Bought this as an open box discounted item and I assumed it was probably a driver issue. Sure enough on my win 7 could not install, searched insignia driver - matched it by picture, downloaded initial but took an additional longer wait to download hmmhmm.. anyways, after windows installed it with no problems.

    Useless.

"You only get what you pay for." This time with this piece of garbage I didn't even get that much! I'm a 27 year veteran of computers, been working with them professionally since DOS 3.3 and before that on Apples...so this is an expert's review. First, you should be told this much: NO DRIVERS ARE INCLUDED WITH THE DEVICE...no driver CD, no installation software is included...even though the BOX is deceptively sized like there is a CD in it, there is NONE. Second, know this: YOU CANNOT DOWNLOAD THE DRIVERS INDIVIDUALLY. All they have is a website to go to with an installation program and you must click and pray that it works once it starts. Which it didn't for me, ON TWO MACHINES: XP#SP3# and W7 #SP1#. It says on Broadcom's website you can use this chip with XP...NOPE. I called Insignia's technical support number for help, only to be treatead like an idiot. "Did you [follow the steps in the manual]?" Yes, I followed the steps. Howabout you act useful and tell me where to find the XP drivers? Broadcom, who makes the chip for this deal, says that they are available for XP. Their response? They walked me AGAIN through the steps in the installation guide WHICH DIDN'T WORK the first time--and didn't work the second time either. Not only is their product useless, their call in support are EVEN MORE USELESS. How hard can it be to set up a spot where the technically proficient can log in, download JUST THE DRIVER, install it, and then use the installation software to set up the rest...bluetooth stack, AD2P drivers, etc etc? When the guy finally realized he was clueless, he copped out and said, "Well, the documentation says you can't use it on XP." I could if you could tell me where to find the DRIVERS. OK, fine, so instead try it on my Windows 7: NOPE: FAIL. I plugged it in, it went looking on the internet for drivers: FAIL. Then I attempted to go to the website in the documentation, download the install, and run it...FAIL. Couldn't find the device, because the device couldn't find the drivers. Ok, so I called up Insignia tech support, got a different tech, who treated me like an idiot: "Did you follow the instructions in the pamphlet?" #Side note: How bad of an issue is this, where people cannot follow simple instructions, that they need to tread everyone who calls in like an idiot?# So the guy eventually admits that he his clueless, has no idea why it's not finding the drivers, has no idea where to find drivers for manual install, and finally suggests that maybe the device is faulty? His advice: "Take it back and exchange it." This is good advice...I'm going to exchange it for A DIFFERENT BRAND THAT MIGHT WORK. But that won't happen until after Christmas, because this week the stores are MURDER. #That's why I picked it up a week EARLY...so much for that stragegy.# Take my advice - AVOID THIS GARBAGE PRODUCT.

Works okay but long driver download

This bluetooth adapter works as advertised. I was able to connect a bluetooth keyboard to my laptop without issue once the Broadcom driver was installed in my Windows 8.1 PC. That being said the instructions tell the user to download the drivers off the web. At just under 5MB I believed this was pretty small. Sadly I was right and once installed the download is merely a launcher to connect to another download server and wait and wait and wait for over 200MB of data to be received before the drivers finally installed. Once up and running I haven't had any problems with this adapter but I only use it to connect a wireless keyboard. Other than the long driver download I would have awarded five stars.

Bought it, plugged it in, and paired it to my wireless headphones within 5 minutes. Being the least expensive adapter of its kind is just icing on the cake.

This product came out of the box not working. I went online to install the software needed, and when I downloaded it the program kept on failing to download. I contacted geek squad and they said it was the product so I took it to the store and replaced, only to find it did the same exact thing. After spending hours once again on the chat I was told that it was now both the adapter and my computer. This was all just to get bluetooth working...

It appears this adapter cannot connect with the Sony Model MDR-ZX770BT headphones. Which pair on bluetooth just fne with my apple iPhone. The installer software gets to the point it of validating the bluetooth device and fails with not able to download the software.

I have OpenELEC / Kodi running on a Raspberry Pi 2. I bought this to enable the bluetooth feature built into OpenELEC. This USB adapter works great! It found drivers automatically and worked right out of the package. I have it linked to a Sony brand PS3 Blu-Ray remote.

Does Not Work Properly Under Windows 8

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Even though it states on the packaging, this product is validated for Windows 8, about half the components of the device do not have supported drivers under Windows 8 and as a result, some devices do not work properly. Works fine and all drivers load under Windows 7. If you're looking to use this under Windows 8, don't. Buy a different product. One that the company decided to write applicable drivers for the entire device, not half of it so it's half working.

Used these to connect Bose QC35 headphones to my PC. Didn't have any trouble as it is plug and play on Win10 and the headphones synced easily. Does exactly what I needed to do.

My laptop didn't have bluetooth and with this little device I was able to get bluetooth and was able to connect by bluetooth headphones! There is a file you have to download before the product could work, but it's pretty simple.

    doesn't work

just purchased this item. software won't install. i googled it and there are a lot of people with this same problem. i tried several recommended fixes but none work. install gets to 90% and i get an error. can't sync if i can't install the driver and software. Shouldn't be this difficult. Tried manufacturer website, nothing about incapatibility but google the issue and you'll see several posts with this problem. Might work for some but doesn't work for others. you're taking a chance if you buy this product. IMO, it's not worth the headache.

Problems right from the start. Installation issues prompted a call to support, which proved to be fruitless. I knew more about what was going on than he did. After reinstalling the software and driver, the unit failed in the middle of a file transfer and did this more than once. Audio functionality was nonexistent and support said they could not help. I returned it for a refund. I was installing it on a Dell desktop tower running 64bit Windows 7.1.

    waste of time

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased Insignia USB BT adapter for my new laptop with Windows 8.1. Going on line to load software is a waste of time, considering I had plugged in my old printer and Windows automatically found driver on line. I followed the instructions anyway, and when done, BT could not find my speaker bar. Tried to trouble shoot, but that's hard without the referenced "user manual" that apparently does not exist. Uninstalled and reinstalled, but still no luck. Again went to website, and found this: "Please note that Broadcom supplies chipsets to equipment manufacturers and cannot provide comprehensive support for our customers' products". So not only is there no user manual, there is no tech support either? After about 3 hours of messing with this $21 item, I was getting ready to return it to Best Buy, but for some reason my last-ditch effort was to turn off my speaker and turn it back on. It's a MIRACLE: dialog boxes started popping up, and the BT started working!! Seems to work fine, but now I'm afraid to turn anything off. Best Buy would do its customers a favor by not selling unsupported junk like this.

Does not pair with smart phones

Plugged in the adapter into my Windows 7 laptop. Downloaded and successfully installed software. A bubble popped up saying the device is turned on but not discoverable. So I clicked on the bluetooth icon, clicked on Update Settings. Nothing happened. Placed my Android phone and iPhone near by in a discoverable mode. Clicked on "Add a Device". The adapter could not find either of my phones. Called their toll free support. I was told "this adapter does not work with smart phones". I almost fell off my chair. This is the first "bluetooth" device I know that cannot pair with an Android phone. There is no such disclosure on the store product page. RETURNING....
