This is one of those things. After a cable I purchased online stopped working (when does that ever happen?) I ran into Best Buy to grab an equivalent cable or an adapter that would allow me to plug my monitor into my laptop. They had both, but I opted for the adapter based on cost alone. I was back up and running right away!
