Went to Apple's site and they recommend not using a USB 3 hub for the iPod. Should have read that first. It's sitting in my garage now hoping for a new victim.

It takes up a lot of room and weighs more than it's worth. I found a smaller, lighter USB 3.0 hub that I can power with a USB cable that plugs into my Surface Pro 3 power supply. Considerable space and weight savings.
