I did have to by an extension cord as well since the cord on this was only about 4 feet and I didn't have an outlet that close.

The directions state that this surge protector should not be plugged into an outlet unless there is at least 30 feet of distance between the outlet and the master fuse box; otherwise there is a possible fire hazard.
