When my PC crashed and no one can transfer my files. With this device you put the hard drive in the case, then plug it into the PC USB. You will be able to transfer any good files.

This hard drive enclosure was used when my laptop was ruined. Very easy to install. Just take the screwed off, connect it to the housing, and put it back together. Great item if you have a good hard drive but can't install in another computer.

Had to take out Hard drives from some laptops, and this hasn't failed me yet. Always recommend for someone to buy

My granddaughter has a laptop and she broke it. I needed to remove the hard drive to transfer all the programming to another computer. The enclosure was just what I needed for the job. Inexpensive and easy to use.

I'm an IT professional and have recently purchased four 2.5 inch drive enclosures. I install spare ssd drives in them and use them to transfer data. They are larger than a flash drive, but on large copies of small files, an ssd drive in an enclosure can operate about 2 orders of magnitude faster. I tested this drive by writing 272,000 files totaling 149GB. Through a USB 2.0 port, I got about 28MB/sec beginning with large files, then a drop in speed on the small files. I stopped and switched to a USB 3.0 connection which gave me about 260MB/sec on the large files. So that's OK, about 10 times faster. On the small files = about 270,000 at a few k each, I got about 225 files/second, say 15-20 MB/second. On a thumb drive, writing just 10,000 small files to a single folder might go at may 2-5 files/second. So, bottom line, performance is fine and appears on par with the best name-brand and off-brand USB 3.0 enclosures I've used. Price was about $15.00 less than the most expensive one and a few dollars more than the cheapest. Build quality is fine. Case is aluminum. USB 3.0 cable included. I'm quite satisfied with this device. Of course, to avoid the folder indexing issues with thousands of files, It's all ways faster to zip entire folders, then transfer them as single files. Working like that, this type of product is a game changer as it really let's high-speed USB shine. This Insignia enclosure has worked out fine for me so far. Highly recommended based on my experience with it.

Took a hard drive that I wanted to keep from a laptop I had upgraded. This enclosure was so easy to use. All necessary tools, which were few, we're inside the box. I would definitely purchase this again.

I am very pleased with this external hard drive enclosure and it makes it quite easy and fast to utilize files from old drives without needing to transfer unneeded files and take up hard drive space on my new lap top.

I used this to manage and handle my old hard drive which did not fail though the pc it came from was useless. It works fine and was easy to install the internal HD removed from my old laptop to use with a new machine.

The mother board went out on my old Dell machine. Since the hard drive was fine, I was able to pull the drive and get data moved to a different laptop. Could not believe that it all worked so well a forum described.

I bought a new SSD this is a great external encloser for my old laptop HD . I used it when i cloned my old drive to the new SSD and now with my old laptop drive installed I have I have an external drive for storage

I needed to access my prior year's income tax return on my old computer, which was no longer working. By putting the old hard drive in the enclosure I was able to print out my prior year's tax return.

Good enclosure at a decent price. Simple to use and install HD into. I have 3 now with SanDisk SSD drives and no problems yet.

Straight forward enclosure for your hard drive. Comes with a small screw driver, unscrew opening, plug-in your drive, slide it into enclosure and screw the opening back on. Done!

The drive fit well into the connector and was even more snug after using the included screws to tighten the two covers together. The enclosure is well-built and works well using the USB 3.0 cable.

This is the second one I purchased. Very easy to install the hard drive and get it up and running.
