4K TV Roku Review

First and foremost I must say Insignia brand has improved significantly since they have came out. I have purchased higher end TV's and much to no avail they all don't last past the 3 year mark. Insignia is a in store brand and they also are made with LG parts so don't assume that you get something low end. This 4K TV in particular is nice you can screen mirror your phone, smart TV with all the streaming channels imaginable and you can still connect your cable box with it. Setup literally took me no more than 10 minutes and you don't need to be super tech savy to setup. I do recommend if you're getting a roku TV to setup your account prior to purchasing the TV this makes the setup even easier. All smart TV's are geared towards mainly streaming however I do have Xfinity and a PS4. They both work on this television if that was your concern. The PS4 image is awesome, and gaming is most definitely a step up from 1080p. There is most definitely a difference between 1080p and 4K, it's just up to you if you wanna spend the extra $$ for a few extra perks. 1080p has a very deep, dark and rich colors while 4K is brighter, sharper, and images on the TV appear more realistic. If you don't care about much about details in your image quality go with a 1080p you'll thank me later! The UI is super smooth and easy to use and it's comparable with the PS4 UI for streaming. Now a few cons that might be a breaker or maker deal for you. The remote doesn't have a headphone jack, the remote is only for streaming Roku channels and you have to use a separate remote for your cable box. The sound buttons are awkwardly located on the side above the mute button which is slighty weird for me but again not a deal breaker. The audio is better than expected however if you plan to purchase this TV for a large room like living room or den maybe I would suggest purchasing a sound bar for it. If it's for a bedroom the sound quality is pretty good even though the speakers are built in the back. Also when turning the TV on it doesn't go directly into cable like we are pretty much are all use too. I thought I wouldn't like this feature but truthfully its easier than to cycle through input button on your remote. You can customize and name all of your ports which makes the selection easy. All in all I would say this TV was a great purchase and most definitely a nice upgrade.

Good deal but one big flaw

This is a very good low-end UDH TV with a major flaw that might be a deal-breaker for some. Let's get the flaw out of the way before getting to the good stuff: the viewing angle is terrible. At 30 degrees off center the colors and contrast noticeably fade. At 60 degrees the picture is almost completely washed out. If the TV is for a large room, viewers who are not directly in front of the screen will be very disappointed. If I had known about the viewing angle I probably wouldn't have gotten the Insignia. On the other hand, as a practical matter it hasn't affected our viewing because the set is in a small room.
Now to the good stuff. Head on, the HD picture is very good. It's about the same as my five year-old mid-range 42" LG, which is high praise. I haven't been able to evaluate much UHD yet, but what I've seen, mostly on Amazon and YouTube, is mixed. The UHD resolution doesn't seem much better than standard HD. Whether this is because the UHD circuitry isn't very good or because it does a great job upscaling conventional HD I can't say. In either case, the picture is impressive. The built-in ROKU works beautifully and it doesn't take long to master the ROKU-centric remote.
This may be a "low-end" or "entry level" UHD TV but that doesn't mean bare bones. About the only things I wish the set had are HDR, bluetooth and at least one more USB port. To compensate, there are neat extras that I didn't expect. The available iOS and Android apps are impressive and provide a level of control over settings that the built-in settings don't. For example, they allow you to individually control the audio/visual settings on each of the HDMI and RF inputs. Unlike the IR remote, the apps are wifi based and don't require a direct line of sight to the TV.
Other bonuses: The on/off/standby light can be set to be always off. The usb port can be used for a thumb drive which will record paused signals from the RF connector, that is, from an over-the-air antenna or a cable that doesn't use a set-top box. This has turned out to be very handy, and works well with two qualifications. First, this is not a true DVR. When you change stations or power off, the recording is lost. Second, although the manual says a 16 GB or larger USB drive will work, my experience is that only 32G or larger will.
More unexpected pros: the sound is remarkably good. If you want a soundbar or headphones or a pass through to an audio receiver, there are connections for all of those (except via bluetooth). For good measure there is also an optical audio output. Antenna OTA reception is better than cable.
Finally, after a month the set has held up well with no glitches of any kind. It seems well made. Time will tell how reliable it is. If it does break after the Best Buy 15-day return period, it has to be shipped at the customer's expense to a repair facility. So far, though, so good.

We bought this as a gift for my wife’s 25ty anniversary, she always hinted about a tv and we wanted a all in one smart tv. We were on a budget so I began doing my usual read all the reviews. The complaints about this tv were minimal such as angle of view, which for us wasn’t an issue because it’s a bedroom tv. The sound is really good and the picture is amazing. I bought a PS4 Pro and hooked it up and WOW!! This set can really perform. We were all in awe watching Netflix in HDR mode! Super clear resolution without that soap box/opera look. We didn’t want that effect so don’t worry this set doesn’t have that weird looking picture. The colors are super bright and we love the Roku!! Just wish the remote had a light, the nice thing about that is the phone app so problem solved.

Bought this to use as a monitor for my PC.
The important, it does chroma 4:4:4 @ 60hz, and though not listed also supports HDR as well. All of this is with absolutely no noticeable input lag. Gaming is incredibly immersive at this size and resolution at desktop viewing ranges.
It works great with Windows 10, super easy to dock windows so you can watch netflix @ full 1080p in the bottom corner of your desktop while browsing the web or working on multiple open projects with a ton of screen real estate. It's really nice, like next level nice; and with a decent PC makes computing feel appropriately high end, almost futuristic.
@ a $300 price point, Treat Yo'self to this tv and go do outrageous stuff like download 4k videos of animals or the grand canyon, then set them as your desktop wallpaper, it is AMAZING. I have baby penguins at play set it as my desktop, it's like having a window into a zoo.
People will be jealous.

I bought this TV on sale and got a great price and it's a great product pictures really fantastic the only issue I have with it is the remote control has to be pointed at the bottom left corner to change the channel and make up and down the functions to work that drives me crazy. Other than that I'd say really great product.

This tv is a great addition to my bedroom. It was so easy to set up. Literally had it finished and was watching it in under ten minutes. I love having the Roku and Netflix all right there on the menu, not to mention Vudu, Hulu, and Amazon, and all the other channels or subscriptions you have for streaming content.
I also download lots of movies onto a portable drive and this tv allows you to hook it up to one of the 3 HDMI ports and access that drive.
I would have given it 4.5 stars if I could, but the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because of the speakers. They are on the back of the tv and I just don’t understand why Insignia insists on doing that. But the sound is still good but you have to turn it up louder than you would if the speakers were in the front.
Great picture, great options, great price!

I thought I was going to buy a Sony 4K but the picture on this TV looked just as good and was half the price. I also liked the Roku interface better than the Sony Android interface (seemed snappier).
Pros:
- 4K HDR. Good brightness and crispness in HD content.
- Very light (less than 20 lbs if mounting)
- Roku OS and remote make it very easy to watch Netflix
- Very good price
- Lots of settings. I like that you can set the TV to turn on to the last HDMI source. Other TVs insist on going to the home screen.
- HDMI-ARC input is very nice to use with soundbars that also support HDMI-ARC so that TV remove controls soundbar power and volume.
- Built-in WIFI works great
Cons:
- Speakers are meh and project out of the bottom of the TV. Usable but I added a soundbar
- Backlighting is not completely uniform on my TV. I only notice it at night during very dark scenes with black backgrounds. The black looks like 4 different shades of very dark gray.
- Only 3 HDMI inputs, 2 on the side and 1 on the back. The 1 on the back is hard to access if wall mounted.
- Remote has dedicated buttons for Netflix (yes!), Sling TV (meh), Google Play (meh) and Hulu (meh). I wish I could reprogram some of the buttons to launch apps I actually use like Amazon Video and HBO Now.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a high quality smart tv that was on the cheaper side. A best buy employee showed us this tv and we were really impressed with the picture. We usually buy more common brands but all the reviews were great on this so we decided to go with it. We have had no problems yet. Highly reccomend for someone who is looking for a cheaper but awesome quality smart tv!

If you are looking for a good tv I recommend this one! I got it for a good price *totaling $260.69 after taxes* replacing my 720p tv and I'm in love with it!! Roku TV's are the easiest and best smart
TVs that exsist and this tv being a 4k makes it that much better in my opinion! I also rented a 4k movie and the picture and the overall experience of watching a movie in 4k was breathtaking and amazing!! Tbh the picture was better than a movie theater screen in my opinion! I love this tv and you will too!

I am extremely impressed with this tv. I have always been very stubborn about only buying a big name brand before but I wanted to save some money this time around. I checked other reviews which were very favorable, and have not been disappointed at all. This screen has great color, no flashlighting, no motion blur when watching tv shows, and I really love the built in Roku. When I watch Netflix in 4K I also get HDR which was not advertised but is supported. For the money you can't beat this value and I am extremely happy.

Very clear picture, good price, various app options, and easy to use. I watch cable tv through one of the apps and the only downfall is that the picture gets a little blurry now and then. It usually corrects itself after a few minutes or you can just change the channel then go back and it's fine.

Been wanting a 4K for some time now, but felt like it was too expensive. Luckily, $299 was more my price range. This is a beautiful TV and I love that Roku is already built in. If you have a smartphone, you can even use it as a remote and turn the TV on and off! Sounds ridiculous, I know, but I think it's pretty cool. If you want the quality but can't shell out an insane amount of $, this is your 4K TV.

I don’t know a super ton about different brands and what not but I went to the store to purchase. The sales woman was beyond helpful. She was very patient, answered all my questions and was extremely knowledgeable. After her advice I went with 4K insignia 43” and I couldn’t be happier. It being once of the less expensive brands I got it for a great price and have had it about 5 months with not a single issue. I have a PS4 with the apps so wasn’t sure how much I would use the smart TV features but I couldn’t believe all the things to choose from. I honestly will never pay for cable in my life. The 4K definition is amazing too! Everything looks amazing, only issue I can say this TV has is I do watch a lot of older movies and they tend to show up pretty fuzzy on this. I normally just end up watching them on my bedroom TV instead but other ways it’s perfect. I love all the settings and ways you can customize everything as well. I would highly recommend going with this one and save the extra money you would normally have to spend buying an LG or Samsung.

Ok, firstly, I am a bit of a techy. I build my own gaming PCs and buy just about any new technology that is released. I held off on 4K, mostly due to a lack of content and price. Now 4K TVs are reasonably priced and in this case, ridiculously priced. I have owned one Insignia prior to this purchase and it was pretty decent and a 1080p TV. When I saw this 43" 4K TV on sale for $299 I figured it was going to be a rather poor quality TV. I went ahead and got it since it was priced so well and hooked it up and boy was I surprised. First I tried my PC with Grand Theft Auto 5, it looked incredible. I could not believe how crisp and clean the graphics looked, not to mention, it made any game look incredibly clean and crisp. I was weary of the 60Hz refresh rate since typically there was a lot of talk of a 4K TV for gaming should be at least 120Hz, but to be honest I haven't really noticed any issues. If anything my GTX970 graphics card has trouble running games at anything higher than 30fps, but I'm ok with that. Movies look amazing too, even 1080p movies look really clean compared to a 1080p TV. I use it for internet browsing, gaming, and even writing papers for school and it does incredibly well with all of them. The built in Roku is also quite nice. Unlike any other Roku I've owned (3 of them), this version runs quickly and very smooth, I've had no issues with it and wished my Vizio's operating system ran that fast. Overall I would highly recommend this TV, especially at its sale price of $299, that's a steal.

We have enjoyed this tv thus far. It is set up in our bedroom. It has ROKU apps built in so we can stream Netflix, HBOgo, SHOWTIME anytime, Amazon, etc without having to have a separate player. Only negative is that I cannot control my DirecTv box with the remote. Picture is wonderful for the price point.

I'm so happy with this TV. It has a terrific picture, decent sound and some great features not found in other brands/models.
One of the things I liked from reading other reviews is that you can plug in a USB flash drive and pause or back up any ROKU or OTA (Over The Air (antenna)) source for up to 90 minutes. You need a 16 GB memory stick to achieve this. It's only temporary storage. If you change channels, the timer starts over and you lose the past 90 minutes you had stored. But, if you get a phone call, need a quick necessary break or whatever, you can back up and catch up on what you missed. Or, pause it and restart when you're ready. It's the next best thing to having a real video recorder. And, a 16GB flash drive is dirt cheap.
This set has a wonderful picture that looks great from anywhere in the room. You don't need to be sitting straight in front to get a nice image.
ROKU is pretty neat. I always thought it was a pay service. It can be. But, there is a monstrous amount of free programming available. You won't lack for something to watch. Of course, you do need a WiFi connection to stream the service.
If you live away from cable, or are tired of paying ridiculous fees, this TV does a great job of picking up OTA channels. Mine replaced an older Sony unit that I thought did a decent job of receiving antenna signals. This set immediately picked up way more channels and they are solid as a rock. No dropouts. I made absolutely no changes to my antenna. I just unplugged it from the Sony and plugged it into this Insignia. I was worried it wouldn't be as good as the Sony. Not to worry. It beats the Sony hands down.
I don't know if this set will be as dependable as my 10+ year old Sony has been. But, Best Buy's extended warranty was cheap enough to make that a non-issue for me.
Buy one of these sets. You'll love it. I do.
