It also failed to respond to pressing the 'on' button on the unit. It does eventually turn on after repeated attempts, but neither way of turning it on works reliably, even if I wait a few seconds between attempts. Once it's on, the remote seems to work fine (and yes, I did replace the batteries). Very frustrating to use.
