I replaced my 20yr old receiver with this one. Very nice product. Bluetooth paired to our phones on the first try. We are thinking about buying another one. You can't go wrong if you buy one.

Terrible low end, bad bass curve.

Features are cool, neat Bluetooth connectivity, but I bought it for sound. Clean n loud, but the bass controll is 0, +2, +4...to,10 both ways, made my big home speakers sound like a boom box. No loudness would have been ok, but the bass boost is too high in frequency. Also didn't like the fact there are no front panel controls for treble n bass, but turned out irrelevant since it sounded so terrible. I really did want to keep I for the power and options at $100, even my wife said it sounded horrible during a blind test comparing it to an old denon.

Sturdy unit, accepts banana plugs or you can just insert the speaker wire and tighten. Runs very cool, my unit runs daily at a reasonable volume with about 3-4 inches of breathing room in the entertainment center and is always cool to the touch. The Bluetooth is dummy proof and the aux3 input on the front is a nice bonus. 1/4 inch headphone jack, sleep timer and ability to dim or shut off display round out this no-frills Stereo Receiver.

I nearly bought another Sony to replace the 20 YO one that broke. However, upon further research, I saw that this one had bluetooth and the similarly priced Sony did not. I also wanted to hook up 2 sets of speakers, which is fairly standard, but the Insignia had that as well. Overall, easy to set up and very user friendly. Also, the sound quality is very good for the price. I'm happy with my purchase.

I give it five stars for my use and the Bluetooth is a plus. I got this on sale for $80 saving $50. This is a great product for your basement, garage or workshop. For a home entertainment unit, I would only give it three stars. If you want big sound with loads of options you need to pay for that.....

Very good basic performance. Adequate power for KEF104/2 speakers. Very good versatility with sufficient aux inputs. Very good FM reception but will not switch automatically from stereo to mono as signal falters. Easy to set up. Clean styling with no gimmicks and nonsense. Great value.

I bought this receiver for a garage unit to play outdoor speakers at a pool.I was able to get a good deal in the open box section of the store. it was easy to hook up and operate, Sounds good on FM. Only complaint is the Bluetooth. It plays at a volume 50% less at least than FM. Also hooked up a XM Satellite receiver. it sounds good too. I connect with a Apple iPhone 6s. Not sure why the volume completely dies out on Bluetooth. maybe I'M doing something wrong. Read a lot of reviews on this unit seems like I am the only one with this issue.

Nice Receiver For What It Is

I purchased this receiver a year ago when it was on sale for $99. I haven't used it very much until most recently and the sound quality is quite good, especially with the bluetooth that uses the superior AptX codec. I use either the 8 Ohm Polk T-15 or the Klipsch Reference R-51M speakers on this receiver and they sound great since they are good match. Running low impedance speakers below 8 ohms can cause overheating and damage to the power output stage of this receiver. A loudness contour switch and / or bass boost control would be a good addition to this receiver, but the sound quality is good for what it is and the price paid. The Insignia NS-STR514 is comparable to the Sherwood RX-4508 / RX-4502 (minus phono input) and is manufactured by Inkel which is Sherwood's parent company.

My Story: I had a good minicomponent. The ants made their home inside the receiver. It stopped working it was a real mess. My decision buy another one and this was really cheap and I thought to give it a try. I bought it at a Best Buy Store. It was a big surprise: the sound is excellent, very clear, no noise. I like music but high fidelity. I had before a Marrantz, Onkyo, Sanyo [didn't like] and now this steal. Onkyo used to get very hot [good with cold weather], but this unit after hours still cool. Now I can recommend it.

I bought this just to run my rock speakers around my pool. The built in Bluetooth was the selling point for me and the sleek design. I would have liked a little more power but for the price it is an awesome product,

I'm replacing a 30 y/o Kenwood receiver in my shed. Got this on DoDay with points, $20 out the door. I would've paid full price. Few bells but the whistle is sweet!! Why spend more?!

Purchased this receiver to replace a 19 year old Pioneer that stopped working. I have this one in my garage with a pair of bookshelf speakers and a pair of outdoor speakers facing our deck. Set up went very easy and I couldn't be happier with the sound quality! Primarily purchased this one to stream Pandora and the pairing was the easiest of any device I have ever used. Didn't purchase extended warranty as the price of the unit is so low.

    This unit is okay...

I'll try to make this review very short and specifically aimed at the audiophile. If you plan to use this unit to listen to music, especially through headphones, keep looking. This unit is not designed for that purpose. I bought this unit to listen to vinyl albums. Connected it to an Audio-Technica LP120 turntable & used Audio-Technica M50x professional studio monitor headphones. Running through the right receiver, vinyl albums sound INCREDIBLE with this combination. Not with this receiver though. The soundstage has a substantial imbalance. Highs can get very piercing and mid tones are very fat and dominant. Lows, even on the highest level, are not strong enough. This is okay if you are listening to older music, but if you're a fan of dance and hip-hop music, you will be disappointed. I tried switching to very high-end Bowers and Wilkins headphones and it made the situation worse. The Audio-Technica headphones were better at compensating the lack of bass from the receiver; the Bower and Wilkin's (already outstandingly balanced) had almost a complete lack of bass altogether. To make a long story short, I really wanted to like this unit, but it is not designed for critical music listening. Really, I'm not sure if I like it for casual listening either. Sound lacks muscle in this unit and I find myself constantly adjusting the bass and treble to compensate for the music I'm listening to. Not good.

I picked up this received for my shop. I didn't want to spend a ton of money being the abuse it may receive. So far I am very impressed with the sound, features and durability. More features than high cost receivers, plus Bluetooth compatible. Definitely worth more that it cost.

I needed something to power some old decent bookshelf speakers and this unit seems to handle that just fine, so I snagged this and set it up the garage. I'd be hesitant to set up large speakers, this unit might struggle a bit with that. The BT was easy to set up with an IPAD. If you're into HI-FI sound then this is probably not for you, there's scant options to adjust the sound; the treble is a bit too "tinny" IMO. But... I got this on sale for under $100, so kinda hard to complain about that. I'm not an audiophile, but I do appreciate 1/2 way decent sound and I'm satisfied so far. It seems to be well built too.

Solid But For One Huge Annoyance...

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is a solid stereo receiver if all you need is a few inputs and a Bluetooth option. The problem I have with it is the "Dimmer" option to turn off the display - it resets to 'On' ANYTIME another button is pushed, including the volume. This makes it fairly useless, so the only options is the black tape over the display area. Because of the all "it broke 2 days after the warranty ran out" reviews on the internet, I also got the extended warranty. If they'd had the slightly higher priced Yamaha in stock at the store, I probably would have gone with that.
