The tabs are like the childproof electrical outlet tabs, but these are nearly impossible to push aside. I had to remove this and reinstall the old duplex outlet. I had high hopes this would work out well, but no. Talking with the Best Buy people in the store trying to explain the problem, was very frustrating. Best Buy has the very good tech "Geek Squad" . I must have been talking with the zombie squad.

It appeared that my iPhone wouldn’t “recognize the device” so it wouldn’t charge. I returned immediately. My primary use for using the USB charging ports would be for the family’s multiple iPhones and this wouldn’t serve my needs. It may work for other devices

Since my existing electrical box, which I assume is a standard size, is barely more than 2" deep there was no way to tuck the wires back in behind it. Before you buy remove a plug and measure the depth of your box. You would need at least 3-4 inches clearance to get this seated.

One let out a very loud hiss every time anything was plugged into it. The second wouldn't let me plug anything in that has a grounding plug. Overall I would suggest purchasing something else.

It had some obstruction that forced me to jam the cord into it. Maybe my box was defective but I would not recommend this part.
