[Employee of bestbuy] From the first charge into battle to the final echoes of the Calamity, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity delivers one of the most memorable, emotionally resonant Musou games ever made. It’s a rare sequel/spin-off that not only honors its source material (Breath of the Wild) but expands it in bold, inspired ways. Gameplay: Addictive and Always Exciting At its heart, Age of Calamity is a Musou (Warriors) game — and it executes that formula near-perfectly. The combat is fast, fluid, and endlessly satisfying: • Each character feels different thanks to distinct weapon styles, abilities, and combat flow. • Battles are large, chaotic, and thrilling — with dozens of foes clogging the screen, special attacks raining fire, and boss fights that demand both reflex and strategy. • The addition of mechanics like Updrafts, Runes, and Mounted Combat keeps encounters from ever feeling stale. Even after dozens of hours, I found myself thinking “just one more battle” more than once — a hallmark of truly engaging gameplay. Narrative: A Rich Prequel with Heart What elevates Age of Calamity above your typical Warriors game is its story. Set 100 years before Breath of the Wild, it explores the Great Calamity — the pivotal conflict that reshaped Hyrule. The narrative: • Expands beloved characters like Mipha, Daruk, Revali, and Urbosa, giving them emotional arcs that feel earned. • Offers new perspectives on familiar faces (Link, Zelda) while weaving in fresh lore that enhances the Zelda mythos. • Balances tragedy, triumph, and camaraderie with surprising depth — even managing heartfelt moments that genuinely moved me. The story missions are framed like chapters in a tragic, heroic epic — and the game’s pacing keeps the emotional stakes high throughout. Presentation and Aesthetic: Stunning and Stylish Visually, Age of Calamity finds a beautiful balance between the painterly charm of Breath of the Wild and the kinetic spectacle of Warriors battles: • The art direction feels faithful to Hyrule’s world — grassy fields, ruined strongholds, and divine beasts all come alive in motion. • Character animations are expressive; every dash, flurry, and special attack looks great. • The UI and menus are intuitive, making even complex missions easy to manage. The soundtrack is equally impressive — atmospheric when it needs to be, bombastic when the battlefield calls for it. Familiar Zelda themes are woven in with fresh arrangements that always fit the tone. Additional Features: Deep and Meaningful There’s more here than just the main campaign: • Base building and upgrades give a rewarding layer of progression. • Side missions and character quests flesh out the cast and offer varied objectives beyond “defeat all enemies.” • The game encourages experimentation with team compositions and strategies — making it fun for completionists and casual players alike. Final Thoughts Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a must-play for fans of The Legend of Zelda and Warriors action alike. It blends frenetic gameplay with an emotionally rich story, wrapped in a gorgeous, lovingly crafted world. It’s the rare spin-off that improves upon its inspirations — and does so with confidence and heart

I love the Hyrule Warriors franchise. They make it so fun. And now, implementing elements from BOTW and in this case TOTK has made it even more rewarding. Absolute blast to play and also get deeper in to the story of the main game.

Having played TOTK. I love the story line of Hyrule Warriors. The graphics are awesome. The speed and timed runs with which you have to clear certain levels makes game [play exciting and rewarding. Above all...there's a 2 player mode when available.

I had a great time with Age of Calamity, but it didn’t feel outstanding. Age of Imprisonment however took everything great from AoC, corrected a lot of issues that it had, and made this masterpiece. The story played out differently than I thought it would, but no complaints here! Calamo and his bud really stole the show and are now some of my favorite Zelda characters. But the best part of this game is the fact that it clears up a lot of misunderstandings from Tears of the Kingdom and makes it all make more sense. TotK wishes it had the storytelling AoI had, Koei Tecmo really left Nintendo’s writers in the dust here. AoI has an amazing cast of 19 playable characters, most of them totally brand new! But it was so much fun getting to know them all and their unique personalities and fighting styles. The diverse characters and multitudes of team combinations really kept the game intetesting for me despite being warned that it was repetitive. Yes it is repetitive. But you’re buying a Warriors game, not a traditional Zelda game so you should expect a “beat ‘em up” style the whole time. The visuals are stunning, I thought I booted up a PS5 for a sec, the soundtrack is gorgeous, and it’s overall such a good time. My only gripe is that a certain character I was hoping to play as is not playable (hoping for DLC later???) but brand new characters like Quino, Cadlan, and Vence made me (almost) forget. If you love the world of Zelda and/or TotK left a bitter taste in your mouth, I highly reccomend you check out Age of Imprisonment.

Zelda (Switch 2) Game Review I recently played Zelda on the Switch 2 and was thoroughly impressed. The game showcases the incredible power of the new console, with stunning visuals and smooth performance that make exploring the world feel immersive and seamless. Overall, I would rate Zelda a 9 out of 10. Even without highlighting specific favorite features or major criticisms, it’s clear that the game delivers a top-tier experience worthy of the Zelda name. If you’re a fan of adventure games or the series in general, this is a must-play title on the Switch 2.

Another solid entry in the Hyrule Warriors series. Unlike the prior game, this has a much more stable frame rate, and feels a bit more put together. The new characters and environments add a lot of variance to the missions, and the storytelling is enjoyable.

Even if you are not a fan of the zelda series this is a great game to play in the Switch 2 system I got 20+ hours played in the game and I can tell it worth it I got a very good experience in the handle mode but I really reccomend play in the docked mode because I played in the handle mode because I dont want to speedrun the game, giving me an average of 2h 30m until my switch give me the alert of 15% remaining, thats an alert for me to take a pause and play the game later so I enjoy it for more time Very good gameplay, character desing, exelent voices The only bad things that I could say about it are the quality of some cut-scenes that just feel at a low resolution, and sometimes low quality renders when there are to many enemies in screen, BUT AS I SAID, THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE IN HANDLE MODE, I SUPPOSED THAT IN THE DOCKED VERSION THIS BAD THINGS ARE NOT HAPPENING

This game puts a good wrap up to the botw era. It is a true prequel to tears of the kingdom that isn’t like age of calamity. There’s enough little things to do if you want to 100% the game. I’m about 90% done with the map and I have put in around 40 hours so far. This is the best a warriors game has run on Nintendo hardware too! No lagging when there is a lot going on the screen. You do see occasional lagging when playing handheld but I mostly play with my switch 2 docked.

Terrific Sendoff for BOTW Era Zelda

This looks fantastic and runs like a dream on the Switch 2. If you played Age of Calamity on Switch and were concerned about performance issues, it is a complete non-factor for Age of Imprisonment on Switch 2. This means you get all the Warriors style hack 'n' slash action and over the top specials without the annoying technical issues. The results are pretty amazing. The story is serviceable and it's a great sendoff to this Breath of the Wild era of the Zelda franchise. There is also a ton of content that will keep you busy for hours, even outside the main story. Free challenge missions have already been added too. This will keep you busy for a while.
