Reception Depends on Positioning & Location

BACKGROUND: I currently own five HDTV’s throughout our 4-bedroom 3-floor home. Four of the TV’s are using U-verse cable boxes, three of those TV’s also have streaming devices, and one TV (in our finished attic) is using a somewhat similar thin indoor amplified antenna. My goal with this Insignia Ultra-Thin Indoor Amplified HDTV Antenna was to use on our 1st floor family room HDTV to augment our cable box, streaming stick, and Blu-Ray player. Being on the first floor, reception with these types of “ultra thin” antennas can be erratic with digital dropouts and/or frozen screens when I used similar antennas. INSTALLATION: Using any type of antenna with current HDTV’s require accessing the TV’s setup, selecting the “Antenna” or “Cable” option, and then preforming a SCAN. (For those reviews where users said this antenna did not work at all, I assume they may not have performed the above require step.) Once the HDTV completed it local channels scanning, it found 58 digital channels (zero analog channels – I don’t believe they exist anymore?). Depending on the antenna placement, I would scan more or less channels. What made a significant difference was positioning/rotating this antenna 90 degrees. Also, the higher up I had it position, then better the reception and the number of channels found. Note that of the 58 digital channels, some I chose to remove due to excessive digital noise or freezing up altogether due to what I assumed were weak signals. BOTTOM LINE: After a fairly quick installation process, both my wife and I are quite impressed with this Insignia branded amplified antenna. We are able to watch around 45+ local channel programming without dropouts or frozen screens. Of the four or five “thin” antennas I have purchased and tried in the past, this one actually works very well. Our foreseeable future goal is to “cut the cable”, and using this amplified antenna is a giant step in that direction. NIT PICS: Ok, I do wish it had a longer cable. My chosen placement is on our fireplace hearth hidden behind a large picture. And a longer cable would allow me to better hide the wiring. Not a big deal, I’ll just end up buying a thin extension cable. RATING: Using in our North Raleigh NC home, this “Insignia Amplified Ultra-Thin Indoor HDTV Antenna w/ 60 Mile Range” earned itself a solid 4-Star Rating. And if you can catch it when it’s on sale, then add another Star!

Picked up more channels but location is key

This Insignia Amplified antenna was easy to set up and I like the stand that it comes with. Of course, it also comes with push pins and adhesive stickers for mounting if that's your preference. The antenna is black on one side and white on the other, so you have an option of which best fits your taste. I prefer the black side, but don’t care for the white cord on the antenna. It would blend in better to me no matter which side is displayed if the cord itself was black and white instead of all white. You can't beat the unintrusive ultra-thin design, though, whether it's mounted or on the stand. I tried the antenna on 3 different TVs and even though it picked up more channels on all of them (61, 68, and 83 respectively), the number of channels that pixelated or lost signal was worse. I can’t say that the antenna is bad or doesn’t work because it did indeed pick up more channels. And just because it didn’t do well where I wanted it, doesn’t mean it won’t work for you since location is key. It's worth the cost if it works for you.

    Good low profile antenna

The Insignia ultra thin HDTV antenna is a great low profile option for anyone looking to watch the local networks in their area without subscribing to a streaming service or cable to service. The antenna includes a power inserter a USB power adapter a tabletop base double sided tape and fixing pins. The antenna advertises a 60 mile range but you must realize that your success rate on getting Chanels will depend on how clear of a path there is from the broadcast tower to the antenna. Having a built in amplifier helps boost the performance of the antenna. I appreciated that the antenna has a 10 ft cable because sometimes you will have to mount the antenna higher up in order to get. good signal. My success also varied in the same home as I barely got a few channels on my tv on the first floor however I got most of the channels available to me on the 2nd floor because there was less interference of the signal. Normally a roof mounted antenna will be the gold standard in OTA antenna's however it may be difficult for most of us to mount an antenna on the roof. I also like that one side of antenna is black and 1 side is white so it is easy to blend it into any room without is being an eye sore. If you are looking for an HDTV antenna then the Insignia ultra thin amplified indoor HDTV antenna is a great option at a good price. Your results may cary based on where you live however it is well worth a shot.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback about the Insignia™ Amplified Ultra-Thin Indoor HDTV Antenna. I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble receiving channels.

There are a few factors that can affect the performance of an indoor antenna, such as location, distance from broadcast towers, and obstructions like walls or furniture. Here are a few tips that might help improve your reception:

      1. Try moving the antenna to different locations, preferably near a window or higher up, as this can often help pick up more channels.
      2. Make sure to perform a channel scan on your TV after repositioning the antenna. This will help the TV identify all available channels in your area.
      3. Electronic devices and appliances can sometimes interfere with the signal. Try moving the antenna away from those devices.
      4. If your antenna has an amplifier, ensure it is plugged in and turned on for maximum signal enhancement.

If you continue to experience difficulties, please let us know, and we can assist you further or explore other options. BBY-ExBrand_Insignia

bought htis antenna last night, got it home, connected to tv,scanned channels and now have 39 channels! with another more expensive indoor antenna i only received 19 channels before it crapped out and i returned it. so far looks very promising. it picked up RF channel 6 which is georgia PBS that shows as channel 20. if it continues to do well during the daytime hours,i will be purchasing another one for my TV room on the other side of the house. so far i would recommend this antenna to all. it says 60 mile range but i didn't realistically expect that since a lot of things that can cause even an outdoor long range antenna to not pickup stations can affect the reception and signals start to drop after 60 to 70 miles because of the curve of the earth.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We're thrilled to hear that the antenna is performing well and has significantly increased the number of channels you receive. It's great to know that it even picked up RF channel 6, which is Georgia PBS. We appreciate your recommendation and are glad to hear that you are considering purchasing another one for your TV room. Your insights on the 60-mile range and reception challenges are valuable, and we're pleased that our product is meeting your expectations so far. Keith | Insignia Support BBY-ExBrand_Insignia

    Effective antenna with nice features

This Insignia HDTV antenna does a good job of pulling in signals from up to 30 miles away from my location. That's enough range to capture all the over-the-air digital channels in my metropolitan area plus a few outside of it. I've tried several different antennas and this Insignia model is the only one that has worked acceptable. All the others were returned since they couldn't pull in all my local stations, wither at all, or without requiring the antenna to be re-oriented depending on the channel I wanted to watch. This Insignia antenna works without having to fiddle around with it, once it is set up. I used a channel finder website that tells which direction station transmitters are located in relation to my house. Then set up the antenna to face the flat side of it in a compromise direction that would more or less be pointed at the transmitters. After that, have your TV run a channel scan ad see if all the stations are captured and if any are garbled. Then readjust the antenna orientation and perform another channel scan to see if the results are better. you may have to do this several times. A nice thing about this antenna is that it comes with a decent stand that holds the antenna securely. Other antennas I've tried lack this key feature and made orienting the antenna impossible. This one solves that problem. This antenna also comes with a USB power supply so everything you need is in the box. Overall this is a great addition to a HDTV that you can't or won't connect to a cable box or streaming device and it picks up broadcast channels very cleanly.
