Soundbar is okay but sometimes whatever is playing cuts in and out.

My first ever sound bar or system. This really was ana fter thought. But we saved so much money on the tv, I decided what the heck, let's try a surround system. It is definitly different and for Movies it really enhances the expierence!

It sounded so good I bought two. One for my sons room and one for our bedroom

First, I want to say that we have another brand’s $800 soundbar with subwoofer connected to our living room TV. So I connected this $199 Insignia soundbar with subwoofer to the TV in my wife’s art studio. I admit I was worried that this much lower priced Insignia soundbar couldn’t compete and would leave me disappointed-especially in that much larger studio room. Boy, was I wrong! This Insignia system does not disappoint. It sounds great and even sports a couple of nice features not found on my higher priced soundbar system. On to the review: All components were packed well and arrived in good condition. The Quick Setup Guide is well written, has plenty of illustrations, and uses a numbered, step-by-step system to easily take the user through the installation and setup procedures. The User Guide is also very well written with adequate graphics. Both are multi-lingual. With only limited previous soundbar experience I was able to easily complete the installation and hook it up to a flat screen TV using the Quick Setup Guide. I would’ve preferred to connect this soundbar using a Digital Optical cable, but a Digital Optical cable was not included. So I just used the standard red/yellow RCA audio cable that was provided. That’s a shortcoming Insignia should rectify. Especially since a Digital Optical connection is preferred and would help any soundbar to sound its best. When picked up, the subwoofer feels light in the hands and I immediately worried about quality when I first lifted it out of the box. However, the deep sounding bass it delivers is just fine. Also worth mentioning, the wireless Bluetooth connection between the soundbar and the subwoofer occurs without any intervention on my part. A coin-style battery was pre-installed in the remote, so all I had to do was remove the plastic pull-strip. The remote is simple and cleanly laid out, yet has all necessary controls to run the sound system. All markings are white text on black background and are easy to read. A red power button sits prominently on the front left with a mute button conveniently situated on the front right for quick access when the telephone rings. I only mention the mute button, because the higher-end soundbar on our living room TV lacks a mute button on its remote and we find that irritating. The Insignia remote has separate volume controls for the soundbar and the sub-woofer. Once again, a very nice feature not found on the remote of my higher-end soundbar whose bass volume control is located on the back of the subwoofer. There is a group of three buttons on the remote labeled SOURCE where you need to select between Optical, RCA, or Bluetooth depending on your sound source connection. I was able to switch back and forth between the TV on the RCA input and an iPad Air 2 connected via Bluetooth. That leads me to believe you could connect a TV via optical and another sound device via RCA and then switch between them using the remote. There is another group of three buttons labeled DSP, which stands for Digital Signal Processor. The DSP buttons let you select between three preset sound modes: Standard, Theater, and News. I think Theatre sounds the best for music and movies and Standard also sounds fine. But, News was a little tinny, which probably won’t matter to most folks when listening to voice news, talk radio, etc. There are a four buttons located on the right end-cap of the soundbar itself: power, + and - volume, and one that lets you cycle through the three sources. They all worked fine, but are hard to see (black on black). However, they won’t get much use if the remote is around. It’s worth mentioning that this soundbar comes with a wall mounting template that I did not use. My soundbar sits in front of the TV. I tested this Insignia soundbar system with several streamed movies and music videos through the TV on the RCA connection. I also used the Bluetooth connection to stream a movie and some music videos through an iPad 2. Through it all, this Insignia soundbar with subwoofer delivered clear and vibrant sound in all ranges and volumes. I'm sure it would've sounded even better with a Digital Optical connection. Overall, I’m impressed with the features and the very decent sound quality of this soundbar and subwoofer. And I don’t mean I’m impressed just considering it’s lower-end price. It really does sound good! Kudos to Insignia for making an affordable, entry-level soundbar system that sounds much bigger than it really is.

It's not as good as surround sound, but better than tv speakers, great price

I got this on yesterday and put it up. Needless to say it didn't play the sound from my tv. The sub is okay. The only way I know the sub is okay, is because I connected the system to my cell phone woth Bluetooth. Not impressed. The range for Bluetooth is extra trash.
