Customers have good things to say about the 80W Audio System's sound quality, Bluetooth connectivity, CD player, and price. They appreciate its simple and easy-to-use design, compact size, remote control, and retro look. Some customers find the volume to be too loud when turned on and the size to be a bit large. A few customers wish the display could show the name of the MP3 being played and that it had AM radio in addition to FM.

Nice sound in a great form factor

Don't typically write reviews, and while this is not an audiophile system, vocals and mids are extremely clear, the highs are loud and symbols bright, and the bass is great for the form factor of this stereo when used in about a 200 square foot room. Since the sub is mounted on the bottom, I'd strongly recommended placing this on a solid wood surface near a wall or corner. This stereo is also handsome af, I mean look at it. Compared to one of those orbs of molded plastic known as the modern boombox, I would take this any day. There is a mild buzz in the lower mid-range from the metal grill vibrating a bit during sustains, but compared to whatever is happening with the plastic orb boomboxes, this occasional metallic buzz is not significant for me. Love it.

Great Sound/Bad Bluetooth

The good-
Simplistic design makes for ease of use. Size is perfect for setting into built in's around your home or next to a fire place. The finish is ok standard chipboard with thin vinyl (wood look) appearance. Cd player works wonderfully for people who are actually old enough to know what a cd is. The tuner also seems to work very well I was quite surprised by this as most modern radios really seem to lack picking anything up with clarity. The remote is full of features and is very handy.
The bad-
I bought this for a house warming gift for my parents. They recently down sized and moved into a town home. I thought this would be perfect not to large not to small. To my surprise they love using the blue tooth feature of this device. The blue tooth in this device must be some generic off the self add on however. Because the first system I purchased the blue tooth quit functioning in less then a weeks time. My father had contacted insignia on the phone and after assistance from the Insignia staff member was instructed it was in fact defective. Best buy was very helpful in exchanging this product over the counter with another. The second one is now acting up with Blue tooth issues. Just an fyi to people actually interested in a honest review of the product.. If blue tooth being a function of this device is not imperative. I would suggest to go ahead and buy it. If blue tooth is a must have of this device I wouldn't count it working for very long. God bless and Happy Holidays.

It clips! The amp is being over driven to give more watts at less quality. Eat time I hear it I only get ((not happy)) And why does this need a boot sequence??? People should stop designing with microprocessors and just go analog.

Good product ... customer service less so

This product does it all and I am pleased with it so far. My only disappointment is that I can only shuffle an entire USB stick, not by the individual directories on that stick. But I am happy with the product - good sound, Bluetooth connects & plays wonderfully, brings in my favorite FM station clearly, loads my USB stock quickly. However, I paid $99.99 for it on July 13 online. It was on sale for $89.99 the subsequent week. I picked it up on the 17th, asking about a price match and was told it could not be done in the store. So this morning I tried to do it online thru BB's chat service and it wasn't working. Upon calling (it took a while to find the phone number), I was told the price match had to have been done yesterday (real time), the day of pick-up, yet I was not told that in the store. It's only a $10 difference, but it does seem that BestBuy needs to have honored it since I tried in the store upon pick up, $89.99 printout in hand, to do the price match. Seems like poor customer service to me; be careful trying to price matching with Best Buy!

Great Shelf System

Looking for a Shelf system with out detachable speakers? This is it. Looked at the Bose Wave Music System IV and the Yamaha TSX-B235, The Insignia is only missing AM radio and random mode on the CD/MP3 player. The sub-woofer makes up for those short comings. Better sound and more inputs than the Bose and less then a third the price. Better sound than the Yamaha and less then half the price. How can you beat that?
Pros – Sub-woofer / Price
Cons – Size, no Random mode

Impressive classic table radio performance!

I bought this for my son who is a hardcore computer gamer but also a budding musician. I was seeking a device that could connect to this Alienware laptop via Bluetooth for gaming fun, but also so that he could enjoy a wide range of music both streaming on his PC as well as on FM and off his MP3s. This radio is a modern version of some of the classic wood-box sweet sounding stereos many of us grew up with. With the solid subwoofer, and 80 discrete amps of clean sound, this is one modern take on the classic table radio. It rocked his mancave (basement) on the first use, and pairing the Bluetooth to the computer was seamless. I HIGHLY recommend this against all the waterproof Bluetooth portable speaker options. They lack musical soul as compared to this. The box gives the speakers room to resonate in a natural way, and the power of the amp is impressive. Highly recommended as a first great stereo, dormroom solution, or office soundsystem. This is Best Buy's store brand...and boy are they doing a great job!

I was looking for a radio/CD player for my kitchen. I didn't want an under counter system but something to sit on a counter. I came across this and after reading all the positive reviews, I thought I'd give it try. I love the fact that it looks like a vintage late 70's early 80's stereo (reminds me of my parent's old stereo that we loved), the sound is great with good bass, the system is super easy to use and it fit perfect on my counter. I also like the blue tooth feature. Great quality for the price too! Thanks Best Buy!

This stereo is awesome! Sounds great. I bought it on sale for $79.99 and can't believe the sound coming out of it. Even for $149.99 its a great deal. The bluetooth connection is easy to pair. The retro look is why i bought it but the sound totally blew me away. The 5 preset EQ's are pretty good. I keep mine on Rock to hear more bass. I wish the cord was a little longer but an extension cord does the trick.

I've had this system for over 3 years now and it works and looks GREAT! I love the sleek retro design. Simple and easy to setup. I also use blutooth to play music from my phone. My friends think it's an expensive system. Love it and highly recommended!

I'm an audiophile with a pretty decent main system. I got this for a second home, not expecting much at this price. Extremely impressed. Heavy, will made, great power. The subwoofer adds some really nice low end punch. Main speakers are decent though the metal grills aren't doing the sound any favors but I'm waiting for the speakers to break in a bit more. Better tone controls would be a huge plus. Bought this on a big sale and would buy another.

Excellent Stereo

This stereo has excellent sound quality, volume and looks like vintage audio equipment. It was on sale and the price was excellent as well as the service at Bestbuy. It has a lot of many different inputs, and I used a Chromecast audio to stream internet based music. The sub woofer provides solid low end. This is a fantastic product and value.

I just got this and have only used it for an hour, but so far so good. The sound and bass from the subwoofer is pretty good for $80. I haven't found a retro design this good anywhere, let alone for this price. It is a bit larger than I was expecting (ordered online), but not too bad and adds a bit to the retro look. I did have an issue attempting to play music via bluetooth from a Samsung S6 (it would play very softly). But Samsung CS told me to got to Settings >> General Management >> Reset >> Reset Network Settings, and select "Reset Settings". It worked.

It's a shame it got discontinued. The sound quality is really amazing considering that it's really affordable, and not from a brand like Bose. It's very rich, very clear. I love listening to classical on it. But it can handle any genre I throw at it.
Bonus it looks really classy, very unassuming. It's put together well.
If I could change anything, I would add a couple of RCA inputs towards the back. I'd also add an AM receiver, or maybe an HD tuner.
If you could find one in good condition used, snag it.

I like the look of vintage audio equipment, and this has a strong 1970's HiFi vibe. At the same time, I wanted a modern music system that would pair with my iPhone via Bluetooth. When I saw this unit on sale for $80, I replaced my old office sound system (a Panasonic unit with dual eight tracks and classic Realistic two-way speakers).
The look of the Insignia is spot-on old-school minimalist cool. The gold tone is subtle, the pinhole circles for the speakers are classy, and I like the big white LED display. There are enough buttons on the console to handle basic functions, plus a big, classic knob for volume control.
The remote is typical Insignia - basic, black, and it gets the job done. There are some functions only available through the remote, so don't lose it!
The cut-outs for the USB port and 1/8" headphone and aux-in ports on the front mar the design in my opinion, but they are placed well for convenience. There are NO ports on the back, so if you plan to use the aux in, you'll have a cable plugged into the front of the unit.
The sound quality of this unit is good. It's an overstatement to compare it to a Bose Wave radio, but it sounds nice. There is a bottom-facing woofer to complement the front stereo speakers, plus a port on the back. The bass is pretty muted at low volumes (my 40-year-old Panasonic sounded better at the lowest levels), but the sound really rounds out as the volume is turned up. For my medium-sized office, this is all the sound I need.
The radio, which is FM only, does fine picking up stations using the wire antenna included in the box. I've also played an audio CD, and that works well. But the money feature for me is Bluetooth. This unit connected to my iPhone 8 with a little patience and fiddling - I just followed the instructions in the manual. Since then, when I switch the unit to Bluetooth and start music playing on my phone, it connects within a few seconds and plays reliably. Perfect for what I need!
One other note - the unit is surprisingly deep physically. It didn't fit on the bookshelf where I wanted to put it until I made some adjustments to the shelf so the front feet on the Insignia didn't hang off the edge. Because of the bottom-firing subwoofer, this unit does need to sit with all four feet on a solid surface to give a one-inch gap underneath.
In summary, this is surprisingly nice for a cheap radio. I've been using it for several weeks now. At the list price of $150, there aren't too many options that offer the same features and sound quality, but I'd still shop around. However, when it's on sale for $80, it is hard to beat!

I wanted a decent sound system for my apartment without taking up a lot of room. This shelf system exceeded my expectations! It is solidly built, looks and sounds great. The sound fills out my apartment very nicely. It is easy to set up and switch between sources and has a very simple and clean look to it. You can't fine tune it but there are a few preset EQ settings that work just fine for my needs.
