DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY BEST BUY EMPLOYEE IF THEY TELL YOU OTHERWISE. Cant tell you how much time and money i wasted listening to best buy - oh buy the extension cable instead - try this - nothing. Leave it to amazon and reddit to get you the answer. If you have an HDMI Output (computer) going to Display Port input (monitor) you need a cable that also has additional power (i.e., a USB connection as well) otherwise it doesn't work. Best buy continuously emails me asking for a review...so here it is..

However, I understand your situation and I want you to know that you can take advantage of the 15 day return period that Best Buy grants you for this product directly at the Customer Service counter at your nearest store with your receipt in hand.

I set the macBook up near TV, hooked the adapter to an HDMI cable, hooked up a bluetooth keyboard, and turned it on. Works great!!! From the couch you can basically see a high def 50" display!!!

I picked this up at my local store. It's a little pricey at $25 but I'm sure they can be had cheaper during one of the many sales that Best Buy offers from time to time.
