This is hands down the best android phone I've ever had. I have tried other android phones a couple times in the past before going back to Apple. Finally, this phone strikes the right balance of features that make it, first and foremost, a good phone. The battery life on the Mate 9 is amazing. It is the first android phone I've ever had that matches or bests the iPhone in real world use. It also doesn't get hot in my pocket when I'm not even using it. Call quality on AT&T is as good as you would expect on any flagship. The Mate 9's camera is also very impressive. It has a lot of neat features that allow me to take more artistic pictures than ever before, while also retaining the ability to take good quick snaps when I don't want to fiddle with settings. My favorite camera feature is the ability to take real monochromatic 20 megapixel pictures. In video mode, the image stabilization works great, and the sound capture seems more true to life than my past phones. Other pros are the awesome speakers and great screen. Reviewers seem to apologize that this phone isn't good for VR due to its low pixel count. Personally, I don't much like having a heavy box strapped on my face, so the current pixel-density race on phones is a game of diminishing returns to me. Also, a higher resolution screen would reduce battery life and performance. I like that the Mate 9 gives me better battery life and performance, with a big bright screen that is easy to look at, and with a resolution that is sharper than my naked eye can detect. By hitting the right balance of features and compromises, and not adding gimmicky unproven features that hog resources and cost more, you get flag ship performance without the flagship price. Cons on the Mate 9 are few. Initially the phone alerts you constantly to apps that it thinks are using too much power. I left that on for a week to let me tweak certain app permissions to my taste, then I disabled the notification since battery life just isn't an issue with this phone. Certain settings are also buried pretty deeply in the user interface and are more difficult to discover initially than on other android devices. However, once you've found them and set them the way you want them, everything works reliably and stably. My only other complaint is that I can't load custom icon packs into the stock launcher, so I'm stuck with the handful of Huawei options unless I use a custom launcher, but that is a really small nit to pick. Overall, this is the best phone I've had so far. I would like to see water proofing and wireless charging on future iterations of the phone, but I understand that might change the price point so it's not something I consider negative about the Mate 9 at all. I've never totaled a phone due to water damage anyway and Huawei's quick charging meets my needs perfectly well. I hope Huawei causes more companies for focus on making good, solid, full-featured phones at a more reasonable price. The Mate 9 is a real winner!

I have used about every one of the top phones on the market (iPhone 7+, Pixel XL, S7 Edge, LG G5 and V20, HTC 10 Moto Z, One+3, Axon 7, etc.) and this is the best phone on the market right now. It has the best combination of size, screen, software, battery life and camera on the market. I was concerned about the 1080p and relatively low pixel density on such a big screen, but the screen is absolutely great. Rarely do you notice the difference between it and the AMOLED screens on the market. The battery is awesome. The software with Nougat flies. It has a much larger screen in the same size body as the iPhone 7+ and the Pixel XL. It is hard to find fault with this phone. Hopefully, Huawei will support it and issue quick security and other (7.1.1) updates.

In my case is a bad experience. The phone lost the calls. I called two time to Huawei, but they say that the problem isnt the phone. But really this phone doesn't work well

Too much of a learning curve. I just need to make phone calls and browse the internet.

I spent countless time reviewing and comparing smartphones for my next purchase didn't want to end up with a dud with as much as they cost now days and I needed one unlocked. I was maybe gonna roll with the S8 but the 800 price tag was to much. I had the Nexus 6P and fell in love in Huawei and the phone. This phone the Mate 9 is fantastic its on the level of the S8 and its a couple hundred cheaper. The camera is better the batter life is better and the size of the phone is perfect for me. The only real drawback if it is one is the water resistant part, but I haven't dropped or plan to drop one in water so its all good. Get this phone you wont regret it!!

It's a great Android phone, and fast. Great battery life -- at least a day and a half. Very high resolution display, best camera. I work in a building where my T-Mobile signal is almost non existent. My old Samsung S4 just could not get anything inside the building, and my co-worker's IPhone 7 is not much better. But, I can get T-Mobile data most of the time with this Mate 9. It definitely has the best reception for signal strength.

Just wanted to start off and say wow what a great phone. I am normally a HUGE htc fan and always bought HTC products. I also buy and sell a lot of phones on ebay. I have used Motorola, Samsung, HTC, LG, and Nokia phones. What I got accustomed to was quick charging, wireless charging, waterproofing, stereo speakers and great build quality. What I really disliked was being carrier locked and having very buggy software. I was looking for a phone that would replace my S7. The S7 is just a slow buggy phone after awhile. This phone has everything you would want in a flagship phone without the always on display, waterproofing, wireless charge. You will learn you can live without these features. What you do get is a fantastic 5.9" Full 1080 display. The display I would say is similar to a nexus 6 screen panel. The screen is not AMOLED but it is a good IPS display. The colors are accurate and the viewing angles are good. The camera is good in daytime but at night it is just average. I don't really care to too much about the camera, its good enough for what the average consumer needs. Software EMUI 5.0 is Huawei's skin over Android 7.0 Nougat is a lightly skinned stock android. It does not have crazy overlays for being a non stock google phone meaning the menus are easy to understand. You can download any launcher you want and keyboard to make this phone feel like a Pixel phone. You can also download themes from the theme store [emui theme factory]. This phone is also promised to get Android O. I would say this phone mimics a IPhone 7 plus dialer, menus, ect. This phone delivers almost Nexus like smoothness and performance without being a Nexus phone. The phone also will let you know which apps to turn off that are eating up a lot of battery. Great feature! No need for greenify. No need for root either. Everything stock runs amazing. No LAG. You can uninstall almost any software on the phone. Great! Not just disable junk and hide it from the memory. Multimedia This phone has amazing stereo speakers setup like the iPhone 7 plus. I would not put the quality to like say a Nexus 6/6p, HTC 9/10/11, IPhone 7 plus. The quality on the speakers I would say are like on stock hi-fi speakers in a car with a decent headunit the sound is clear and loud but it is no Bose or Clarion. I would say mid range sony speakers with a frequency response of 50-50hz. Overall Impressions Get this phone if you are on the verge of getting something that has Type C SUPER FAST charging, 4,000mAH battery lasting all day with heavy usage, IR blaster, great stereo speakers, silky smooth performance, unlocked GSM, great metal build, future updates.

The Mate 9 is nicely designed premium hardware. Bottom line this is a premium phone for $599. Very fair price. First, let me address the screen size. For those worried about the 5.9" screen size being too big, know this: The Mate 9 is the same size as the iPhone 7 Plus that I have been using the past 4 months. So if you're used to a Note 7 type device or an iPhone Plus then you will have no problem with the size of the Mate 9. The software on the Mate 9 is fluid and smooth. Not quite as buttery as the Pixel but it's nice and smooth. Huawei focused on software optimization it seems. Also the EMUI user interface is similar to stock Android so that it's nicely designed and professional but with added features from Huawei. The screen is beautiful with nice saturation and pop. Once you see the screen you won't care that it's not quad HD. The camera is good and if you are a camera enthusiast the amount of manual control offered by Pro mode will be appreciated. Out of the box the Mate 9 deserves 5 stars. The unknown is, how often will the software get security updates? Will it get 7.1.1 etc.? If you are looking for a big screen premium device and want an unlocked phone, the $599 price of the Mate 9 is very fair. You won't be disappointed.

I was really looking forward to the note 7 but since they got recalled I went with this one. I read the excellent reviews and it satisfied my needs in a smartphone. 1) Great camera. 2) Expandable storage. 3) Great battery life. The battery I can honestly say lasts 2 days at least. Im a heavy user. Screen not ultra HD but looks great in full HD. Also, the processor for intense gaming apps is great with no lags. I popped in a 200gb microsd card and it recognized it right away. Now the battery. Its amazing that they are able to get 2 plus days on a regular size battery. I used to have to buy bulky battery cases to get 2 days. Its incredible like magic before your eyes. I was going to hold on to this until the new galaxy s8 comes out but I'm rethinking that.

The bad system backstage control Killed nearly all the apps in backstage. I missed nearly all the push messages including Gmail. I don't know this "smart" phone can do except call and text message. Finally, I refunded it!

This is a remarkable phone and I was tearing-up as I packed it to return. It does everything they say it will - and then some. Plus, for lots of extra tips & tricks and help, go to YouTube there is a lot of info. there from Mate 9 experts and others. So, why the broken heart ? It's not you, it's me. I have a spinal situation which is affecting my left side, arm, hands, hip balance etc. I trip a lot and drop just about everything. I fall down, often. It's lovely. I'd wanted a phone with a really good camera and call capacity. Camera that I could fearlessly take outside for photoing my dog on the beach or in the snow, in all kinds of weather, a phone that I'd not be afraid of slipping out of my hands. I realized too late that this beautiful, flagship, incredibly- priced phone (it was $499 in December) just won't cut it if I want something that won't die in the sand, snow or sea or toilet. this phone can't take humidity nor rain. Living in Boston w/only two seasons - wet & hot, wet & cold, I"m outta luck. Anyway, the Mate 9 is a fantastic phone. It's "affordable* and beautiful (I prefer square things to rounded things) and if I didn't have this disability,coupled with age, it'd be a no brainer, it's a keeper. If Huawei would market & sell the P10 in the USA I'd take out a loan to buy their first water resistant phone. I love my moonlight silver Mate 9 but it makes no sense to own a phone which I'm afraid to move around with. On day 2 I almost drowned it at The Porcelain Bowl . I forgot it was in my jeans, back pocket and after a trip to the loo - couldn't figure out why I was having trouble getting re-dressed WTF ?!? If this phone wasn't so big stuck in the back pocket it would have taken a dive. The one thing I had difficulty with is, ironically, the camera. One should be adept at digital shooting to capture low light photos and have the patience to learn how to work the camera ( as well as everything else) on this almost- perfect, higher-end, phone. Note to iPhone Worshipers: Being that Android is against all principals of your universe you'll probably hate it but you should at least take a look at it,,,you may be pleasantly surprised.

It always shows error and make me crazy. There is not even sound pop out when I connected to my seadan. Useless and pricey

Switching from an Iphone can seem scary at first but I promise after a few days of using this phone you will quickly forget it! I read specs, reviews, etc non-stop for weeks leading up to my decision to purchase this phone. My friends talked down about spending so much on a brand that had never heard of. Well my reason for going with Huawei was very simple, better specs and an amazing camera! Plus I have worked internationally and have seen and used Huawei devices in other countries. If you can get out of the USA/Apple bubble you need to realize Huawei is just as big of a company as apple just not in the US (YET). I am not going to make this review too long I will just say this is way faster than I thought it would be and the camera is down right amazing! I have taken photo after photo and not been disappointed yet. The finger ID pad is so fast I feel cheated when I try to use my wifes slow Iphone 7. Not completely trashing apple just so sick of people always saying its the best when they never use anything else. I switched from a Iphone 6+ and the size and user experience just beats it away in every aspect as far as I am concerned. Take a chance on this phone and you will not be disappointed.

This is a very beautiful and well built phone. I really enjoy using the phone. The screen is great for resolution it has and good battery. The camera is excellent as well as the speaker SQ. All in all, it is a great unlock phone. However, there is some issue with some apps. Some apps will not installed due to compatibility, some will not run properly. I am not sure if it is the issue with the phone or it is simply those apps were not fully support the CPU used in this phone? Again, just very few apps that I used previously that has issue. I wish every apps works and I hope the future apps and OS update will address this issue. It is not a deal breaker, it might be for some; depending on how important to those folks.

It is super fast to charge the battery and it can last more than 2 days. It is amazing phone with so updated technology with EMUI 5.0, such as favorable design, friendly features, easily access or switch into the different tasks/windows. The most important part that the phone can keep cool even I used it for over one hour to watch videos, which is much better than Samsung, LG and iPhone. I trust Huawei's technology and have heard almost billion people use them with a very good reviews. So I bought Mate 9 on Jan 6th 2017 when it was first time put into Best buy store in DC. It was quiet surprised that I can click the app of ' Consumer' to connect with Huawei customer service straightly.... All in all, this is the best phone with the best price (even that time I bought for almost $700, but it was cheaper compare to the iPhone 7 plus, Samsung s7) I have had so far, and I strongly recommend this phone .

I was in the market for a new phone but was torn between purchasing another Android or switching to the IPhone. I have grown quite bored with the Galaxy and wanted something different. I had been conducting nonstop research when I stumbled upon the Huawei Mate 9 and after more research, I decided to purchase it. I am glad I did!!! The phone is definitely a cross between Android and IOS and has so many neat features! The phone is huge (which is my personal preference) but the screen can be resized to allow the user to operate the device with one hand. It has so many other neat features but I don't have time to name them all. The camera is above average and also has several great features. The sound is phenomenal and the display is superb despite some complaints I've read. The settings are impressively customizable so take some time to play with them. The settings are so vast that you will probably find some accidentally. The only negative, for me, was the fingerprint setup. I became quite frustrated trying to register my finger. At first I thought it was user error but remembered having a much simpler experience with Galaxy's fingerprint setup. After I finally got it, I love it. The fingerprint recognition is FAST and can be used to unlock apps. I LOVE this phone. It is definitely the answer for those tired of Android and contemplating switching to IOS and vice versa. Huawei has a great new flagship that will quickly become your new fav!

It's an epic phone... It's fast, excellent front and back cameras, battery is good unless you're not using apps that consume lots of memory and battery life. The speakers on the phone are insane loud so you have to keep it at mid volume most of the time. The cameras pick up light from the area you're in really well so you rarely need to use flash unless you're in a dark environment. Drawbacks are...Phone gets too hot/drains battery while on Skype. I get a good three hours in on Skype full charge before the battery goes down to 20% life. Phone touch screen is not very responsive. When I press on an App, the phone screen slides. Besides that, I love the darn thing!

I bought this for $399 on the black friday promotion. It's an excellent phone. The battery is eternal, the screen quality is way better than I expected it to be and the whole experience is just fast. I was impressed that it even shipped with a screen protector and a case in the packaging. Great phone.

I purchased this phone about 3 weeks ago from Best Buy and I have to say I am extremely impressed with the phone. I tested the reports of 2 day usage before charging and can confirm that to be accurate. Charge time is also very fast. I've used LG's, Samsung's, Motorola's, Nokia(in the late 90's of course) and none of them compare. The speed is exceptional, picture quality is stellar( I am still playing with all the professional adjustments and find tuning night shots) and the presentation is amazing. You get a lot with the phone upon purchase and Huawei excels at making you feel like you bought a way more expensive phone then any of the previous manufactures mentioned.

I bought this phone for my wife for Christmas and she loves it. Upgraded her phone from a Galaxy S6. The battery lasts for 2 days of moderate use, and the camera is solid. The only thing I would change about this phone is the LCD screen. AMOLED is the way to go in my opinion. However, the screen is by no means a bad screen. It's super sharp and has rich colors (and huge, by the way). I'm just a big fan of the darker blacks of an AMOLED screen. Overall this is a great phone and my wife loves it.
