This coating can get into the rice and enter the digestive system where it lodges itself in the walls of the stomach, and it can cause cancer. I understand that I get what I pay for,

Solution to this problem is put a square piece of wax paper large enough to rest on lid handle and drape over steamer. This should not cause a fire but use caution. Works great for me.
