    So Close... A shame really

Normally when I feel a product only merits a three out of five, I return it. I work too hard for my money to settle for mediocre, so why did I keep them? I previously bought two HyperX Cloud II headsets for my kids and the sound quality through the headphones as well as the mic were top notch, so I didn't want to give up on this pair too easily. These Alpha's are apparently the successor and next generation units of the Cloud II headset. They are even selling at the exact same price point. Normally you would expect the next generation to improve on the previous generation, but sadly that isn't the case here. The good news is the audio remains superb, perhaps a tick better if one listens carefully in a side-by-side comparison. However, the microphone quality took a big step backward. This is due to the omission of the inline sound card the Cloud II headset had which also included a USB connector vs the dual analog plugs the Alpha's include, ugh. The result is an unacceptable signal-to-noise ratio with this mic. In playback, the recorded voice is under-powered and worse, it's accompanied by background hiss. I was on the verge of returning it until I tried plugging it into my daughter's HyperX sound card that came with her headset. Boom! Perfect sound from both the phones and the mic as it produced strong vocals with a dead silent backdrop. So... I bit the bullet and spent another $30 and bought the HyperX Cloud Virtual 7.1 Surround Sound USB Sound Card HyperX also sells separately. Life is now great, just tried it, wow! So the moral of the story is this. Yes, in the end this is a great headset. But if comparing this to the previous generation Cloud II, then it is NOT the same $100 headset, it's actually a $130 dollar headset after buying the same device the Cloud II uses. Such a shame. HyperX designed another great headset, then crippled it by not including the same sound card its predecessor had. In the end, I highly recommend this unit, but contingent upon the purchase of the HyperX sound card.

    Broke early

Bought back in January it broke 8 months later. It was hung up every day and taken care of pretty reasonably well. For some reason it does not show the wire on the box or this image but there are two wires that attach from the ear cuffs to the head band on either side of your head. Apparently opening the head phones to fit them on my head was enough to make the right one snap internally. While within the items warranty i was told that if something happened to the headset i could get it replaced with it's warranty however it would seem this does not count.

so first off this headset is great. iv seen comments on the extension cord thats for the pc and the mic is bad. just follow the instructions in the box and the mic with work with both plugs on the extension should work cause i use the same out of the box extension for these on my pc. if you need help deciding on a head set dont read the reviews on the sit your buying from just go to youtube and look for unboxing vids and review vids or ask other gamers and base your thoughts on that

    Headset/Microphone crosstalk

My friends always complain they can hear my headset audio through my microphone clear as day even when my headset isn't that loud. I'll play music through the headset in between games and they can hear every single word of the song through the microphone. This issue is clearly a design flaw or faulty hardware. Either way, I wouldn't purchase these if you plan on using the included microphone.

    Not good for PS4

I thought I had done enough research on these but come to find out they were not loud enough for me. If you want to use them with PS4 you'll need to buy a $30 dongle. You will also not be able to hear yourself through the speakers, which is a deal breaker for me. I returned these the next day. I'll spend $130 on a full package.

Really enjoyed them the 2 months they actually worked... Still waiting to be determined IF hyperX will actually honor the "warranty" they claim to have as they are dragging their heels and making me jump through hoops to even attempt to resolve the issue

    Total Waste of Money

Got this to replace my Logitech G432s. Had some problems right out of the box. It wouldn't pick up the microphone if I put the plugs in the jacks so I Frankenstein'd it with the usb adapter from the old headset just to be able to use it. Saw it was a problem with some sound cards so, since I was planning on building a new pc in a month or two, decided to keep using it. Tried getting the official usb adapter for it but it actually managed to sound worse. Well, today I plugged it into the new build. The mic is touching my mouth it's so close, and everyone is complaining that I'm whispering. I'll be finding ANOTHER new headset after not even 3 months, probably go with logitech since they're reliable. Absolute waste of $100 and I'll never touch this brand again.

Compared to other headsets, the hyper x is really tight around the ear, uncomfortable with glasses and the mic is really not that good.

    Terrible

If I listened to music or watched a video while in a discord, the sound would play as if coming through my mic so they would hear it at whatever volume I had it. Lots of reddit searching resulted in one big "yeah they do that sometimes". I'd never recommend these for anything.
