All the outlets i encountered were rounded, so the rectangle design could not be plugged into the outlets that was used for the higher voltage devices. Subsequently I also fried a brand new desktop fan we had brought using the smaller adapter. I encountered this in Germany and Czech Republic. The Hotel in Paris had the standard US plugs in their hotel rooms.
