with vibrant colors and a fast refresh rate that really elevates competitive gaming. Plus, the 512GB SSD makes loading times lightning fast — whether it's games, apps, or just booting up the system, everything feels instant.
If you're looking for a gaming laptop that can dominate titles like CS2 and handle everything else you throw at it, this is the one. HP really knocked it out of the park with this model. Highly, highly recommend!
