5 stars for the remote alone
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a professionally installed antenna on my roof. I have a home theater system with surround sound and can't get this to work properly without a box like this with antenna in/out with HDMI for sound into my Sony receiver. I tried two other converter boxes that had decent menus and worked ok, but both had MAJOR flaws. Their remotes hardly worked and I had to practically be a foot away with both. Very frustrating and I survived 2 years until I finally found this one. The remote works great and is a godsend! THANK GOD! I hope it lasts - it seems to run nice and cool thus far. Very happy!

Worked surprisingly well...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasn't expecting much considering I connected to a 70" UHD TV. But the picture quality on the local HD channels my antenna picked up are as clear and sharp as they are through the Spectrum HD cable box. Set up was very simple, never opened the instructions. Just connected my antenna coax cable to the in and connected to the TV via the HDMI out. Turned it on, followed the instructions on the screen and was watching TV in minutes. Only took a few minutes to scan and find 30+ channels.

It works -
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy set up, pulls in strong local stations, not sure about actual signal quality vs reception. with signal level showing 90-100%, there seem to be far too many times when the product loses reception. Does not seem to be much buffering of signal like some streaming devices provide. Not overly impressed compared to units at 1/2 the price that i have seen. Purchased with an RCA amplified indoor antenna. Adjusted antenna to get close to 100% on all channels. Still drops out far too often. It does provide what i was looking for, and does provide a good clean video when working. Ability to scale video is a nice feature and works well.

It Works Excellent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My TV set is an analog type, Magnavox 20MS3442/17 that I bought about 2005. The antenna that I bought to work with this setup is a RCA Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna with an advertised range of 45 miles. I live in Chicago in the neighborhood of Old Irving Park on the third floor of a 4 story 50 unit apartment building. I receive very clear reception of 63 stations. About 5 stations required a slight adjustment of the antenna. The instructions specify 3 types of connections that can be made from the convertor to the TV; HDMI cable (this will provide the best video and audio quality). AV cables (this provides better video and audio quality), and RF coax cable (this provides good video and audio quality). I am connected with a RF coax and I am getting excellent video and audio quality. To increase the volume I must use both my original Magnavox remote and the remote supplied by Insignia. I found the startup instructions to be fairly simple. I myself have 3 years of technical training and 30 years of technical work experience, but I do not see anything in the setup procedure that would confuse anybody. It took me less than 5 minutes.

Disappointed.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased in store based on reviews. I would not recommend for your primary TV. The pros are that the clarity is very good with a cable connection and it finds a lot of channels. The cons far outweigh the pros. First off it is a European unit. The time is on a 24 hour clock (16:34 24 Jul). The audio is horrible. It constantly goes out of sync-sometimes on all channels. The only way to correct is to turn the unit off and back on. And sometimes there is no audio when you turn on. And the guide also goes out of sync. Most of the time it reads "No description available" and sometimes it will show a program that is on a different channel. There is no customization. For example you cannot correct the clock setting to a 12 hour clock; there is no way to delete/remove unwanted/unavailable channels. These issues all started out of the box. The original 10 year old converter that this replaced was more advanced. I would accept these limitations if this unit cost in the $20-$30 range. Due to Best Buy's restrictive return policy I will not be returning or exchanging because there isn't another option available.

Works Fine With My DVD Recorder
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for my DVD and VHS recorder, which needed this as a tuner and it works fine. It also has programming for what is playing on the channels available which is an added bonus.

Horrible equipment. Don't buy this!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had my box for little over a year. The remote failed and even after troubleshooting with Insignia, they could not get it to work again. They sent me a complimentary remote and it stopped working too. Now mind you when both remotes failed, I wasn't even touching them. They were sitting on a flat surface. I contacted the company again and all they said was to buy a replacement. What? When they can't even get the others working. Do not buy this, it is literally a piece of junk.

Posted .Hi Keekee,
The feedback that you provided is very much appreciated, I can assure you that this converter box is top of the line. If it is not working then most likely there is an internal issue with your product. I would recommend that you contact us as soon as possible.

Incompatible with my home theater console
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I connect the converter box to my Bose Cinemate 120 home theater console, two things happen: 1. Only the audio signal changes and not the video. For instance, if I'm watching Netflix off the TV input and I switch over to the CBL-STL input where I connected the converter box, the TV will continue displaying the Netflix video stream but the audio will change to that of the converter box. 2. CEC stops working. CEC allows HDMI devices to be controlled with only one remote control. When I'd hit the Power button on my Cinemate's remote, the console would power on but not the TV. If I'd use the TV remote to power it on, the Cinemate wouldn't come on. As soon as I unplugged the HDMI input to the Cinemate from the converter box, the two issues mentioned above were resolved. I tried the following troubleshooting steps to rule out any other possible cause and came to the conclusion that it's the converter box screwing things up, so I'm returning it: 1. Power cycled all devices. 2. Tried different HDMI cables with the converter box. 3. Confirmed CEC is enabled on the Cinemate and the TV. 4. Confirmed audio settings on TV were correct for ARC use. 5. Factory reset the Cinemate 120. THE LAST STRAW (and the weirdest occurrence): I completely bypassed the Cinemate 120 by connecting the converter box directly to an HDMI port on my TV--it STILL screwed up input switching and CEC on my home theater console.
