Coping with a sound bar

So when it's time for commercials I hit the mute button. When I hit the mute button with the sound bar it turns off. When programming starts I have to go to all the trouble of turning the sound bar back on which takes some time. Which means I miss a part of the programming. Not a happy camper! I really prefer my old 19" which I have had for a number of years. I purchased the new 19" for another room in the house, hated the sound and purchased the sound bar. Dealing with hearing loss probably doesn't help.
