Quality product - cheap price - great value
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the low profile right offset wall plug as it makes room for other plugs in the wall outlet. The protector is also slim in design although that is not important in my application. So far, it works well, but be careful of the on/off switch on the end of the protector as it is easy to bump and turn off. The LED lights at one end on top show when it is powered on. The spacing for wall warts on all 4 outer plugs allows room for more than just narrow plugs and is well thought out and designed. The diameter of the extension cord wire would suggest this can handle the full 15 amps (1875 watts) of the power supply source, but I did not verify the gauge wire they use. I cannot rate the joules capacity of the surge protector but will assume it is as advertised. The only addition I would ask for is to have a couple of USB-A and a couple of USB-C power taps on the end with the LEDs. Just from a visual perspective, it appears to be well built with high quality components. A quality product for a cheap price.

Good basic surge protector
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia 8-outlet surge protector provides ample expansion of a wall outlet along with the piece of mind of protection against electrical surges. It's rated to 1200 joules, so perhaps it is not the best, protection-wise, for very high end computers or home theater equipment, but it's good for smaller electronics. The cord is very long, which does provide some placement versatility but for many you may need to some cord management. The device's switch is on the end near where the cord enters. The 8 outlets are smartly placed to allow for AC adapters to fit, with an arrangement of 2 outlets, a large space, then 4 outlets clustered, and then another gap before the final two. Two green LEDs provide indication of grounding and protection, which is helpful. While unobtrusively black, it was surprisingly glossy in places and was a magnet for fingerprints. That may not matter much if you're hiding it behind or underneath furniture, but it's something to be aware of if placing in a more conspicuous location. Overall, this is a perfectly serviceable surge protector for small electronic devices. The plug placement is good for adapters and the cord is plenty long enough.

Good budget protection
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia 8-Outlet 1,200 Joules Surge Protector is a relatively small package for lite duty surge protection. When searching for any surge protection you should determine what amount of Joules protection you may need. For example a simple search finds a Joules rating of 1,000 to 2,000 is recommended for basic electronics such as cell phones, laptops and other office devices. For something like a TV you should be looking at a Joules rating of 3,000 or more. Another factor might be if the surge protector offers insurance coverage. This Insignia protector offers up to $30,000 of insurance protection. Probably the most important feature is the A/C plug layout and if you can get all of the devices you need connected. I think Insignia has made a good decision here as you could get up to 4 of the wider A/C power adapters and 4 of the normal A/C plugs on this protector. Although any adapter might take up more than you planned. The surge protector has two LED indicators. One to indicate you have a good ground and the second to verify you are actually protected. There is a master on/off switch which is always welcomed. The power cord is long at 6FT for such a light duty protector. It's worth mentioning that the A/C plug is shaped so that you don’t block the second A/C outlet when plugged in. The size at around 8.5” long and 3.5” wide is nice and compact. It is also slotted on the bottom if you want to wall mount. Being such a compact protector it could even fit on a desktop. There is no USB charging. Overall it's a nice compact unit that can be used almost anywhere. This is a relatively light duty surge protector and there are lots of choices if you're looking for a feature left off here. I have always found Insignia to be a good value and do perform as expected. How any surge protector performs in its lifetime is impossible to predict. It's a good idea to choose your electrical devices from a brand you know.

Functions as it Should
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Insignia's 1200J, 8-outlet surge protector is a slim, well-designed product. I appreciate the plug spacing which allows for use of devices with larger charging or power bricks. Other nice additions are the flush mount outlet plug and lengthy, offset power cord allowing for more versatile placement. The sockets are solid and hold the plugs firmly in place. The overall shell is not the most sturdy or premium design. There is some give and flex on some areas of the surge protector. However, given the price point it is on par with others in the same category. Seeing as how I can't simulate a power surge, I cannot speak to the overall protection abilities. What I can say is I have found no hot spots or heating issues with multiple devices plugged in. Overall I am pleased with the function and form of this surge protector. It is neatly tucked away behing my desk, powers my devices without issue, and has plenty of sockets for more devices should I need them. I would recommend this surge protector if you need an inexpensive outlet.

Affordable Quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With Insignia being a Best Buy house brand, You get affordable products that fit your needs. This particular Surge Protector appears to be a replacement for the 8 outlet 600 joules design with this New 8 outlet 1200 joules design to be more compatible with todays electrical demands. This protector now has a 6 foot power cord which I think better accomodates todays larger credenzas for larger TV's or limited access to wall outlets. The protector that I am replacing is much heavier than the Insignia and leaves me to wonder whats under the hood so-to-speak! This is a very straight forward design and very small with 8 outlets that are well placed for spacing between cords. If I had to pick one outstanding feature...The plugs fit tightly into the sockets as if they were locked into place. I have had other protectors where the plugs were loose in the sockets and easily pulled out. There is a power button on the end and 2 LED's to let you know it is working. You should consider replacing your surge protector approximately every 2 years, especially if it is constantly powered on as it will eventually loose its ability to protect. One sign of that is if you start to see erratic behavior with your devices, especially if they power off unexpectantly.

convenient to use, versatile
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very useful product for a computer desk, where you need surge protection and also have a number of devices to plug in. In my situation, in addition to the computer, I have two monitors, a sound bar, a stand-alone scanner, a laser printer, and a color inkjet all-in-one. All told, that’s seven devices. That this surge protector has eight outlets is ideal. The outlets vary in their spacing so something like a large-ish power adapter, something common with computer speakers, can be plugged in without covering an adjacent outlet. The protector is light and easy to attach to solid surface. I have mine mounted on the inside of the foot space of my computer desk. Very convenient. There is a power switch on one end so the entire unit can be powered on and off. A surge protector is there to protect your electronics from an unexpected power surge, something you hope never happens. So just like a fire-escape on an apartment building, you put it in place hoping it’s never needed. But it also functions all the time as a power strip, and at the price of this one, it’s a very good investment.

Essential hardware - well laid out
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's not hard to find a surge protector for your home. Finding a good surge protector, however, can be trying to say the least. There are an abundance of options out there that are under-powered, feature nonsensical outlet layouts, or just look ugly. This one is none of those. It's got pretty much all the features you might need for a surge protector for your computer or small appliances. The 1,200 joule rating is high enough to handle a high powered gaming rig, a few small appliances, or anything else you might be trying to plug into it. The low profile plug offsets cord to one side, helping make sure it won't block a standard outlet if plugged into the top position. The cord itself is long enough to give you plenty of options when positioning it and doing cable management. And the outlets are well laid out, with a 50/50 mix of closely grouped plugs suitable for standard three prong cords and separated ones that can accommodate larger power bricks without blocking the neighboring outlets. All in all, it's a solid pick for the home or office.

Great surge protector
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very nice surge protector, with a thick sturdy 6 ft cable, and a 3 prong plug that plugs flush against your outlet. The surge protector has the on/off switch on the top, near the wire, which seems to make a lot more sense than putting the on/off switch on the face. It's actually incredibly lightweight, I was expecting it to be much heavier than it is. This surge protector has screw holes on the back so you can mount it flight against the wall. It also has a nice LED indicator to show if the sockets are grounded and protected. I really like how the wire is thick, but not too heavy, because it's doesn't bunch up and cause the surge protector to turn on it's side. I think the one downside is this device doesn't have any USB-A or USB-C plugs, which would have been a really nice addition. Overall, pretty happy with this surge protector. It's pretty basic, but it seems like it's very well made, and overall feels sturdy. The flat plug is a huge plus for me, because I am feeding the wire behind my computer desk, which sits flush against the wall.
