This Insignia Computer Desk is right at home for a budget minded person, college student, or someone looking to quickly turn a spare bedroom into a productive space. This computer desk is not for someone with champagne taste, an elaborate home office, or a place of business. Overall, this is an inexpensive desk. It is made of inexpensive materials, it feels inexpensive, and its construction is simple. But with this price point, it will give you your monies worth. Assembling this desk is fairly simple. The only real tool you will need is a screwdriver. Most of the panels and hardware are labeled and the instructions are fairly straight forward, however I did find a couple directional panels reversed from what they should have been in the directions and one of the medal legs did not have the hold completely drilled out and had to be fixed. But still minor inconveniences that were easy to remedy. If you can put together a puzzle, you can put this desk together. Once together, the desk is fairly sturdy. I probably wouldn't try and use it as a step stool or a chair, but it will hold your printer and computer. The surface scratches VERY easily. And the drawer slides are clunky. But the desk is very functional. My favorite feature of this desk is a small area on the backside of the desk that is PERFECT for placing a power strip out of side to connect all of your electronics to, making wire management a breeze! whoever though of this cubby style area deserves a raise. However if you really want to make this desk perform its best, go to your hardware store and replace the drawer slides. They come as ball bearing slides, but they are definitely the shortfall. Overall, this is an inexpensive desk that will serve its purpose. If you are going to school, living in a small apartment, or just need a small work area, this may be your desk. If you are looking for something on the nicer side, I would probably look elsewhere.

    Great looking modern desk

I really liked this Insignia computer desk. It has a nice modern design that would fit in with a lot of decor types, and the wood color is especially attractive. There is assembly required alas, but if you've put other similar furniture together it's not too bad, although the bag of screws and fasteners seemed a little intimidating at first. It uses cam locks which are really pretty easy to deal with, and a hex wrench and a Phillips screwdriver will do the vast majority of the work--a hammer and drill are needed for securing to the wall for anti-tipping. I didn't keep track of the time too well, but it took me a little over an hour. Be prepared for the size of the box if transporting--it's pretty big and while it supposedly only weighs a bit over 50 pounds, it's hefty. I assembled this upstairs in my house and unboxed everything downstairs and carried each piece up--a couple of the pieces (the main desktop for example) are pretty large. Overall, this is a nice piece of furniture for what it is. Its metal and wood aesthetic looks really good, it feels solid (and it's slightly adjustable so you can get it level), and it can hold up to 80 pounds, which ought to be more than adequate for the vast majority of users (unless you're somehow holding onto an old giant CRT monitor perhaps!). And I think there's enough storage, between the drawer and the two adjacent open spaces, to satisfy most people.

Best Buy is taking advantage of the new home office normal with this new desk from Insignia, a Best Buy brand. This desk promises a modern gray wood style with useful storage and cubbies in a compact 47” x 20” space, with a low price point. The desk is packed in the typical flat pack box and requires assembly. One corner of the desk top had a small dent, so be sure to inspect the parts carefully for damage that may warrant a return if that is important to you. In this case, I didn’t notice it until some assembly was under way and it wasn’t enough damage for me to go through the process of an exchange, so I just went with it. For a challenge, I did the entire assembly with just one person, to see if it could be done. Using the included tools and a screwdriver it took me about 2 hours with no help to complete, going carefully as to avoid damage and ensure everything was tight. There quite a lot of parts, but they are neatly packaged and the instructions have both illustrations and words to explain the process, unlike some build it yourself brands. The desk is largely assembled upside down and at a final stage is flipped over before the drawer is installed, that was the hardest part for just one person to accomplish. Outside of the small corner dent, I did have a little trouble with one of the feet not screwing in properly that required pilers to get it fully set. Once assembled, the desk is very classy for the price point. I really like the storage, it has helped me clean up my work from home desk space quite a lot. There is also about 5” of inset in the back, which was perfect for hiding a power strip and all of the cords associated with a desk. Curiously, while there is an indent along the back of the desk top for cords to come up, there is no matching indent or pass through on the bottom to get a cord up into that area. In my case, with baseboards, the desk sat far enough off from the wall to get the power strip cord up behind it without needing a pass though. Holes in the back of the two cubbies would have been useful too to get cords in to charge things – but these can be easily added on your own if desired. The drawer is a nice touch and while not soft close, grips in a bit when closed to keep it from drifting open. Overall, this is a very functional desk that looks better than the price point would indicate. If you are looking for new work from home desk, a dorm, or a homework space, this would be a great option to consider.

Do Not Buy Insignia Furniture from Best Buy

Do Not buy Insignia Furniture from Best Buy. They do not have parts available and therefore you can only return the whole item if a part is missing. I have been a long time BB customer and spent thousands of dollars but this is the first time buying furniture. I spread out the parts but missed that the drawer bottom was not there. Building the drawer is the last step in the process, so that is when I noticed it missing. After three hours of holds and speaking with representatives of Insignia and Best Buy over a two day period, I did not receive a satisfactory answer other than turn in the old desk and order a new one. This has to be shipped, so BB is actually paying for shipping a $109 desk three times. I spent two hours building this desk and now I will have to disassemble it or take the built one to the store? None of this makes sense. I am at the point now where I am going to spend my own money to finish it. I have tried to call the store but it is impossible to get them. I think the desk would be a decent one but this frustration is not worth it. I get better service from Amazon and that is sad to say since Best Buy is local to me.

    Draw sucks

The desk looks nice. We put it together, but even with silicone spray, the empty drawer does not like to open and close well. Now if I want to put some thing in it, it’s going to be even worse. Which means the drawer is pretty much useless unless of course the manufacturer has better tracks (?) , but this is horrible & i’m disappointed because we already put the thing together. Desktop serves purpose - but desk is useless
