Ill be honest. I wasnt expecting much from this phone. It was my first Huawei phone, and I wasnt sure if I would like the EMUI skin over the Android system. But after using it a couple days I really grew to like all the customization. And the phone itself is easily one of the best looking phones out there. The front and rear glass looks very high end. The battery life was good as well. No issues getting through a full day. Its overall performance was very snappy also with the Kirin 950 chip. I never experienced any lag. If you are looking for a great looking, snappy, unlocked phone this is a great choice.

Great build and performance, not perfect

I was shopping for a mid to higher spec phone to replace my dating HTC M8. I personally prefer something i can operate with one hand, 5.2" is the max i can handle, so the Honor 8 fits perfectly. At first i wasn't sure about having a higher spec phone without a snapdragon processor, but after using it for 2 weeks, it proofs that the Kirin 950 is perfectly capable for day to day use, please note that I don't do intense gaming, so i can't speak for that. Many users are saying EMUI ruins the whole experience and downloading a launcher is a must. I personally think it's fine, definitely not the typical Android we are used to, it's closer to an iOS experience with a hint of android to it. It's hard to comment if one would like it or not, I'd recommend go to the store and try it out. The build quality is great, I got the blue one and the shine on the back is amazing, though you will find it very hard to keep it smudge free, plus, it's one of those super slippery phone, a protective case is almost a must if you want to keep your phone in one piece. The camera takes great photo, low light performance still suffers a bit, but so do most of the smart phone cameras out there. My wife want to swap her V20 with my Honor 8 simply for the camera. The smart key shortcut is great addition to the fingerprint sensor, i set the shortcut to one click - camera, double click - flash light, press n hold - calculator, works well but Hold and double-click is sometimes hard to perform given the phone is so slippery, again, a case solves the problem. I've experienced one or two small lag, which was not a big deal as the rest of the time it performs pretty smoothly. Switching back and forth from WiFi to 4G isn't as fast as I would like, it's acceptable, but my old HTC did the switch much faster. Now, the biggest concern is that there were horizontal lines appeared on screen once, I had to restart the phone and press the screen several times before the lines went away, not sure if it's a faulty screen, but its working fine now. i'll definitely send it to check under warranty if it happens again. Overall, it's a very solid phone, not perfect, a great buy for the price nevertheless.

As a loyal iPhone user, I have used iPhone for 6 years until I find Huawei. The screen is way better than iPhone, and bigger than 7, but smaller than 7 plus, which meets my requirement. The finger print in the back is neat, and easy to use. The whole design is pretty beautiful and modern. White color is my favorite. The only concern is that I can not find health app that can track my steps and calories consumed. In conclusion, it is a proof that you can get a good smart phone and not need pay much as iPhone or high-end Samsung. You can still have the same or even better performance.

Thank you for the positive review on your Pearl White Huawei Honor 8! The Honor 8 combines exclusive design and high-end craftsmanship. The premium, slick body of the Honor 8 is made with heavy 2.5D glass on front screen and back surface, finished aluminum alloy, and ultra-narrow bezel design for a much stronger body and a smooth, seamless feeling. 15-layer craftsmanship and light-catching glass finish makes the Honor 8 stand out from the crowd. If you are looking for a calorie counting and stepper app, there are a number of different apps you can download via the Google Play Store. We appreciate the feedback. (NS) HuaweiCustomerCare

    VERY solid phone

This phone is amazing. I let people hold it and they say it's like a google pixel then I tell them how much it costs and their jaw drops. The camera opens quickly and is a really good idea: 2x12MP cameras and it combines the 2 pictures and the result is very nice. People can't tell that the display is only 1080 and keep asking if its a 4k, always a good sign. The weakest part of the phone is the speaker - its very quiet and the sound quality isn't very good either. I personally like the feel of the volume rocker above the lock button and the fingerprint sensor on the back, which is very snappy, just like the rest of the phone. The type c connection makes transferring my music to my phone faster (I'm old school), lets it fully charge in an hour or so, and will be compatible with a load of type c devices in the future. Finally, the battery lasts me at least 2 workdays on a single charge.

My Oneplus One was failing me and I wanted a phone that wouldn't break the bank, yet it could handle all I could throw at it. Enter the Huawei Honor 8. With Best Buy having a $50 off promotion on the Honor 8, this quickly rose to the top of my list. For those concerned about chipsets, the Kirin 950 SoC is plenty powerful enough to handle all your everyday tasks and then some. Paired with 4gb of RAM, this phone performs smoothly. I have not experienced any lag what so ever. The 1080p screen is gorgeous. When compared to my old phone with a 1080p screen, the Huawei Honor 8 takes the cake. Colors pop, blacks are black, and whites are white. It truly is a gorgeous screen. Battery life is better than expected. I've gone over 24hrs without charging the Honor 8. I have Wifi and Bluetooth turned on and the batter is still running strong. The Huawei battery manager is to thank here. The two 12MP cameras work great for stills. Very accurate colors. The camera app gives you a lot of control over the type of photos. Now, I haven't played around too much with the camera as of yet, but the handful of photos I did take all came out better than expected. I have not tried any night photos yet, so I will have to play around with that later. The gestures used with this phone is pretty neat. Knocking with a knuckle to capture a screen shot, using your knuckle as a snippit tool...super convenient! Lets not forget how beautiful this phone is. I picked up the Sapphire Blue handset and the way it shines in the light....just beautiful. You wouldn't think this handset was a sub $400 phone based on looks. Plus, you can guarantee you won't see a whole lot of these on the streets (yet). My wife has a Nexus 5x and she is pretty jealous of my Honor 8. People have complemented my phone because they have never seen anything like it. To say the least, I am satisfied. I did not want to pay a lot of money for a phone, yet I wanted a phone that could handle all my daily tasks, looks great, and takes decent photos. The Huawei Honor 8 definitely has met all my needs. Would highly recommend this phone!

I purchased this phone for my 13 year old son and thought seriously about trading him for my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. The Huawei Honor 8 has all the bells and whistles you'd want and more. I've had some awesome phones but the Honor 8 is the best by far! It takes beautiful pics in daylight and at night. It came with a complimentary gift box which included a selfie stick and extra charger. Not a bad deal for only $299! Great job Huawei! I'll be on the lookout for more of your products.

Everything looks great for the price. $350 (after giftcard) is a great buy in opinion. A few things that would like to see. -More colors from China launch. I really really wanted the Gold colored version, even the pink is very appealing. Hope in the future more colors will come to US market. -With the great news about Huawei committing to 24 months of software software, I hope new software will appeal to Android material design while still incorporating Huawei vision. Maybe different choices for customers who prefer one or the other? - With the 4K television being more and more available, would the camera sensor that's on the Honor 8 be able to take upscaled 4K resolution pictures? It would be great to see a higher resolution for Samsung 4kTV :) Thanks, Sam

Battery life, battery life, battery life...... All I can say is this phone does all I need but does it longer. I bought this as a temporary hold over while Samsung gets their act together on the Note7 disaster but I may end up keeping it longer. Not the biggest screen or fastest processor or the most nimble phone out there but it's the best of all the things I like. It's easy to use with a fast finger print scanner. The screen is clear and sharp enough. The design and materials say quality. It is not a cheap phone. I got the white version, which hides fingerprints much better than the blue or black. It charges quick with the supplied quick charger. The only negative is the lack of cases or screen protectors. A quick search on Amazon will produce a bunch of options though. Did I mention the battery life? It's awesome. I use my phone all day and as of right now, after 12 hours and several hours of screen on time, I've got 63% battery left. This phone is a major win. Go get it! Oh and no contract of monthly payments......

Great phone! The low light pictures are amazing and the camera is quick with fun modes to make those selfies look great. The fingerprint scanner is the quickest I've seen and the feature to click it for other shortcuts is nice. People who bash emotion UI seem to be the android guys. I'm an android guy myself but haven't had issues. While it's not a basic as my nexus or Sony the additional features are great and helpful. The real winner is there battery life. I watched three movies over wifi on it when flying. Just great.

Bought this at a store and I liked the camera, the looks, and built but software problems were discovered when I actually get to play with it after I purchased it.. here are the problems I've encountered... First when google maps is on the notification bar when you swipe from the top is not expanding fully which causes the text on it to be jumbled up. Next issues are when the phone is on the lock screen. You cannot access the shortcuts which is normally accessed when you swipe from the top of the screen which gives you access to turn on/off features such as wifi, Bluetooth and others. Another issue when the phone is on lock screen you cannot expand notifications such as messages/email notification where on all other android phone you can do that so you can preview that message. Another issue on that same note, you can only swipe to the right which opens (gets you to the pin screen to unlock) the notification and you couldn't swipe to the left to make the notification go away and while we are on the subject of pin screen you couldn't get away from the pin screen unless you press the power button twice to make it go back to the lock screen again. Another issue, again involving lock screen is when let's say Pandora is playing, and you locked the phone, normally when you press the power button you would go to the lock screen and have the control widget for pandora available for you so you can skip song or pause/play songs on this phone you cannot do that right now, I have enabled every possible options on the apps settings for individual apps and this doesn't fix the problem. Hopefully we can see an software update ASAP coz this is quite a deal breaker for me. If I don't see any sign of software updates in less than 30days I would probably return the phone and switch it with something else.

Hello, thank you for your review and we're sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your new Honor 8 device. First things first, the Google Maps issue you are experiencing sounds like a software/system optimization issue and will be corrected by going into your 'Phone Manager' app, click 'Touch to Optimize' and clearing up some of the unnecessary "trash" files/caches that have accumulated on the device. With your Shortcuts, you will need to access your shortcuts, press the power button and swipe down from the top of the screen. Then click shortcuts and you will have all your shortcuts (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Silent, Airplane mode, etc.) that you can enable and disable at your leisure. In terms of the pin screen, unless you remove the pin lock, you will always be forced to unlock using your pin code once the phone is "locked" or screen changes to black. There is no options for avoiding that screen since that would defeat the purpose of the pin lock. For Pandora, once you have a song playing and you lock the screen, the only options you will get from the locks screen is the song title, play/pause, and track back/forward. If you pull down from your notifications, you will get the control widget you are speaking of. Regarding software updates, Honor is committed to providing the best possible experience for our customers. From this year we are making a commitment to provide customers with access to new features (at least once every three months during the first 12 months) for up to 24 months following each product launch.
We will keep providing access to security and software updates to fix bugs and enhance user experience in a timely manner. Beyond this period we will continue to provide updates in response to any threats to user safety and security. Our goal is to ensure customers have the best and safest possible experience on their Honor device. If you still have questions or concerns about the Honor 8, please follow up with our Honor Customer Support Team at +1-844-524-6667 for more troubleshooting steps. Thank you. (NS) HuaweiCustomerCare
