Connect up to 4 USB 3.0 devices to your computer through a single port with this Insignia™ NS-PCH5431 USB hub, which features 4 USB ports that support data transfer rates up to 5 Gbps for fast uploads and downloads.
Q: Can you use this just for charging devices like phones and portable chargers?
A: Yes you can use it as just a charger as it does come with a power supply for that purpose. Only one of the ports is 3A, the others are 0.5A ports. Be aware that the full capacity is 3.5A so if you have a device that truly pulls 3A in the high power port the other ports will have diminished capacity.
A: The USB 3.0 Cable is 3 feet long.
Q: What is the difference between a 2.0 usb port and a 3.0 usb port?
A: The 3.0 port has 10 times the data thru-put of 2.0, (625 MB/sec vs. 60 MB/sec). This is accomplished by using separate wire pairs for transmit and receive data where the 2.0 port uses only one set of wires for both functions. There are other architecture differences, but they are of little concern, as a 3.0 hub is backward compatible to 2.0. This means that if your computer only has a USB 2.0 connection a 3.0 hub will work perfectly with it.
Q: Does anyone know for sure if this is compatible with a system using Windows 10 ?
A: I am running a new HP Windows 10 computer. Worked without a hitch. No problem. Glad I purchased this 4 port hub.
Q: Does the hub need to be plugged into AC when it is plugged into the computer usb?
A: The answer is it depends. You can have it unplugged, but if you put devices in that exceed the power provided via the computer's USB connection (i.e., the USB connection from your laptop or other computer to the hub), then the device will not work. I believe the maximum power available without AC is 500mA.
Q: Can this hub be power from the device bus if a power supply is unavailable?
A: It DOES function without the power supply, I have it plugged in and working without the power supply as I type this. The total current of the 4 ports is just limited to whatever the USB port the hub is plugged into can supply (typically 900mA for USB 3.0).
Q: can this be used to hook up 4 xbox 360's for a LAN party.
A: This is a USB device not a LAN device! I think you need an Ethernet switch.
Q: Can the port be used on a TV?
A: No, this can not be used on a TV.
