Great as a cheap tablet - Terrible for development

I needed an inexpensive Android device that would be a decent personal tablet and a device to use for development. I initially looked at the DigiLand 7" but didn't care for the resolution or that it came with Android 4.4. Since I was footing the bill myself I liked the Flex 8 for the better resolution and having Android 5.0 preinstalled. As a cheap tablet for personal use this would have been a great tablet but when I got it home I discovered that ADB would not recognize it because Insignia does not provide the necessary USB drivers for development. In fact, when asked about it Insignia's own community managers seem baffled as to why someone would be asking for such a driver. After many attempts to force a driver to work I gave up and returned it and got the Lenovo TAB 2 A8-50 instead which does have easy to install drivers available for development. As a good cheap tablet I would recommend this one, but for development purposes its better to stick to some more recognizable brands that better support developers.

When the time came to give it to her it didn't work. Would not turn on and wouldn't accept a charge. By that time is was too late to return it via shipping. The representative I spoke with on the phone suggested I try and return it to a store. The salesclerk at the Best Buy in Las Cruces, NM gladly accepted the return however a substitution was necessary as this particular tablet was not in stock. The replacement tablet has functioned perfectly but the extra cost and travel time, we live more than an hour away, required for the exchange negated the original low price.
