It is as thick as a another neoprene sleeve that I have. Not sure of its shock absorbancy. The secondary pocket is being used to store usb thumb drives, ethernet and hdmi cables, mouse, and stylus. The internal diameters of the sleeve is about 15.4" wide by 10.8" high.

I carry my iPad and windows tablet simultaneously with plenty of room for accessories. If you didn't purchase one when they were available you missed out!
