Radio only worked for a month before breaking

Radio worked ok, though without much range for local radio stations. Played music alright, though had lot of static at moderate volume. After working of for a month, radio broke. Mysteriously started to shut itself off after a few seconds to 2-3 minutes. Flashed "1888" on clock, and shut off radio every time. Amount of time it stayed on depended on volume level.
