    Disappointed in lack of longevity

I bought it to add a 4TB external HD to my Hopper3. It worked great for about 2 years and then suddenly just stopped. And, no, it was not the hard drive itself, because I put it in a Sabent HD caddy and my 4TB carried on as before. I'm very disappointed that this docking station didn't last any longer than 2 years.

Fit for purpose and that's good enough.

The product worked as intended without issue or undue fiddling. No real special features to clinch a fifth star bit also no huge negatives to knock the fourth one off. Price falls at about average for equivalent units from other large brick and mortar retailers.

Had a blowout, losing drives in storm. Backups on another drive but faulty drive...Used this device without having to swap out sata drives in PC and managed to recover all by copying backups to a non-faulty drive with this docking station. Also used to clone master C drive.

    PLEASE HELP!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have a 21.5inch iMac mid-2011 running High Sierra 10.13.6. which has one Thunderbolt 2 input and the rest USB 2.0. I have an external Seagate Barracuda 3000GB 3.5in SATA which was previously housed in a Seagate Backup Plus Thunderbolt Desktop housing. I removed the HD from the plastic housing, inserted it correctly into the Insignia Dual HD Dock, ran the USB cable from my iMac USB port (type A) to the Insignia USB 3 (IN) port (type B). When I power up the Insignia Dock, I can hear the HD spool up, but it never shows up in my iMac and the "Drive 1" light never lights or flickers. Is this unit backwards compatible with USB 2? Is there any reason that there is an issue because it was previously Thunderbolt? I assumed the TB only mattered to the housing not the hard drive. Any help is appreciated!

    No Transfer Between Drives

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

It’s cool for what it is. But guess I assumed wrong when I figured you could easily transfer files between the two bays. Guess it can’t read and write at the same time. That or there’s something really wrong with my laptop cause explorer freezes every time I try.

VERY disappointed. I bought this product only about 2 to 3 years ago, and used it about 1 to 2 times. I wanted to use it just now and even followed the directions on setting it up but no lights and it was never recognized by 2 different desktop computers. Don't buy.
