Perfectly simple solution

The laptop monitor and motherboard were smashed and not worth fixing but I was pretty certain the drive was good. Sure enough after a couple of screws to remove the drive from laptop and 'drop' into this enclosure, plug in and I was good to go. Took me a bit to figure out how to reset permissions to access all the files on the drive but the USB 3.0 connection for transfers is amazing.

Does the job, a little more expensive than others.

Clearly there are a lot of VERY cheaply made enclosures on Amazon that are easily 3 times less expensive. This enclosure is solidly made and does pretty well as a basic enclosure. I haven't done any performance tests so I can't attest to any of that. If I had any complaint it would be that they should include some type of rubberized cushion for slimmer drives so they don't bounce around inside the enclosure.
