Great compact microwave
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia .9 Cu Ft compact countertop microwave in stainless steel is a great addition and replacement to my office break room that does not take up much counter space. It measures 18.58 " in length, 10 3/4 " in height and 14 1/2 " in height. The 900 W power of the microwave as well as its 0.9 cu ft of cooking space is more than enough for everyone to reheat their lunch or snacks without any issue. It features 9 preset cooking functions for things such as pizza, popcorn to a beverage. I mainly used the beverage function to heat up my tea or hit chocolate as well as the popcorn function to make a good afternoon snack. There is a 10.6" removable glass turntable which is great for when you want to clean the turntable after any spills. Like most microwave there is an internal light that allows you to see the food while it is cooking. This microwave is not intended to heat up large portions as you would probably have to reheat things more than once at 900 W. One thing I didn't particularly like is the 2 step safety lock that is used to secure the door. It seems as if it makes the microwave more difficult to open than it should. Overall if you are looking for a good looking compact countertop microwave then look no further than this Insignia compact countertop microwave

Not because the item is bad but because Best Buy delivery saw fit to dump it in my front yard rather bring it to either door of my house. To lazy to walk up a stoop. Who does this crap. Nice Compact Microwave
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Insignia compact microwave is aesthetically pleasing. I like the stainless steel look. I bought this to help build my kitchenette at work. So far, I have not had any problems with it. I love the fact that it is compact. I have a small storage cabinet behind my desk. This Insignia compact microwave fits PERFECTLY between two shelves. I am able to keep the Insignia compact microwave hidden from sight because of its size. Although the Insignia compact microwave is a small size physically, it heats my frozen or fresh food, plates, and containers just fine. The Insignia compact microwave heats the food thoroughly and I find that the suggested cooking times for microwave use on various food products tends to be spot on. So it doesn’t take long to cook and I don’t need to keep adding time. As with any other microwave, it’s easy to clean. The Express cook time buttons are what I use most. I’ve only tried the popcorn button. I also like the fact that you can turn the sound off, so nobody has to know that I’m cooking food in my classroom. All in all, the Insignia compact microwave is a good choice and I do recommend.

small but good
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.the Insignia 9 cu ft. compact countertop microwave is everything you need in a little microwave. This microwave is very small in comparison to ones we have had in the past. If I had not gotten it online I probably would have opted for a larger one. But it does the job as we need. This microwave does fit our small plates and normal size bowls. but our square dinner plates do hit the edge. My husband HATES the express buttons on the numbers, but that is a personal preference. I do not min them. We both don't like that you have to push a button behind the handle to open the microwave. it's great if you have little little kids. but my son is always forgetting and yanking the door without hitting the button. All in all this microwave would be great for a dorm room or small house. We will probably give it away and look for a larger one for our house. The other functions of this microwave work well for what you need and are easy to figure out! if you need a small microwave don't pass on this one!

Insignia .9 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok so I just received my Insignia .9 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave a few days ago and have been putting it through the paces. Though I've had one bad experience with the Insignia brand, I decided to give the brand another try when this microwave came along seeing as how I was in the market for a new microwave. What piqued my interest in the particular model was the size and the sleek looking design as well as the price. Unboxing was fairly simple. Inside along with the microwave comes 3 User Guides (English, French, and Spanish), the Turntable Ring, and Glass Tray. So using this microwave over the course of a week now has been very pleasant. In fact, its been more impressive than I initially thought it was going to be due to it being at a lower price point than what I paid for my older microwave and also more powerful. First off, I sits comfortably on my countertop with enough space between my cabinets and space around the microwave on all sides for ventilation. And being that its black and silver, it blends in well with my other kitchen appliances. Something that may take a few times to get used to is how you open the microwave, it's a bit different than most microwaves. Simply press the button upwards on the inside of the handle to pop the door open. Even after reading the sticker that comes on the front of the door of the microwave, I still caught myself at times pulling on the handle like most microwaves are designed. After a few days it became second nature. Now to get started with cooking/reheating, you can use the preset buttons (Popcorn, Potato, Pizza, Frozen Vegetable, Beverage, Dinner Plate) on the front control panel or simply by pressing the Time Cook button and using the numbered keys to put in how long you want to cook or reheat your food items. You can also use the Express Mode by pressing key 1 thru 6 (each indicating the number of minutes, i.e. 1 for 1 minute, 2 for 2 minutes, 3 for 3 minutes and so on, up to 6 minutes). And lastly you can also simply press the Start button several times to indicate how many seconds you want to heat up your food. This is done in increments of 30 seconds with each press of the Start button. Now in terms of cooking/reheating this week, I've thoroughly enjoyed using this microwave. Like I said earlier, Insignia actually impressed me this time around. My food came out hot the first time around, whereas with my old microwave, sometimes it takes 2 and 3 times of heating my food in order for it to reach the proper temperature to my liking. The only thing that I would say is a downside (definitely not a dealbreaker) is that even though I love the fact that this microwave is very sleek looking with the silver and black finish, perhaps Insignia needs to look at somehow illuminating or lighting up the keypad for easier reading in the dark. Though most people are not cooking/reheating in complete darkness. But I really love the sleek silver/black design combo. At an amazing price and sleek design, its hard not to recommend this microwave. It simply works and I'm glad I took a gamble with this brand again.

Great size for smaller spaces
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this microwave. It is not as big as our other microwave, so I was a bit skeptical to want this. However, I am glad I chose to get this microwave. My other microwave took up a lot more space so having this microwave has given me more countertop space, and still, plenty of room to heat food. There are a couple small things that I will mention. It is still somewhat loud. This is not really an issue as this is across the board. But I would like to see them focus on trying to get microwaves to not be so loud. Just something for them to think about. The other thing is that the buttons can be a bit hard to press. You have to make sure to press them hard. This may be because I am used to keyboards that I barely have to press so I think I tend to press softly. Again, not that big a deal as this was also with other microwaves that I have had this with. They do have ways you can mute sounds if you prefer. I don't mind that part as much so did not really go into muting. I have not used the memory setting part either but if you frequently use a certain setting and time to cook a certain meal, you can preset that to save so you don't have to keep changing the power and set a time. I think you can save 3 settings. Overall, it gets the job done as expected. It is a decent size, not too big and not too small, especially if you don't have a lot of counter space.

Great little compact cooking buddy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia compact countertop microwave is a nice little addition to the kitchen, office, room you name it it does not need much space. It is nice and small and compact enough to fit nicely on the countertop. The features that it comes with makes warming the food nice and simple. If it does not have the option that you need on the quick select options, you can easily input the time manually. It warms the food up very nicely and evenly. Overall, very nice looking and simple to use microwave that will not take up much space wherever it is that you decide to use it. Cleaning it up is a breeze with the removable plate. It is very simple to set up, nothing more complicated than plugging it in and setting up the options and time as you desire. This would be great to have as an office set up or just a smaller back up for when you may need it. I would recommend having the Insignia compact microwave as an additional appliance. Pros: compact, works great to warm up the food, simple to clean, easy to use Cons: none it does what it should

Microwave
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Insignia microwave was just delivered to me and I was eager to pop it open and see what this thing can do. I know it’s not sexy or souped up like you would expect a normal kitchen microwave to be and that’s just fine with me. The purpose of this microwave is to live in a college dorm room and service the needs of two teenage boys. So for that use, this could be the perfect appliance. Let’s take a look and I’ll give my opinions on what it can and cannot do. It arrived just in the outer box that houses the microwave. I appreciate that there is no extra packaging like an outer cardboard box. Sure they can be recycled in most areas or reused but if it’s not needed then don’t use it. The box itself is not heavy. I could lift it easily and then carry it with one hand. That doesn’t sound impressive until I say that I’m just a little old lady with not too much muscle mass. If I can carry it then I think any abled-body adult (or teenager) should have no problem doing the same. Inside the box is also minimal packaging. There’s a Styrofoam cushioning at the top and the bottom of the box that holds the appliance steady and provided protection from bumps while it travels to its final destination. I’m not a fan of Styrofoam and I would have been happier if the manufactured used that cardboard egg crate material instead. That material is recyclable and reusable and I think is better for the environment overall. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no tree hugger but if I can reduce, reuse, or recycle then I’m all for it. Like most countertop microwave, it has the turntable and plastic guide ring packed outside the microwave. The unit itself is easy to remove from the box and setup is as simple as placing it where you want it to be, opening the door, then setting the ring and turntable on the grooves inside the microwave. I like the way they’ve set up the door to open. There is a little latch at the top of the handle that you have to press in order for the door to open. This is nice to have. For one thing it prevents kids from yanking open the door easily and placing things in it. It also allows you to grip the microwave before opening the door and it diverts your energy so you don’t pull open the door with a lot of force and then find it slipping off the countertop and onto the floor. The inside of the microwave is your standard white. I’ve seen newer microwaves where the interior is gray and mimics the inside of a stove. Nothing fancy here, just basic, entry level white. There are several little holes, as many microwaves have, lining the top of the walls but this seems like many more than usual. This type of configuration isn’t not may favorite because they’re a bit harder to keep clean especially when you heat up things that splatter and you forget to put a top over it. Even with this being a entry grade microwave, there are several things I like about it. The handle, which I mentioned earlier, has an easy to push lever to open the door as opposed to jerking open the door which could easily cause the microwave to slip off the counter. I appreciate that whoever designed this made it easy set the clock. Some microwaves require an advanced degree to figure out how to set it. This is especially helpful after a power outage when you have to reset it. There is a simple button on the touchpad that says clock, push it, punch in the time, then push it again. Easy peasy. There are fast start buttons. The 1-6 buttons correspond to the number of minutes the microwave will cook once you push them. If you’ve ever had a microwave that didn’t have these quick start buttons you certainly appreciate them when they are standard features. There is a function that allows you to program in frequently used settings so you don’t have to fumble with the keypad. For instance, if you usually use your microwave to thaw meat and you know you want it use 40% power for 6 minutes and 22 seconds, you can program a key for those exact instructions. There are 3 keys that are programmable. There are the usual pre-programmed options for things like popcorn, potatoes, frozen veggies, weighted defrost, timed defrost, entrée and such. Just about every one of these buttons has three different lengths of time associated with them already programmed. For instance, pushing the popcorn button multiple times will run through the options to cook different sized bags of popcorn. The beverage button runs through the option related to how many cups the beverage is you’re heating up. Again, these are standard buttons but they are very convenient to have. The thing that I would change? I guess due to its size they could only pack 900 watts into this microwave. I’m guessing it’s a size thing, but more like it might be a cost thing. Upping the wattage may have priced this model out of the audience it was aiming for. Many microwave ready items indicate that they have to be cooked with a minimum of 1000 watts or if less than 1000 watts then it requires longer cooking time. It is a nice to have, not a need to have feature. Last mention is the bell. It is loud but there is an option to mute it. And just like all the other functions on this microwave, it is easy to do. With all that being said, it really comes down to one question. Would I recommend this to someone who needed to purchase a microwave. My answer is yes for someone that needed a small, slightly below average wattage unit. I think it’s great for kids away at school, small apartments, or a second microwave in your home.

It’s a microwave
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a microwave for my outdoor kitchen. I’ve never understood most of the functions on a microwave, so I wasn’t looking for a ton of bells and whistles. I just wanted something that would make food hot outside, wouldn’t break the bank, and didn’t look like a plastic toy. The stainless finish on this unit looks to be approximately the same as my (very expensive) Frigidaire microwave, so there was no “cheap microwave” feeling, despite the price being much lower than equivalent units by more popular brands. The mechanisms and buttons feel the same as every other microwave I’ve tried. In all honesty, I’ve owned expensive and cheap microwaves, and I’ve never been able to tell the difference between any of them. I understand bigger units make my food hotter more quickly, but per pound, I believe all microwaves are approximately the same. I can surely recommend this microwave. I keep it outside in a deck box and pop it on top of my outdoor kitchen counter when we’re cooking outside. It doesn’t get exposed directly to any elements but it has held up for a month of summer in and out of the deck box, brutal heat, and even a light sprinkle when we left it out overnight one night.

A lot of punch in a small package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needing a microwave for my bar area, this little unit fits the bill. Don't be fooled by its compact size, this unit packs a pretty good punch. It just so happened that the first night we were having a movie night and needed popcorn. Put the bag in and in about 2.5 minutes we had a fully popped bag of popcorn. So far I have used it primarily for snacks and heating up drinks. It has performed exceptionally. It has some of the features of much bigger microwaves including quick buttons for popcorn, beverages, and even frozen vegetables. The display panel is easy to read and the clock/timer display is as well. A unique feature on the door is the trigger release to open the door. Overall operation is fairly quiet even with the turntable running. Style wise, this microwave would work just about anywhere especially where space might be at a premium. I may end up putting one of these in my workshop to save me trips into the house. Overall, it is good looking and operates better than I would have expected from a compact microwave.

Solid Little Microwave at a Fair Price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Life has me split between two locations for a while and most likely will for a bit longer. When I am at my secondary location I have limited space and limited access to things like a microwave. So I really wanted to find a smaller basic microwave for my room. This Insignia countertop model has filled my needs and is a decent appliance overall. It is on the smaller side but still has a fairly strong 900w power rating. The turntable works well and the display is easy to read. The door is a bit odd as you have to push up on the door trigger to open it. Took me a few uses to get used to but now it feels natural. It’s a little harder to see what is going on inside than most microwaves I have used. Not sure if it’s a dimmer light or a more opaque door than I’m used to. Like most microwaves the presets are kind of their own thing. Meaning you need to get used to each one and see if they work for you. The popcorn setting worked well, always the first thing I test! If you skip hitting the Time Cook button you can just hit the 1-6 buttons for a 1-6 min timed quick start. Overall this is a small affordable microwave. The construction and durability of the moving parts seem ok. It looks nice enough and it is fairly easy to clean. If you are looking for a solid but basic and affordable microwave I think this is a good option. If I knew someone looking for a Microwave in this price range, I would recommend it to a friend.

Very good for the money
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In terms of features, this microwave is equipped with all the necessary functions. The control panel will be immediately familiar to anyone who has used a microwave in the past twenty years. The microwave works well and is even much more quiet than you think it would be. Size is more than sufficient; this is only a .9 cu. ft. model, so you won't be able to stuff quite everything inside, but it's considerably roomier than .7 cu. ft. countertop models. What was really surprising was how much faster this was compared to a 700 watt model. The Insignia model is 900 watt, which I didn't think would make a missive difference, but cook time and performance is more like that of an 1100 watt model. It's far more efficient and quick than a 700 watt .7 cu. ft. countertop. The size is pretty decent, too, and small enough to fit comfortably on top of even small spaces on your kitchen counter. I have mine nestled below pre-built, narrow cabinets to the left of my stove. My only complaint is that there is no back-lighting on the control panel. Make sure to place this in a well-lit environment. This microwave is perhaps too big for a student dorm (or too power hungry), but an excellent choice for a townhome or apartment. Good size, traditional controls and operation, and great cook times. It just works well as a microwave.

Works Fine as expected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using it for about 2 weeks, the power is not as intense as my previous microwave, but i already knew that because we have a similar appliance at work which has been there for years. It works well, the size is perfect for me.
I would recommend this to a friend
