I ended purchasing this for my son. After 8 days of use he was no longer able to charge the battery. I returned it to the store for an exchange for the same device. After about 8 days of use, my son had the same issue. It turns out that is relatively easy to end up with a recessed USB charging port but plugging the device in normally. This was confirmed by an associate upon returning the second device. Ended up paying more for a Samsung tablet.

Fantastic screen. About 5 hours of battery life. Occasion slowdowns but gets the job done for a entry tablet. Great aluminum feel as well. Looks like an iPad mini

If I use right after charging it's fine for a few hours so for commuting or using on airplane or around the office it's fine. I wish it offered an ultra-power-saving mode (black/white screen etc) like the competitors do, for the rare case when I'm stuck in airport for a long time. The Netflix app for some reason does not work at all after the main menu, it just says, "Loading" when you try to play any title (works fine on my other devices.) I have the latest O/S as of this writing and the most updated Netflix app. This is the sort of thing that we hope the developers at Insignia will fix with a software update in the near future, we'll see. If I shut it down (instead of sleep) it takes longer than my Macbook air to boot up. If you most often 'sleep' and not power-off completely this is not any issue, but it consumes battery in 'sleep' mode. OVERALL YES I DO LIKE IT - It is very snappy fast CPU touch screen and response, faster than my phone and pictures come out great. I have added a 32GB memory card and it is working fine. The 7.8 inch screen size is perfect for me - Kindle reading or language learning I use Busuu app, not too small to read and it is the right size to use while commuting on a bus. Very bright and can be viewed from any angle. I reduce brightness to save battery or use the auto-brightness setting. I use a Logitech bluetooth headphone set H800 and it works fine for me! I installed: Evernote, Busuu language learning, Kindle, Mint, AngryBirds, Minions games, they all work fine! While I like it overall, Netflix not working is a huge blocker I won't recommend this to a friend, unless a patch comes out to fix it. I consider NetFlix to be a core app.

This is a great deal for under $100

I bought this tablet during a flash sale back in December for $89. I decided to buy it after seeing the price and specs in an email sent to me by Best Buy. The 2048 x 1536 resolution is right up there with iPad's and Samsung screens. I wanted a tablet for reading eBooks and wanted more functionality than a dedicated e-reader such as a Paper White. The screen resolution combined with the 7.85" screen gives a pixels per inch of over 350! This ensures that the text is super crisp. Most tablets under $200 have a resolution of 1280 x 800 which provides about 180-ish. many of the newer galaxy tabs have resolutions of 1024 x 768! On a 2016 tablet! Terrible for the prices they charge (not just Best Buy, all retailers). I had been using a Galaxy Tab 4 8" but the ppi was too low and the text appeared so jagged that I ended buying this tablet to replace it as my main e Reader. The tablet is light which makes it easier to hold for longer periods of time than most tablets and e Readers. The housing is made of aluminum and is attractive and has a nice tactile feel. It comes with a SD card slot which can handle up to 64GB of extra storage. Why Apple lovers put up with not having expandable storage is beyond me. You can get an iPad with larger amounts of storage, but you overpay for what you get. A fast 64GB SD card can be had for under $40. There are two speakers in the back side of the tablet. They sound tinny, much like a cheap transistor radio back in the day (sorry young people, a radio is a...google it). You can listen to audio books but forget music. I use a blue tooth speaker for 99% of all my listening needs, so not a big deal for me. It has the usual earphone plug. I have read some people have had trouble with the earphone jack, not me. The battery life is poor, about 4-5 hours of watching movies or 6+ hours of reading. For me, not a big deal. I have an Asus Zenpad S 8" and a Samsung Galaxy Tab S for movie watching. I do not read for more than hour at one sitting, so again, for me, battery life is not a big deal. Game players, you will want to stay plugged into a power source. It charges fast so I just plug it to a charger when not reading. This tablet plays movies with no lag time whatsoever. Again, not my main reason for buying this, but the clarity is noticeably better than lesser resolution screens. Unless you are watching the same movie right beside and AMOLED or retina display screen, you will not notice anything lacking in this tablets display. The colors are not as vibrant, but you will not notice or care if you are watching a movie. While surfing the web, it is fast. Pages load quickly. I recommend that you buy this tablet as a back-up or a main e-reader. It so inexpensive enough to give to the kids and not worry about them breaking a $400+ tablet. It will do what you want for a lot less money!

Great display, bad battery and no Netflix

I purchased this tablet after comparing similar priced ranged tablets. I need it primarily to read PDF manuals while traveling, but also would like to play a few games and watch movies. The display is AMAZING for the price point. It has a retina display equivalent that is similar to an Ipad. The battery, as other reviews have stated lasts only a few hours at best. I can plug it in easily when staying in hotels, but if you do not have that luxury, then this is not for you or you will need an external charger to recharge on the go. Some reports say that the update server does not work, that has been resolved. There are no updates at this time. Hulu works great. YouTube had a severe syncing issue with video and audio. I went into developer mode and disabled the beta media player and it seems to have fixed that issue. One major issue that may be for many, is this tablet cannot play Netflix! Netflix says it is an Insignia issue, and I believe them. On the Insignia forums, Insignia has one reply to the numerous posts on this topic stating they are working on the fix and it should be out in a few weeks. This may be a deal breaker for many. If you do not need Netflix or it is not a priority like me, this tablet is seems fast in games, has a nice speaker, and the display is AWESOME. That battery though....ouch. If they resolve the Netflix issue I will bump this to 4 stars.

Excellent quality build, decent specs, > 1080p

I was hesitant to purchase this product, as it seems to be getting terrible reviews from users. My experience couldn't be possibly more different from what they're reporting. This tablet has a 1.8 Ghz quad core processor, and it shows. N64 emulation is smooth, and highly playable. Paired with a MOGA controller, it's quite a good experience. Stranger's Wrath, a pretty demanding android game, runs at a very playable frame rate with the resolution setting maxed. Streaming video has never been a problem with it either; no lag, nothing. The case has a very expensive look to it, which is a big contrast to every other value tablet out there. With 2 GB of RAM, I'm able to multitask without even a bit of slowdown. And that screen. Oh, oh that screen. Better than 1080p at only 7.85 inches; it is stunning, vivid, crisp, and gorgeous. Here's the only downside I've found in my ownership of this item: every thirty minutes or so, the tablet "skips" No matter what you're doing, playing a game, watching a video, listening to music; it hangs for a split second, and repeats the same sound over and over again #whatever sound it was playing at the time#. It then proceeds to return to normal, and it lasts all of a second. It's really not that much of an inconvenience, and it's actually cracked me up a few times with the timing of the skip. "Remixixixixixixixixix!"d This is just a really good tablet, and unless you're shelling out more than twice as much, you're going to end up with an inferior screen even *if* you buy a Samsung.

    Decent price, but...

This tablet grossly underperforms when it comes to battery life. I tend to lose about 50% charge overnight while the tablet isn't being used. I know one shouldn't expect much from a lower-end tablet, but most devices I've gotten my hands on in this price range have at least been able to hold a charge for upwards of a day. Beyond that, the screen resolution and degree of processing speed were actually pleasant surprises given that the tablet is only $150. This is also the first Best Buy tablet I've tried that doesn't come with such an overwhelming amount of (unremovable) bloatware that half of the storage capacity was already filled right out of the box. I'd say this tablet would be a decent choice if your aim is to read, browse the web, and maybe do some light gaming. The catch, unfortunately, is that you'll likely need to charge the device 2-3 times per day.
